My mum has been at Avonbourne for four years and I visit her regularly and at different times. I am very happy with the care and commitment provided by the excellent staff. They are always kind, caring and more than happy to help. The facilities and layout of the home are also very good. She feels
safe and is very happy. The entertainment provided is very good and extremely varied. The entertainment provided is very good and extremely varied. The entertainment staff are also fantastic. My mum is able to enjoy her love of dancing and musk on a regular basis. I would have no hesitation in recommending Avonbourne as it gives me peace of mind, knowing my mum is happy and well looked after when I can't be there. Although my mum has dementia, she leads a happy, safe and fulfilled life and this thanks to the excellent staff and facilities at Avonbourne.

My uncle appears to be happy where he is. The staff appear to be very helpful and try to answer any questions posed. The present manager is very elusive, seen once in the past six months and appeared to be very aloof, unlike the previous temporary manager who made himself available and ready to
listen and advise. Value for money!! £6,500 a month, no!

My wife has been a resident of Bourne House for over a year now with Alzheimer's and is now receiving end of life dementia care.
The Carers, Nurses and Manager are wonderful and I am grateful for the care they are taking to looking after my wife. When I arrive I am always greeted with a smile by
all of the staff and I know that she is being well looked after.
Also I am always reassured by them that every need is taken care of to ensure that she is comfortable.

My mother was a resident for 13 months, on Harnham ward. She wasn't the easiest of people to care for, but Philipia and her team looked after her with care and compassion. All the staff from reception, through to the kitchen went out of their way to accomodate all of her requests, including soup
for breakfast. Her end of life care was excellent allowing her to pass with dignity and pain free.

We had to move Mum into Avonbourne after a sudden decline in health. Because of the speed of entry there were a few teething problems which took a few days to resolve. We were able choose Mum a room which was light, bright and spacious with a very nice en suite wet room.
We visited every day for
several hours and saw first hand how kind and caring the staff were, from the Nurses, down to the man who brought the clean washing back. There were occasions when the staff were incredibly stretched due to staff shortages but they always had a smile.
Avonbourne knew from the start that Mum had a terminal illness and would need end of life care. We were assured this could be accommodated, which it was, but we found the delays between the Dr prescribing to the arrival of drugs too long. Not the fault of the staff but the system.
The care and compassion of the staff during Mums final days was outstanding.Thank you.
Someone asked me would I use Avonbourne again, and I think the answer is yes.

All staff are very caring and knowledgeable. They look after my mother-in-law and understand her. At present, she is losing when it is day and night so is spending all day in bed and then getting up in the night. She needs to get out of bed in the morning, perhaps we need a meeting.

We are hugely grateful to the manager and his team at Avon Court for their kindness, compassion and unfailing good humour. Our mother moved into Avon Court on very short notice following a very distressing experience at another care home and the team couldn't have been more understanding and
accommodating. They had no problem at all with her nighttime wandering, understanding it as a symptom of her advancing Alzheimer's and meeting her with care and interest as an individual. We were always made to feel welcome when we visited and kept regularly updated. Very sadly our mother died after a short illness at the end of December and again we have met with great kindness and lovely anecdotes that showed how well the manager and others had got to know her even in the short time she was a resident. It's not the fanciest of care homes in terms of decor but the rooms are spacious, comfortable and well-furnished, there is a fantastic programme of activities and most importantly, the staff really care.

After initial hesitancy, my cousin is extremely happy and joining in all the activities she is capable of doing, especially when the animals come to visit. She gets on well with the staff which is essential as she relies on them very much for her personal and nursing care. From our personal point of
view, it is often difficult to contact the care team by telephone and there seems to be a need for more staff.

There is a lack of care. My friend has dementia, sometimes shes clear in her mind other times shes not and she needs compassion and care to cope. However, yesterday one of the carers was very impatient and intolerant and my friend was feeling trapped and unhappy.
In a care home the food should be
one of the highlights of the day and should be presented tastefully, not cups of tea in big ugly mugs, etc.
Residents need a nice view from their windows, her view is reasonable but the window is very dirty.

Due to my father being partially sighted and his age (101) most things available for him were very restricted. He was very well treated by all the staff.

Absolutely terrible place, the staff just sit on their phones and don’t treat their elders with care at all! Not impressed. My grandmother has been there just about a month and she is already leaving to be in a nicer care home. The place is disgusting and isn’t cleaned properly.
