On arriving at the Cumberland Grange I felt warmth and friendship,it's an amazing care home, the best. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble, they go above and beyond. They always have time to talk to the residents and treat them with respect and as an individual. Giving them the dignity they all deserve. They have activities daily, morning and afternoon for those who wish to take part. The mini bus is also used weekly. If you are looking for a care home for a loved one,Cumberland Grange is definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. You too will be listened to and supported.
Our mother has been a resident at Barchester Cumberland Grange for a few months (this is her second stay) and I have to say that the whole set up is fabulous. The accommodation is 5 star, as is the setting, the food, the service and the daily cakes.!!!. With excellence normally measured at 5 stars, I have to say that the staff and management would score far higher in my view. They are all truly wonderful. The care they give, the welcome we receive, and the genuine patience and affection they share with everyone makes the Cumberland an outstanding residential home. You should all be incredibly proud of the environment that you have created...oh, and did I mention the cakes.!!!
Cumberland Grange is a really good care home. Many of the staff have been there for several years which I think points to a really good working environment that comes through on every visit in providing a professional but also very caring approach to the residents. The special care on memory lane for my Mum as recommended by the management team has made a real difference in the last few months with her dementia. We would recommend Cumberland Grange to anyone looking for residential care.
More of a 5 star hotel than a care home. Cannot commend ALL staff highly enough. They know all residents extremely well, communicate regularly with relatives and effectively create a family atmosphere. Mum certainly doesn't want for activities, trips or hot chocolate! This is the gold standard!
My sister and her partner visited several care homes in the Exeter area before settling on Cumberland Grange as the best available for my mother, and all subsequent experience has shown this to be an excellent decision. The home is a modern, purpose-built building with several spacious communal areas. It is kept warm throughout the year. The staff are, without exception, caring, friendly and cheerful. This includes seemingly small gestures which mean a lot - such as a friendly chat or a reassuring touch on the arm. The friendliness and kindness extends not only to residents, but also to their families. As my mother says, the staff aren't kind and helpful only when visitors are around: they are like that all the time. In my view, the Cumberland Grange management have got the culture spot-on. In my mother's words, if you need to be in a care home, you wouldn't find anywhere nicer than here.
After visiting many care homes for my Mother, we found Cumberland Grange, which stood out from the rest. Mum has been living there for 5 months now and I can't speak more highly of all the staff, who are so friendly and efficient and make Mum feel at home. She enjoys all the great daily activities and lovely food and all the different conversations with both the staff and other residents. After living in her home for over 60 years, it was never going to be an easy move, but Cumberland Grange staff have made the move so much easier. All staff are always at hand to help, listen and have a friendly chat which makes family member visits so lovely. The lounge areas are very welcoming and when visiting my Mum, it is lovely to sit out and enjoy a great coffee and the freshly made cake of the day which is always delicious.
Cumberland Grange is run by a hard working, pleasant and caring manager who is very hands on and assists the staff/residents if needed. The staff are all so kind, attentive & patient with the residents. The staff appear to be a family who come together and help one another in their individual roles and seem to have a nice friendship. The activities are stimulating & enjoyable as I experienced them myself. The entertainment staff are active & enthusiastic. The food is excellent and there are always snacks left out for residents to enjoy at their leisure. All in all the home is beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere to it. Unfortunately the cost of a stay is expensive.
My mum stayed at Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home for a week's respite, while I went into hospital for surgery. I had researched carefully to find a place that was caring, friendly and would meet her needs. My first contact with Cumberland Grange was great - the lady on the phone was very friendly and helpful and I arranged a visit. When I visited, I was very impressed with the facilities, how kind the staff were with the residents and how calm the atmosphere was. It was a very pleasant experience. Mum absolutely loved her stay there, she commented how lovely and kind everyone was and how she'd been very well looked after. She made a special comment about how great the food was and she was encouraged to join in the activities that were happening each day if she wanted to. When she returned home she was happy, mobilising much better than she had been previously and was full of praise for Cumberland Grange. So a huge thank you to everyone there for making Mum so welcome. You are all fantastic!
My father recently stayed at the Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home for a ten-day period of respite. The contact with the management team was totally professional and helpful throughout. My father has a complex medical condition, which required monitoring, and this was his first time away from his own home and family for respite care. The understanding of his condition was good, with all involved making sure he was relaxed in this new environment. All the staff who were involved in his care were fantastic, making sure he was included in as many activities as possible to enable him to enjoy his stay. The meals were varied and the quality excellent. The staff maintained good contact with us, reassuring me throughout his stay, that he was at the centre of their care. During his stay, I was able to witness him interacting with many of the other residents during the activities. I cannot fault the Cumberland Grange in any way and want to say a big thank you to all the staff, at all levels, for everything.
My relative has been at Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home for two years now. He is very settled and well cared for. The staff understand his changing needs and work well to meet them. All members of the team, including maintenance, administration, laundry, catering and management as well as the carers themselves, are welcoming, friendly, helpful and kind. They all know my relative well and understand his needs. They are always approachable and take time to listen to any concerns or updates and try to resolve any issues promptly. The staff support my relative to contact me by telephone if he requests this. They also take time to update me by telephone on any important matters. Activities are well-run and trips out occur weekly. Larger events occur throughout the year and are always well attended. The catering and entertainment are excellent and well received by residents and families alike. These events demonstrate the great teamwork shown by staff at Cumberland Grange.
I first visited Cumberland Grange a year ago when looking for a care home for my sister who suffers from Dementia. The initial visit was very encouraging. The staff were friendly and professional. The facility is well-designed and the personal rooms are large and bright as are the welcoming community areas. Extra facilities such as an on-site visiting hairdresser, dentist and optician are added bonuses. The staff are kind and caring. There are a wide variety of activities on offer and she can be as involved as she wants. The meals are delicious. As I live a long way away weekly phone calls with the staff and my sister are important. We have also provided my sister with a tablet to help keep in contact. I would definitely recommend visiting this care home to see if it will suit your needs.
My mum has come to Cumberland Grange to live! It is such a vibrant home. There are lots of activities to enjoy. She enjoys her time at the home and the trips out. All staff have training in dementia and it shows. The residents are treated with respect and dignity. Staff are caring, helpful and patient. They are genuinely interested in my mum's well-being. She is loved and is happy and settled.
After a few weeks of settling down, Mummy is really enjoying life at Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home. Lots of activities: singing, pub trips, flower arranging, entertainers and more, cerebral politics and pastries. Daily routines are flexed to her needs and the attention of the staff and management to her medical and care needs is great (local GP visits weekly). I visit (often with friends) and all have remarked on how "not" like a care home it looks and feels. There is a friendly and happy atmosphere in the cafe and sitting rooms; TVs and music and endless tea, coffee and cake as well as a cinema room which doubles for rugby, football and tennis on a giant screen. Individual rooms are spacious and tailored to accommodate personal pictures and furniture and all have comfy chairs and top-class TV. Dining is top-notch and the home has organised in-house dentists, opticians and hearing tests. All in all, it's a place to live: make new friends, have old friends to visit or just have quiet time.
Truly exceptional service from initial visit to respite care. The staff are so kind, patient and obviously enjoy working at Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home. I was able to leave my dad there knowing the excellent level of care he would receive. I am very grateful for the level of service, care, high quality of food, accommodation, entertainment and interest that the staff gave. Thank you!
My father stayed at a property for respite care and we could not fault the care and attention he was given. From the initial contact, the staff ensured they knew him and his needs. The welcome was warm and we felt safe in the knowledge he would be well cared for. Whilst it costs more than some, it has a smart hotel feel, which is what we needed for the time he was there.
Exceptional! Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home has surpassed my expectations and hopes of what a residential home can offer. In terms of the building, furniture, decor etc. it resembles a five-star hotel. The food is excellent, restaurant quality and the cakes are really delicious! The range of activities, both in the home and off-site, is excellent, including welcoming the local community for a dog parade to realise a resident's dream. When we first visited, we were really impressed by the warm, welcoming attitude of all the staff. This has continued in every encounter we've had. I'm in awe of the staff who are respectful of, warm and compassionate with the residents. They are also really welcoming of family and friends and dogs! My mother is not an easy character and it is difficult to put into words how supportive the staff at Cumberland Grange have been to my mother and to me. I feel like the weight of caring for her has been lifted from me.
Cumberland Grange is a new facility, well-designed with good space and decor. However, the best thing about Cumberland is the genuinely caring staff and the range of activities on offer. Staff appear to love their work, I have seen smiles, affection and gentle safe touch (holding hands with residents, gentle hugs, asking residents questions about their lives before Cumberland, etc). Activities are varied with gentle exercise, music, pets visiting and poetry. The activities are held in different spaces around the home including the memory lane area (for those residents diagnosed with dementia) so that the residents from different areas of the home connect with each other. Residents have input and are encouraged to suggest ideas for activities. Connections with the local community are also encouraged with a parent and baby group meeting onsite weekly.
The activities at Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home are outstanding. They are imaginative, creative, diverse and inclusive at every level. Also, there is a regular visit from an Anna Chaplain. This ministry thrives in the Exeter diocese and attends to the spiritual welfare of residents in care homes. Visitors and family members are welcome to take part in all activities with their loved ones. It is a warm and lively atmosphere in the home, expertly coordinated by the events leader.
My mother moved to Barchester Cumberland Grange Care Home ten months ago, her dementia meant life at home was becoming very challenging. We were all apprehensive about the move but all Mum's concerns had soon disappeared. She is on the residential floor at the moment but knowing that when the time comes to move to memory lane she will be known by the staff which will make the transition so much easier. The staff are amazing, so caring and cheerful, providing and accommodating all Mum's needs, even going to the library to choose her large print books. As a private person, she was wary of joining in activities and with dietary requirements, was concerned they wouldn't be able to meet her needs. How wonderful now to see on the home's social media pages photos of Mum choosing to join in many of the varied activities planned each week and the amazing chef who creates so many personalised dishes for her. The outcome for us all has exceeded our expectations and we look forward to our visits as we feel very included too.
My mother-in-law moved in April 2023, she has dementia and was struggling at home. She is now much happier and seems to enjoy life again. Being a gluten-free pescatarian food has always been an issue, but the chef has been so good and kind to her. The staff really seem to care about the residents and put on so much entertainment, so there is something for everyone.
