View Full Details of West Wood Care Home - Avery CollectionIt's never easy seeing a relative need to leave their home, but seeing my aunty so relaxed & happy at West Wood was marvellous. What a lovely place, serene with beautiful rooms and attentive, caring staff. Couldn't imagine a nicer place.
As a friend of a former resident, I am extremely disappointed with the service provided. My friend has dementia and is physically disabled following a stroke so is entirely dependent on carers to get her up and allow her access to the facilities. On visits, I noted the amount of time she was spending in her room, missing out on group activities and time in the garden. When this matter was raised by her Power of Attorney, management staff made no attempt to take responsibility or address the issues raised. The tone of email correspondence from the home manager was hostile and they repeatedly refused requests to meet face to face to discuss how to move forward. As the situation escalated, a complaint was made to the CQC. Soon after, my friend was informed that she was to be evicted from the home giving her 28 days to vacate her room and find an alternative care facility. The parting stinger was a bill for almost £600 to clean my friend's room on her departure!
My Mother and Father have been resident since March 2025, when they first arrived everything was fabulous and as promised. Since my last review staff have come and gone at an alarming rate, Managers don't last long and never introduce themselves, we are never informed what is going on and why changes are being made, it disturbs my parents. The food quality has deteriorated badly and nowhere near what was promised. Meal times have been changed, again with no explanation, this has worried and unnerved my parents and also disappointed them as they are not receiving the quality of service that was promised yet they still continue to pay a premium for what was promised as a premium service. The facilities are excellent but all the staffing problems and shortages and changes are making things uncomfortable. It would help massively if communication between Management and residents families existed allowing us to understand the changes and prevent my parents and myself from undue worry.
The person I care for has been at West Wood since end of November 2024. In that time we have had 3 managers and no manager. She has had 4 senior carers. All staff have been courteous and polite and we have forged a relationship with all of them. However, no one has told us when they have left. I am not informed changes (except the manager), all of which is very unsettling. I know it's a new home and you can expect teething problems but these are exceptional. I wonder why you can recruit but not retain staff.
My father spent time in West Wood Care Home after being discharge from hospital. Initially he was very anxious and confused but as his health improved he became more relaxed and settled. All the staff at West Wood were so kind to dad and all our family. They would sit and chat to dad if he didn't feel good, nothing was too much trouble. Dad loved going to the dining room and choosing his breakfast each morning and the kitchen staff were so friendly and patient with him. He would often talk about the lovely nursing and care staff including night staff who would wash and dress him in the morning. Although dad was happy to go home, his experience at West Wood was very good, which he loves to tell his friends!
My mother has been at West Wood since December 2024. The home is perfect in everyway. The rooms are spacious and light, meals are fantastic. Staff are amazing with my mother and cater to all her needs and wishes. I've never seen her smile so much since my father passed away. The management team are wonderful, always smiling and happy to help. It's definitely a 6 star service.
Helping my mother to choose full time care was a hard decision to make, but the whole West Wood team have been amazing! Nothing is too much trouble. My mother is so well looked after, and she adores all the people who care for her. The quality of the staff is exceptional, caring, efficient and on top of everything. The biggest decision my mother now has to make, is what to have for lunch! The food is excellent too, all home cooked and varied. I feel I have got my mother back, she is more relaxed and happier than I have seen her in years! I also love that West Wood has a really good connection with the local surgery, with a GP popping in weekly. The purpose built building is beautiful, clean and spacious, with some lovely touches -like the big lounges, the hydro bath and cinema. The garden will be lovely in the summer. I never thought my mother would settle in a home, but she genuinely loves West Wood!
Today we came to see our friend in this wonderful new care home, first impressions - staff are warm and friendly and our friend looks happy and so well looked after, the premises are so roomy and comfortable and the garden a lovely space to catch the Autumn sunshine, it has a lovely feel to it, a place to definitely enjoy life and Sheringham has a lovely town to explore.
