Latest Reviews for Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home

The initial contact was very positive indeed. Ass. Mangr. Karen did home visit - very kind, caring, interested.
Dad was more dependent in Sherwood than at home - the lack of electric rising chair & bed was a key reason for this. He reported that the staff were all lovely but just not enough of
them. Food was pretty good! Apart from chair & bed his main issue was a lack of people capable of a conversation. That's not a criticism of Sherwood! He did come out with a groin infection - a result of a slight lack of care when helping him shower & dry properly.

Staff were amazing, very friendly & caring.
My aunt was extremely happy with her stay, and, she is very fussy.
Emergency, last minute admission due to me going away, manager came very promptly & she was admitted the same day.
She has improved with her mobility thankfully.

Dad started using Sherwood Lodge for respite nearly 2 years ago but became a permanent resident in October 2025 as his health started to deteriorate.
We were always made welcome and I always felt the residents and their relatives were treated as part of a big family. The staff are second to none -
from the carers to the housekeepers, from the management to the maintenance team, from the admin staff to the catering team, nothing was too much trouble.
Sadly dad passed away in the home at the end of February but the care he received and the dignity with which he was treated was outstanding. We were able to spend his last days and nights with him as a family and what a comfort that was.

Sherwood Lodge was very friendly - all staff was lovely, nothing seemed to be a problem. Very welcoming & has a lovely warmth feeling about the home. Staff was always smiling.
We are grateful to you all in the short space of time (1 wk or so) I was made to feel mum had been there a while as staff
are so kind. Thank you.

My mum came in for respite for 2 weeks. We found Sherwood to be excellent in every way, from the cleanliness, to the friendly staff, we felt like nothing was too much trouble. I could highly recommend Sherwood. We would definitely use again in the future.

My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's 5 years ago. It was always my intention to care for her by myself but it became too much for me. I decided to seek respite.
I count myself so lucky to have found Sherwood Lodge Care Home. She stayed there for 2 weeks. It was a superb discovery.
She received
top service from all the staff who kept her well fed and very clean. They also ensured that she received her many medications and that her Type 2 diabetes was controlled and monitored correctly.
I must also mention the excellent craft activities that are offered.
All aspects of care are well covered.
I have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone in similar circumstances.

The care and nursing given to our relative was excellent. All members of staff superb, very welcoming and very attentive to all the residents. The home was always spotlessly clean with beautiful furnishings throughout. Our relative had been a resident for several years, and we had no worries or concerns
at all within this time.We were kept informed of the wellbeing and any medical issues promptly and with all medical issues needed.

Mum spent a brief time at the end of her life at Sherwood Lodge and her care was excellent. Mum was included and supported in settling in. Professional, caring and felt like family, not just for mum but for us too. The care, respect and dignity afforded to us all during mums last days will stay with
me forever. I can't recommend this home enough.

Respite care for 3-weeks, easy to organise and planned quickly, albeit very expensive. Carers friendly and helpful, took excellent care of Uncle's health and responded quickly to a medical emergency.
Rooms very basic but some do have ensuite toilet but feel money needs invested to modernise and
upgrade facilities. Think a TV and small fridge could be included for respite care.

My dad has been at Sherwood Lodge for around 8 weeks, and we are very pleased with the care he has received so far. He has settled in well and is clearly comfortable and well looked after.
The staff have been incredibly welcoming, polite, and genuinely caring in their approach, which has made a big
difference to both my dad and our family. He enjoys most of the meals, and we are especially impressed by how efficiently everything is managed - even down to how quickly his washing is turned around!
We feel reassured knowing he is in such good hands and are very grateful to the whole team at Sherwood Lodge.

My stay at Sherwood Lodge was very good and I enjoyed it. I will come again. The only thing I was disappointed with was the quality of the food. For example, steak and apple pies had no pastry, the apple in big chunks. The courgette soup was bland. The fish and chips were good.

Always so good, Dad loves every moment - food, entertainment, he loves all of the staff. It's is second home to enjoy.

Staff are friendly and brilliant with some very challenging residents. They are all very patient in any circumstances. Food good and plentiful, welcoming to visitors.

All the staff were wonderful with my husband who was reluctant to go into care whilst I had a break being his only carer for the last four years. We visited for lunch after he had returned home and staff asked him how he was and enquired about his cat which made him happy and helps me if I have a
break in the future.

On a trip to visit my mother, we were looked after by all the staff.
A table was set up away from noise and bustle so we could communicate with my deaf mum without the distraction of background noise.
We were invited to have lunch with my mum and when we offered to pay, the centre manager
wouldn't take any money.
All in all, a super visit and I would like to say thank you to all the friendly staff.

My mum has lived in 3 care homes in the last 15 months. She was unhappy (as were we) in the first two homes - but all this has changed now she is living at Sherwood Lodge!
The staff are amazing; they are warm, friendly, and caring and absolutely nothing is too much trouble. The management is always
available if necessary, and all the staff truly know Mum!
There are activities every day and feedback via the online page is invaluable for relatives - we see Mum joining in with activities, smiling and enjoying herself!
The food is of a very high standard too; there is a choice at every meal and snacks are available throughout the day.
If we call Sherwood Lodge - at any time of day - the phone is answered and any issues are dealt with immediately; this was a particular problem at her previous two homes, but not now!
I would recommend Sherwood Lodge in a heartbeat.

Excellent care for my mum. She has dementia and Alzheimer’s but is well looked after and cared for. Staff are always happy and show genuine concern and love for the residents. Always plenty of activities taking place to help stimulate the residents.

After suffering a stroke my Aunty needed 24/7 care in Barchester Sherwood Lodge Care Home. Staff work very hard to make sure that she is treated as an individual maintaining her own set of care needs. Everyone involved in her care is dedicated to enhancing her life as part of the Sherwood family.
Due to her stroke our relationship has changed due to her lack of communication skills, There is however a welcoming and listening ear if needed. Staff always answer any queries I have no matter how small which is very reassuring. My aunty and I are encouraged and helped to enjoy activities together. Music with a singer which we both love. Also respecting us when we need time alone together. I've found all of the team support invaluable as it all helps from the professionalism of staff and lovely food. I always look forwards to the cakes and coffee in the cafe area. Also the cleanliness of the home. We can now enjoy and get the most out of our time together. Thank you everyone at Sherwood.

I have visited a friend who is a resident at Sherwood Lodge Care Home on several occasions. She is very happy with her care and accommodation. I am also very impressed with the building, her room and the members of staff I have met during my visits. The dining room and the menus displayed look
excellent. I have also visited several other care homes (not part of the Barchester group) and do consider Sherwood Lodge to be far superior. I would be happy to be a resident there if and when the time comes.

I was really worried about my mum moving into Sherwood Lodge Care Home as she suffers from dementia and doesn't like change. She suffers from Aphasia too after a stroke in 2011. She had been residing in a care home for ten years when I was advised it was closing. I was naturally concerned about how
my mum would cope and adapt to this sudden change in environment.
I can honestly say the manager and staff at Sherwood Lodge Care Home have been brilliant. The kindness and support both myself and my mum have been shown is humbling, to say the least. Her room is clean, homely and comfortable, and my mum is settling in well and clearly cared for which is priceless. I have peace of mind knowing my mum is in the right hands. It's like she's part of a family, the Sherwood family, and I've not felt that before. There are activities daily too which I hope mum will be able to participate in some way.
