View Full Details of MallandsMy uncle has been at Mallands for 6 years now. The help and assistance he has had over the years has been outstanding. The home is as close to being in a family home as is possible. The staff are friendly, very helpful and competent. The building, rooms and grounds are well maintained, again by friendly staff. The food is of a very high standard... fish pie is my uncle's absolute favourite! When he needed to move to a home, we really felt we had found the best place possible. An excellent home.
I am able to visit twice yearly only, because I live out of the country. Every time I visit I am impressed by the continued professionalism, human warmth and kindness. I am impressed by the continuity of staffing over the past three years and the fact that staff know my mum so well, and deliver this care with affection and respect. The receptionist is exceptionally kind and helpful when I phone from Canada - and do their best to put Mum 'on the line'.
Both my parents moved into Mallands recently - we have found the home to be very easy to deal with + they provide a very caring environment. I am pleased that I do not have to now worry about my parents falling over + not being able to get up or be injured + not ask to get help.
Mum is always ready for her visitors we generally visit before lunch and she's fresh and chatty, we usually give her coffee which she enjoys still. Sadly she's confined to her room as her condition requires her to be bed bound. Consistent staff is a huge benefit as they are familiar to her and thats very important.
Mallands is a clean, comfortable, caring and very pleasant place to live. The staff have all been lovely people and mum has felt safe + cared for since she came to live. The food is excellent quality and tea + coffee are always available. My only comment is that ideally there would be more regular, targeted, stimulating activities for the residents, so there are never days when nothing much happens. But the activities that do happen are fun, or interesting, or relaxing. I think the staff really do their best.
My mother and father arrived at Mallands in November 2024. Care Manager and her staff carefully and very kindly dealt with this difficult transition. Lately my father passed away he was treated with dignity until the very end. Everyone has been compassionate and supportive and helped my mother and family deal with her/our grief.
I am blown away by the kindness shown by Mallands. Not only do they take care of my mum's day-to-day needs in a professional and friendly way but they take time and think about the little things that really make a difference. I find great comfort in knowing that my mum is not only safe but surrounded by people who really do care.
On the many occasions that I've visited Mallands, I've found a clean and tidy establishment, staffed by friendly and welcoming staff. I have noted the caregiver to residents, and in all, I am very impressed.
I am very impressed with the care my father receives at Mallands. The staff are very attentive to his needs, thoughtful and respectful towards him. My father suffers from depression, and the staff and manager do all they can to stimulate him and lift his mood in a gentle and sympathetic manner. Mallands is very well run in my opinion. The staff seem happy in their work, always welcoming and friendly when I visit. There are plenty of activities for residents who are able/wish to participate. Lastly, Mallands is well maintained/decorated and always clean!
My husband, who has dementia, has been a resident since February. He has a bright and airy room, looking out onto lovely, well-kept grounds. The well-trained, caring, staff have treated him with patience, kindness and good humour, which he appreciates. The residents are encouraged to take part in activities, and when the weather allows to sit in the garden and socialise with each other. Our GP recommended Mallands and I'm so glad she did. I would do so too.
We find our visits filled with attention to detail for all residents. The care is consistent throughout the lounge and all residents have different requirements. Our mum's needs have increased due to her condition and everything is done to cater for her change. Recently acquired funding for a specific chair will make a huge difference to Mum's mobility to outside garden access.
The carers and all staff have been amazing since Mum arrived in December 2022 and it has not wavered all this time. The care given was second to none. They couldn't do enough, definitely recommend this brilliant home.
My mother could not have been better cared for. The staff were consistently kind, empathetic, patient and generous with their time, both to my mother and myself.
My mother became a resident at The Mallands in June of 2023 amid a period of turmoil in her life; her dementia had caused her to feel her home was not hers, she was scared, not eating or able to care for herself and was leaving her home, seeking help. The team at Mallands helped her settle, got the measure of her spirit and dementia pretty quickly and risk-managed her leaving the home well, without impeding her or causing her or me stress. She grew into a contented dementia patient there, valued by the team and residents and with their coaxing, very much involved in daily life and socialising. The care manager was always very aware of and responsive to my communication about her growing needs. When out-of-hours help was needed, this was given swiftly, accurately and without question. In my mother's last days, the care manager and team were listening, sympathetic advocates, showing how they valued her as a special human being in her own right. This was all so helpful.
My wife has severe Alzheimers and has been in Mallands for nearly two years. She is very settled and all the staff are kind and caring. She cannot speak and is now totally immobile but seems generally contented. The accommodation is good. Activities appear good but she cannot participate.
I visit the resident once a week. The staff have always been very helpful towards me and the person I visit. They treat everyone with kindness and patience. The only thing I think could be improved is for care staff with English as their second language to speak more slowly and make sure they are understood when explaining things e.g. the direction the resident needs to move in.
Mallands care home takes very special care of your loved ones. The staff are just wonderful, attentive to each individual's needs and the atmosphere is always friendly, encouraging and positive. Our mother suffered a severe stroke and overnight had to come to terms with being totally independent to requiring 24/7, 2-person, personal care. The staff are amazing at keeping her dignity and always have her best interests by keeping her motivated and encouraging her out of bed. They arranged a hydrotherapy session at a local pool where 2 carers took her swimming. This triggered her realisation she still had a life to be enjoyed. The team and manager provide excellent care to all.
My mum only has experience with two care homes, and not naming the other, Mallands is vastly superior. They also looked after my late father for several months. I was able to recommend Mallands to someone who tells me that her father, now a resident, is very happy there. They were also very efficient during the difficult covid lockdowns. So to summarise, realistically, Mallands is as good as it gets.
My aunt was resident at Mallands from 2016 until April 2022. She settled in well and the staff were always caring and considerate. I was the main contact for her administrative affairs and I live some 200 miles away. The staff kept me regularly updated and were always available to discuss any areas of concern, particularly her failing health. My aunt realised that she needed continuing care and was always positive about her situation. The care home was always bright, spotless and tidy. The challenges of COVID were dealt with very well and I was updated (at least) weekly on how the challenges were being dealt with. Daily management of the home is most ably led by the care manager who (within reason) was always available to discuss all aspects of my aunt's care. The family and I could not have wished for a better location for my aunt in her final years.
My mum was at the care home for 5 and a half years and in all this time I have nothing but praise for the staff. Right from the start, everyone looked after Mum as if she was a member of the family. Nothing was too much trouble. The loving care, kindness and support she received was exceptional. All the staff were very professional. The management team always kept us fully up to date with information. During lockdown the team did a brilliant job of keeping residents safe from COVID, taking precautions before they became mandatory. When Mum's health deteriorated they were quick to seek advice, get the doctor or call for an ambulance. They provided fantastic nursing care at the end so Mum was able to pass away peacefully in familiar and comforting surroundings with open access for family visiting.
