View Full Details of Horfield LodgeThe care, pastoral and physical, given to my father who has Alzheimers, Parkinsons and kidney problems is outstanding. The staff are beyond kind, and treat him with a great deal of respect. I would not hesitate to recommend Horfield Lodge.
This home is outstanding for the care and support kindness the staff go above and beyond to help you my mum's care is out standing.food is beautiful I would not like my mum to be anywhere else the managers so professional at keeping this home at a high standard.
I came in to visit my partners mother who is on the nursing floor , I was offered a cup of tea and a piece of Victoria sponge cake by a friendly Indian gentleman on the nursing floor and the Victoria sponge was delicious And when I left. There was a. Remembrance band in the coffee shop area. And it was lovely to see. The residents there smiling and enjoying the music and there was a lady smiling and dancing.
My mother has now lived at Horfield Lodge for 4 years and is very settled. The facilities are excellent and the staff first class, and we have had no issues over the entire time mum has been a resident there. Would strongly recommend.
The staff clearly know and care greatly for the residents and have regular events and visits to provide entertainment etc. I have occasionally found it difficult to get through on the phone at weekends but that has improved. There has been an issue with catering lately due to departures and use of agency staff. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Overall, I know that my mum is safe, looked after and gets what she needs.
My mother has lived at Horfield Lodge for 5 years now and has always been provided with excellent care. All of the staff from the manager down have been kind and caring in supporting my mother and a great deal of effort is put into making sure her care and nursing needs are met.
Mum has been in Horfield Lodge for 9 months. She has been very well looked after, the staff are lovely, always friendly and cheerful and treat mum with kindness and respect. She is very happy there and feels safe and cared for.
My mother (resident) has chronic progressive MS and a personality disorder (amongst other things). Looking after her is challenging; she has capacity but can often make self-destructive choices and /or be unkind to others. I recently attended her CHC review with nurse Bernie. I have directly suffered and struggled with my mother's care for over 40 years. The CHC review is typically stressful and difficult to navigate. I just wanted to commend Bernie for her masterful handling of the situation. She speaks authentic truth with wisdom, care and compassion. I am so grateful.
I am happy with my Fathers Care at Horfield Lodge where the majority of staff are professional, kind and caring. Some are exceptional and go out of their way to create a homely environment. However for £6000+ a month the FOOD provided should be of a much higher standard. According to my Father it is frequently undercooked/ overcooked/ bland and lacks fresh green vegetables. Indeed I take him shopping twice a week to buy fresh food to supplement/ replace his meals. An excellent way to monitor standards would be for senior staff to eat the meals provided so they could experience the many problems.
My sister and brother-in-law are at Horfield Lodhe and seem happy & settled. My sister was concerned that her welcome pack was not available, and when I enquired said it was being updated. To my knowledge, she has still not got it. I feel the garden on the rooftop does not get the same attention as interior facilities. Such a shame.
So far Horfield Lodge has been a pleasant place for my mother to live. She has been here four weeks and is adapting to the change very well. She particularly enjoys not having to cook her own meals, she says the catering is very good. She also enjoys being able to move around the building and explore the various activities.
We have found a consistently high level of service and support for our Mum at Horfield Lodge, in the past year and a half of her residency. Her individual needs are recognised and met. Indeed, certain staff have gone above and beyond to settle and sustain her - for which we are hugely grateful.
My mother lived at Horfield Lodge for almost 5 years until her death in March 2025. She was very well looked after throughout her time there and found the staff kind and helpful. In her own words, 'It's nicer to be at home but, if you have to be cared for, Horfield Lodge is the best place you can be'. The staff gave skilled nursing care in her last few weeks and were exceptionally supportive of family during this sad time. I can't praise them highly enough.
My husband spent 2 weeks in respite care. All the staff welcomed him and were incredibly kind and attentive. A lovely, friendly and warm environment with committed staff. Thank you. He'd love to come back again in due course.
Mum and I had a lunchtime snack and hot drink in the coffee shop. The table was set ready for us with a 'reserved' sign and fresh flowers on the table - all very thoughtful. The member of staff was friendly, kind and attentive and made us feel very welcome. There were a couple of other residents and family eating at the same time which created a social atmosphere. All in all, a very positive experience. Thank you.
The review relates to the coffee shop. As a regular use of the coffee shop I would like to say what great service I receive. Always a big welcome for my mum The food is freshly cooked. Great toasties + paninis. Good selection. Very reasonably priced. Just to note the beginning of the week has more selection with a smile.
My mother moved in August 2018 and since this time has been looked after brilliantly by all the nursing and care staff. All the staff show a great deal of care, thought and love towards Mum, ensuring she is looked after with love and devotion. I know she is in a very safe, caring environment with very capable and caring staff. The staff are friendly, approachable and very considerate. They are open and honest and keep me informed on Mum's health and well-being. I could not ask for a better place for mum to be looked after and cared for. Thank you to all at Horfield Lodge.
In general terms the standard of care is satisfactory, though at times let down by the lack of communication exhibited by a large proportion of current staff. This is not helped by what seems to be a system relying on custom and practice, which by it's nature becomes diluted over time. There seems no easy path to voice concerns over issues, such as the food, which arrives on one's plate, likely of reasonable quality to start with. It is often badly cooked, greens for instance, being cooked to extinction, Offering little to nourish any recipients.
Since my admission here a month ago (from hospital after a fall and with Parkinson's) I have been greatly impressed by the high quality of care here. All carers in whatever capacity here have been consistently friendly and helpful. There is a genuinely friendly, personal atmosphere. My room is well furnished and consistently well maintained. I look forward to further development of the various activities when my wife joins me here later this week.
My husband and I were made to feel welcome from the start. The rooms are comfortable and we've been able to add our own personal effects. The food is very good and we enjoy having choice. The staff are friendly and competent.
