View Full Details of Astor Lodge ViewMy mother was in intermediate care while awaiting a place in a care home. My mother was well cared for with lots of physio to improve her mobility. We found the staff professional and very friendly.
My father was admitted for rehabilitation following a fall & being in Hospital. When he arrived the room was cold and initially the door couldn't be propped open. He had a friendly welcome, but we were not given information about the need to bring extra clothing, despite seeing what clothes had been brought in and my father having a catheter. There was an occasion where I had to phone & leave a message for the Dr (who was in the ward meeting) to urgently see my father, because his catheter was blocked & he was in pain. My father's bladder went into spasm & he ended up on tablets for this, following this incident! The nurses and carers were efficient, kind and caring, but my father did have to speak to one of the carers and ask her to stop shouting at him. The Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists were excellent.
My father was in Astor Lodge for 3 weeks. The family found the staff excellent and very helpful, and friendly. Also very supportive if you had any concerns over Dad's health.
My sister was admitted for rehab care following a leg fracture. The facility is unsuited to this. It was hard (sometimes impossible) for the OT/Physio to find equipment. There was no physical space to do things. The staff were exhausted and under pressure. The care home staffing was diabolical - waits for toilets/dressing were unacceptable. The food was very poor. No vegetarian catering at all. No nutritional value. Individual staff members were caring and thoughtful - the facility is grossly understaffed.
I was resident at Astor Lodge for just over 2 weeks, being discharged on Saturday, 13th September. The physiotherapist and occupational therapist were very good. Some night staff were very good, but some left something to be desired. I saw a doctor only once during my stay and would have appreciated a little more contact. Carers - some good, some inexperienced. Nurses were good when I had contact with them.
Having spent eight weeks in hospital having been unwell after. The offer was made to have a short 'recuperative' stay at Astor Lodge, which sounded the perfect tonic on my route to recovery. Astor Lodge provided first class in every respect as shown in the ratings. A credit to the NHS.
Everything & everyone very good.
Visiting since February all cheery kind people & caring to al the people. Clean, cosy rooms & bright & clean. Meals looked very tasty & catered for those who needed softer food Their beds are very safe & secure. Found the staff so very caring. I would recommend this home. I could find no complaint. 10 out of 10. Thanking all the staff.
Very well looked after by caring lovely staff. Only slight problem, hot food served on cool plates, suggest a heated cabinet.
My mum has only been in the lodge for a couple of months. I feel since moving her care just isn't the same. Some days I go she's covered in food, her bedding is quite often dirty, covered in food and sometimes faeces. I don't feel she's a little neglected with her hygiene. I asked before Christmas if she could have her hair cut and facial hair removed which didn't get done. Overall a bit disappointed.
My mam went into care in May 2022, as her dementia worsened, and she found it very difficult to come to terms with her situation, however through the relentless efforts of the care team at Astor Lodge she is now settling into this new phase of her life. As a family we are extremely grateful that we can now rest assured that our mam is being well looked after in a friendly, safe and caring environment.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Good standard of care and attention.
Astor View has made my Mam's last few months very comfortable. They took care of her with dignity and love. My Mam was very happy there. The only downside is the laundry. Clothes never looked ironed and belongings seem to get lost.
Have been at Astor View for several months, both as residential and now nursing. Never expecting I would end up in care, I have had to adapt to a new way of life. The care and consideration given to me is first rate and although many of the residents are bed bound and with dementia etc, I have tried to mix as best I can. I get plenty of encouragement from management and staff. I would not have made the progress I have on my own.
My mother is taken very good care of at Astor Lodge View care home and she enjoys the food and other residents can often come in to say hello and make friends. Her room is cleaned daily and the staff and management are extremely good and kind to my mam. I can now relax a lot more knowing my mam is being well cared for and looked after by the manager and all the nursing and care staff.
I love the staff and the care provided.
All the staff are wonderful.
Most of the staff are pleasant and helpful but I have not seen the manager since admission. Unit manager very unhelpful. Room smells of urine. Asked for the carpet to be cleaned as it stinks but this hasn't been done.
Mum has been resident here for 7 months following a fall which resulted in a long hospital stay. The staff are lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent and there is plenty to eat. Someone pops in to see if mum needs anything at least every hour, frequently more often. The rooms are comfortable and kept very clean. Overall an excellent home which I would recommend to others.
The staff are amazing and kind and go above and beyond, even coming in on days off. They are just amazing.
