I requested an urgent assessment for respite care for someone I have power of attorney for. The comprehensive assessment of needs was completed at home, by the clinical lead practitioner for Bowes House within 24 hours. Admission was arranged for the following day as the individual elderly gentleman
was struggling to manage at home, his self-care had deteriorated and he had recently had a couple of falls.
On admission we were greeted by friendly attentive staff and despite initial natural anxieties about being in a care provision, the resident soon settled into a routine and with assistance from the caring staff has requested to extend his period of respite care for a further two weeks.

Following a challenging hospital stay, my mother was admitted to Bowes House for a six-week period of rehabilitation, which has since transitioned into long-term care. Her needs are complex and require specialist nursing support. Although the staff were initially unprepared for this level of care,
they actively sought specialist training to accommodate her requirements, thereby enabling her continued residence at Bowes House. Without such training, she would have required readmission to hospital.
The staff provide high-quality care and foster an inviting environment for families. Residents benefit from engaging activities, and family participation is encouraged. The coffee lounge offers visitors a comfortable space to enjoy refreshments.
I am deeply appreciative of the staff's commitment and professionalism throughout my mother's time at Bowes House.

I can only speak very positively of my Mum's experience of two-weeks respite at Bowes House. Having been diagnosed with several health issues, and the hospital not having any beds, my Mum required urgent nursing care. We thought respite would be the answer. Bowes House arranged an assessment and my
Mum was moved in within 24 hours. With the loving and professional care she received she has fully recovered and is returning home. Both my Mum and Dad have been fully supported. Staff are caring, professional and very friendly. Mum and Dad feel like they have made new friends and are looking forward to attending the activity sessions soon.

My father has been in Bowes House for nearly a month now. He suffers from Alzheimers and needs constant supervision.
When visiting him I have been greeted by friendly staff ready to inform me about his wellbeing. I can see that he is well cared for and looked after. The care staff are always
kind and reassuring to him.
The home looks clean, tidy and well maintained.
There seems to be lots of activities for the residents to participate in if they wish.
My father is enjoying the food offered and looks forward to meal times. I notice that he always has snacks and drinks when he wants them as well.
The management have been very helpful and informative with their advice to me.

My husband had respite stay at Bowes House recently.
On our initial look around, I felt reassured that he would feel comfortable there. Staff were friendly and informative and we were made to feel that no question was too trivial.
The whole building was light and calm with cosy, homely areas to
sit in.
My husband really enjoyed his week there and took part in many activities. The staff were lovely.

Lovely clean, caring well managed home. My Dad has always been very reticent about going into care but hit crisis point and had to leave home. Bowes House was excellent on viewing and remained so on his transfer from hospital. He is well cared for and has joined in the activities most days and the
food is lovely with a varied menu.Thank you to all At Bowes House for caring

My Dad has been at Bowes House for respite care for a few weeks and we've just extended his stay with every hope to make it a permanent home for him. My Dad has settled so well and we can see a real improvement in him. The whole team at Bowes House have been exceptional, so caring, friendly and
supportive to us as well as Dad. Everyone knows his name and greet him with a smile and friendly chat. We know he's safe and well cared for. I can't recommend this home highly enough.

My stepmother has been a resident at Bowes house for 2.5 year now, although the association with Bowes began months before this when she decided to move into residential care. Despite being towards the end of the Covid pandemic, communication was excellent form day one. The care that my stepmother
receives is second to none, both personal and social. Having worked in Health and Social care for much of my working life, I feel I can say this with authority.
The care goes well beyond physical needs, ensuring that individual resident's social interests are well met and exceeded. The staff at Bowes go out of their way to provide a huge variety of activities from music, to art, board games to exercise classes. Religious needs are also well met. Significantly, the recent Care UK's granting wishes charity project is enabling to attend an opera. It was no mean feat for the staff at the home to arrange the tickets, wheel chair taxi and two carers to enable her dream to come true.
I highly recommend Bowes.

Well worth a visit to see for yourself!

My sister and I are mum's carers. Mum's 97 and whilst reasonably independent still needs looking after. Bowes was just what the family needed whilst my sister was in Canada visiting her daughter. Continuous caring by me would have been just too much for me, she being in Bedfordshire and me in East
Sussex and away from my family when caring. So respite care for a month was as much for me as it was for her.
The people at Bowes were all wonderful during her months stay and the facility first class in every respect. I would have no hesitation in arranging future respite care at Bowes if circumstances required.

Bowes house care home have been very welcoming to my father which has been there since January for assessment.
Staff very friendly, facility's very clean and very smart .I feel not only is my dad getting support but also me . Bowes house are trying to accommodate my dad with his hobbies but my
father does not really like to join in , After visiting other homes nothing comes near bowes house .

My husband has now been at Bowes House for 9 months, recommended by an Eastbourne home that couldn't cope with him. His dementia has been managed with competence, kindness, empathy & respect; every challenge met with a solution based approach. As a carer it is a huge & dreadful decision to place
your loved one in another's care, you are left with senses of guilt for "putting them in a home" and inadequacy that you couldn't cope. I can now see that this wonderful team of compassionate people are providing him with a better quality of life than I as a sole carer could hope to give. Thank you to everyone at Bowes, the culture of kindness and competence is evident throughout the home. I highly recommend Bowes House.

Accepting that caring for Dad at home was no longer tenable has been tough. Following a fall, hospitalisation and a somewhat unhappy period in a nursing home that couldn't cope with Dad's level of dementia, we found Bowes House. Dad fits well in an environment which is geared to residents with
various forms and manifestations of dementia. He is well looked after and treated as an individual. Staff are friendly, attentive and patient, treating each resident with respect and kindness. Communication between the home and ourselves has been excellent. All staff contribute to the sense of welcome and homeliness from the moment we walk in. The physical environment is clean and spacious with wide corridors, very nice individual rooms and lovely communal areas for residents and guests to gather in 'non-institutional' settings. Dad has taken part in some of the many and varied organised activities which add to the sense of a safe and stimulating environment for all residents.

My dad spent the past few weeks at Bowes House and has received really good care. I visit regularly and Dad is always cleab, comfortable and content. My dad is bed-bound and I've been impressed by the standard of care, regularly changing his position to avoid any pressure points, checking he has
eaten/had a drink throughout the day and of course, all the personal care. All these aspects are carefully monitored throughout the day and night and a checklist has to be signed at set intervals. I would recommend Bowes House.

My sister and myself have both commented on how calmer and more organised Barley unit seems since one member of staff, in particular, has been there.
2-3/12.
We've had a few issues which I've taken to management but I've taken the incident from last week straight to this member of staff, who
dealt with it there and then, said she would discuss with the team. Today (12/12) she updated me.
I feel with this member of staff and another two, in particular, it's the details of care that have improved, all the staff on Barley are great but a few shine.
A member of staff now on Meadows is awesome. Dad's face lights up when she comes in to say hello to him, as does Dad's face with another member of staff.

What a wonderful place Bowes House is, we found it after comparing a few different care homes and this is by far the best. The staff are wonderful with my mother-in-law, they have adjusted meals to accommodate her needs and supported her in building friendships. Truly 10/10.

Bowes House was an amazing find. Right from our first discussion and contact with a member of staff it has been impressive. My mum, I think it is fair to say, had a predetermined idea of what the care home might be and she has had a complete change of thinking. She now wishes to stay on after her
respite. Bowes House was immediately friendly and welcoming from the staff and all the residents. The layout is fantastic - lots of different areas that residents can go to rather than one big lounge. My mum was instantly included in activities and she has blossomed in their care. Their flexibility to support individuals needs is fantastic and supporting her independence has been at the center of it. Knowing that my mum is in Bowes and is enjoying her later years is so reassuring. One member of staff in particular has been a great contact throughout and is always quick to respond to queries and provide advice and support when requested. Thank you.
