View Full Details of Torkington HouseMy 1st time used respite care, I really like the care plan arrange. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of using respite care package, you should do it, because it gave you the opportunity to rest a bit from looking after your love one for a long time. You still can visit your love one at the care home at anytime. I would do it again, if I need a break.
Torkington House Looked after my late mother for 15 Months, in time my had dementia and was slowly declining. The team looked after my Mum 24/7. It was nice when I closed the door I knew she was safe and well cared for. They dressed here and kept her appearance and hair just as she went into home a very smart Lady. Above the care for my mother , they were also looking after me, Teas coffee biscuits and the odd cheeky bowl of chips. Garden parties, trips to park and theatre where All part of months plan, which you received by email every weekly. Most of all, the care team where kind gentle And always there to help, you couldn't ask for much more.
My final email to the management at Torkington says it all - Dear Manager, Thanks for your condolences. However, I particularly wanted to drop you a personal note to express my thanks and gratitude for the care that you and your Team have given my wife over the past five years. There are many care homes to choose from but we were fortunate to find Torkington. The standard of care my wife received has been exemplary and the staff have shown themselves to be compassionate and genuinely concerned for the welfare of the residents in their charge. Hard though it has been to be separated from my wife these past years she could not have been in better hands. Lastly, I have to say a special thanks to all the staff who cared for my wife (and me!) last week. Their support made my wife's last days as easy as possible and I was touched by their genuine affection for my wife. Thanks again and my best wishes to you and your staff. Best,
My mother stayed at Torkington House for a fortnight while work was being done on her house. Although her Alzheimer's meant she herself has no recollection of her time there, my brother and I were very happy with how content she seemed when we visited and when she came home. We were free to visit at any time and the staff were always welcoming. They were cheerful and friendly but also clearly take their work very seriously and professionally. We will certainly use Torkington House again if/when the occasion arises.
The team at Torkington are very professional and engage with the residents at any opportunity, even if it's just to say hello. Things are done at the residents pace there is no pressure only encouragement. The environment is clean and well-kept and continually inspected for any issues that need rectifying. Medical issues are dealt with swiftly, where I may have hesitated; they would be seeking medical advice and instigating remedial steps, and by catching things quickly avoid causing unnecessary distress. The activities are well planned and varied so that residents with differing abilities can participate. The activities manager is very proactive (and could give the Duracell bunny a run for the money), encouraging creative and practical session content. The use of technology to monitor residents, is impressive and reassuring, guaranteeing assistance will be there if needed. I have witnessed such a marked improvement in my mother's overall wellbeing since being at Torkinton.
My mother has stayed twice so far for respite care. The staff have been lovely; welcoming, supportive and interested in her and us. She was well cared for, and whenever I visited or other friends visited we were also welcomed. There seems to be a core staff team who are permanent staff (not agency), which is a real strength I think. The bedrooms are en-suite and peaceful, there is a lovely spacious dining room looking over the garden, and the garden is a real gem: my mother liked sitting out there with us.
My mum spent one month at Torkington House. From the moment she arrived to when she left, she was taken care of impeccably. The staff was extremely friendly and dealt with Mum's initial anxiety of being somewhere unfamiliar with empathy and professionalism. Whenever I called to get an update of how Mum was doing, the team were always willing to update me. The day I came to pick Mum up to take her back home, she was smiling and happy to introduce me to all the other residents she met during her stay.
My father has been a resident at Torkington House for nearly two years now and in that time he has been looked after impeccably. He has been happy and cared for tirelessly by care staff that really care and look after his every need. The entire team run a happy home professionally and lovingly that I have total faith in, not once have I seen anyone act inappropriately or carelessly towards residents, guests and each other. I cannot fault Torkington House and have recommended it to others.
My husband spent one week at Torkington House for respite care. I am disappointed with the care he received. The staff was informed that he is able to walk about 20 feet very slowly using the frame. But he was kept in the wheelchair all of the time, with no walking done at all except from bed to the toilet and back. As a result, he was very unsteady on his feet when he returned. When he did not have his meals regularly no nutritional drinks were given, he was feeling very tired and weak by the end of the week. When he returned home it looked like he had not been shaved for at least two days. The syringe used for his medication was missing from the pack. An old syringe was provided later which did not look clean at all. The invoice sent was not for the agreed number of days. Amended one sent later with names misspelt. The most serious was his DNR report was not with him when he returned home. It had to be collected later. This is not the kind of care we were promised.
Very kind and friendly staff. Anyone that I spoke to knew where he was or how he was doing. Always confident that he was well looked after for his respite care. My father was also happy and enjoyed the food and liked the environment.
We were very pleased with the home. Our first impression was the cleanliness of the home and the friendliness of the staff. Although she was apprehensive when we were leaving, she enjoyed it there and wasn't happy about leaving there. She loved singing and kept the other residents entertained. We are hoping that they can accommodate her again next month when we need further respite care for a few weeks.
My aunt has been at Torkington House for the last 4yrs, the staff are amazing, always very approachable, she always says that the staff are very nice, she is happy and looked after extremely well, what we want for our loved ones is to be looked after and cared for well and Torkington House goes beyond all that.
For 5 years, Torkington Carehome was home to my sister who needed to be cared for. Whilst we oversaw the care package with the manager and lead teams, we always found it a pleasant, clean place with activities, good food and care for my sister and others in there. The room was spacious and had a window facing the garden which is always nice. My sister's safety and care was paramount, and we were comfortable with this side of things. Most of all, the staff were lovely and friendly and the lead staff and manager were very approachable at any time. They also kept us informed regularly when required. We would recommend Torkington Carehome, as it is a good space for loved ones to be cared for. Oh! That garden is so beautiful to sit in when visiting! Thank you, Torkington House!
Everyone takes very good care of my mum, which gives me peace of mind. My mother loves the chef and his food. She's looked after very well. I go there daily and see her clean and content. The few times when she wasn't well, it was arranged for her to go to hospital. The staff are always friendly.
My nan has been in the care of the wonderful staff at Torkington House for just over a year now. She is happy, healthy, and very well looked after, and this is all you can ask for. The standard of care here is excellent. We were so glad to have found Torkington House and as time goes on, we appreciate it even more!
As a family, we made the decision to place mum in Torkington House as we could no longer care for her in her own home. It was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make. However, we very quickly realised it was the best decision we could have made. The care mum receives at Torkington is second to none. She has been a resident for eight months and her quality of life has definitely improved for the better. The range of stimulating activities (on and off-premises), amazing and varied home-cooked food and level of dignified care given are outstanding. All of this would not be possible without the entire team of wonderful staff. Every single member of staff is courteous, and kind and has mum's best interests at heart. We are regularly kept updated about mum's care and are frequently asked if we have any worries or concerns. As a family we could not ask for more, it is wonderful to know that mum is safe at all times. We can not thank you enough Torkington House!
Torkington House is a wonderful place. My mum has been a resident for a few weeks and she is happy and settled. She participates in daily stimulating activities and enjoys them. She is so well cared for, there is always one of the amazing carers by her side and her comfort and happiness always comes first. We, as a family, know that she is safe at all times. Not to mention the delicious home cooked food! Thank you so much Torkington House!
A friend recommended Torkington House. I had the opportunity for respite for Mum for 2 weeks and I grasped it after having a look round the home and meeting the staff. The staff are amazing so professional, caring and kind and you get the sense they want to make the experience for my Mum and myself to be the best it can be. They were so helpful to me and understanding of my need for a break. The home is very clean and smells good and Mum said the food was great. There are activities during the week; which all sounded good and varied. Mum enjoyed the singing. Pretty garden and rooms are very nice. Staff greet you cheerfully and when you leave it is the same, they cannot help you enough! Very impressed with this care home and we will continue to use their wonderful services. Thank you to all the staff.
A big thank you to the team at Torrington House for a fantastic coronation BBQ. Me and my partner so much enjoyed ourselves and it was so lovely to see the residents enjoying themselves too. It’s lovely to see the Mayor being involved and showing their support. Once again, a big thank you.
My father went in for respite care at Torkington House. He was very against leaving his own home and did not wish to be associated with the negative stigma of a care home. The staff made him feel very welcome and were very patient with his dementia care. After a few weeks of respite care, my father was crying because he did not want to leave, saying he got used to where he was. The manager facilitated a smooth transfer to a longer-term care facility nearer to my father's own home and us, making my father as comfortable as possible during the stay. Really great staff, who are managed well and low turnover of staff, which is not usual to see.
