Reviews

9.6 Torkington House has a Review Score of 9.6 (9.636)

The Review Score of 9.6 (maximum of 10) for Torkington House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Torkington House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.636 for Torkington House is calculated as follows: ( (97 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 143 Ratings = 4.636

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Torkington House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6.4 positive Reviews (32 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 8 Reviews ÷ 6.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My sister and I came to view the home around 5 months ago and loved it! Our father has been going there regularly and he is happy again. I would not hesitate in recommending this home to others.

My mother has been at Torkington House for 16 months. The care has always been of the highest quality and in the last six months improvements throughout the home have been made. I am always welcomed day or night. The staff are friendly and efficient. Any issues have been dealt with promptly and with empathy. My mother has Alzheimer's and I visit at least twice a week. She is happy and well cared for. This is an amazing home.

The staff are very caring to my father. The care home kept well and homely and gardens.
Good variety of food on the menu.
Extra touches done around the home, special days, St Patrick's day, St Davids Day, Easter, Christmas and residents birthdays when special cakes are made.
These little touches go along way. I am a regular visitor to the home to visit my father and I notice this. 100%

An outstanding manager at Torkington House means the care home is run with compassion, dedication, humour, an understanding of the needs and of the individual character of each resident, and every member of staff is welcoming, kind, caring, and never harsh. Any concerns are always listened to and dealt with immediately with sensible solutions.

Visitors are welcomed, and there is never a problem taking my mother out, even at short notice, which is marvellous. The beautifully kept garden is a source of great joy for residents, and a splendid summer party was organised there, with delicious food, good music, grandchildren in evidence, and the local MP drawing the raffle, (all residents got a prize). We have another invitation for a Christmas party already, showing the manager's wish for the residents to feel part of the community.

My 97-year-old, previously independent living, mother has made the transition with ease, and the care she receives has given us all huge peace of mind.

Torkington House is a well run and 'homely' residential facility. It is led by a fantastic manager and senior team who are focused on meeting the needs of the residents. The team is supported by many longstanding and committed care staff.

My mum generally feels well cared for and looked after; residents and their relatives are consulted on matters to do with the home; relatives can visit/drop in at almost any time and requests are accommodated. On the rare occasion when I have raised issues with the home, these matters have been resolved in a sensitive and constructive way.

The home works hard to engage residents in activities, even the quiet ones like my mum! There are also a number of joyful well organised and well attended annual events for residents, family and friends.
My mum has been at Torkington for almost 10 years and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease aged 64 years in 2011. I first visited Torkington House three years ago, feeling apprehensive and saddened at the prospect of arranging day care for him, but I was received with such kindness by the home manager, who was able to answer all my questions and put my mind at ease. He has now been attending the day care service three or four times a week for the past three years, where he is always made to feel most welcome and the excellent care he receives is given in such a kind and respectful way by all members of the staff. He is currently in respite care which has enabled me to have a much-needed break from being a full-time carer in the knowledge that he is safe and being so very well cared for. I hope to be able to continue to care for my husband at home but Torkington House will most certainly be my choice of residential care home should I need to consider full-time residential care for him in the future.

My sister has been a very happy resident at Torkington House for 9 years. She is 90 years of age, I am 80 and unfortunately could not look after her. I am very satisfied with the care and attention she receives. The staff are friendly and efficient and very patient with her.

My mother has been a resident at Torkington House on a self-funding basis for over 3 years. The care and service she has received has been truly excellent. If any issues have arisen, the communication has been timely and professional at all times. I genuinely believe that Torkington House is one of the best care homes in the UK. I would not want to select any individual for exceptional care/service as all the staff are very caring which is a credit to their training and the Management at Torkington. Finally, Torkington House should be used as an example to other care homes to show how the elderly can be properly cared for in terms of their dignity and general well being.

I am extremely happy that my Cousin is in Torkington House. She has quite severe dementia, and the nursing care is superb. All the nurses as far as I know have been very kind and attentive to her and she always looks well cared for and respectable.

My cousin appears to be very happy staying at the care home.
She does find the temperature of the room to be too high at times, and is unable to control the heating due to an old and broken heater.
My cousin is a somewhat untidy and messy person, but I feel that better cleaning of her room, particularly to dusting and carpet cleaning is required.

My mother lived for the last three years of her life, and those years were happy and safe. Torkington transformed her situation as she was not eating properly and was rather isolated in sheltered accommodation. We were very lucky to find this care home as it has such a good, caring environment. Many staff had been working there for many years. The Manager is the key to the success of the home as she is such a warm personality and residents' faces light up in conversation with her. At the same time she ensures that all aspects of the home are efficiently run. Catering is excellent and innovative at times. Friends and relatives are welcome to visit at any time and join in meals if they like. There are regular activities run by the Activities Coordinator, who again is excellent in this role. The Senior Carer keeps a close eye on all the resident's medical needs. Its such a great team and all staff meet the high standards.
Before and after my mother died, everyone at Torkington was most caring and considerate and helped me and my family come to terms with our loss. Indeed, it was clearly their loss as well. I cannot recommend the home highly enough, it is just about the right size for a home that can treat everyone as individuals and maintain their dignity and autonomy as much as possible.
