I have visited many care homes over the years (in a professional capacity) and I can honestly say that Arden House is one of the very best. It is spotlessly clean, well staffed and well managed. Food, activities and medical supervision are all of a high standard. I have no worries at all about the level
of care my mum in receiving.

My cousin was extremely well cared for in the time that she was a resident. I live in Australia and only saw her a couple of times, but when I phoned, they always were able to bring her to the phone. Problem in having a response from the manager at the time, but the workers were excellent.

My 1st time used respite care, I really like the care plan arrange. I would recommend anyone who is thinking of using respite care package, you should do it, because it gave you the opportunity to rest a bit from looking after your love one for a long time. You still can visit your love one at the care
home at anytime. I would do it again, if I need a break.

Speirs House

from J B (Daughter of Resident) published on 22 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Having chosen this home above all others 3 years ago for my beloved mum when she was no longer safe to live in her own home due to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, I continue to rate Speirs House as excellent. All the stuff that actually really matters, they absolutely excel at. The care, the professionalism,
the efforts to provide a sense of home for each of their residents, the respect and the consideration for complex human needs - the list goes on. I've experienced nothing but kindness, and creative solutions to help with mum's unpredictable ups and downs. They love her, and for that, I love them. Genuinely top down, really well supported person centred care - the staff are happy and constant, and this translates to a lovely environment for mum to have the best quality of life that she can have. Excellent manager, excellent staff, excellent building and grounds.

We recently moved my mother to this home and are delighted with it! My mother has settled in very quickly and we honestly can't fault anything. The staff are universally wonderful, friendly and caring. Stayed for lunch with mum a couple of days ago and had a delicious meal, I think I'll do that regularly!
The building is a characterful old property and has beautiful extensive grounds which my mother is getting a lot of pleasure from. It's giving myself and my sisters huge peace of mind to know mum is being so well looked after and is contented.

I'm am disappointed at the level of care given to my relative. There is no consistency in care a large turn over of staff. Pore and non existent management, no explanations as to high turnover of management. My relative has been in this care come for 2 1/2 years and has spent over £300k on care. We
were told when she entered the home it was a home for life however this is NOT the case. After a stay in hospital due to negligence of staff she has been refused return. Management still a week later have provided no explanation or will even engage with us. All her things are in her room. They are only interested in your money. On the surface it's lovely but they really don't care. Residents are just a cash cow. Avoid at all costs. It's a shame only a bad review will actually get a phone call from management.

Dear L A,Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Your loved one was an important part of our community and we appreciate how hard this has been.We understand and share your frustration with the hospital discharge. While we aimed to act quickly, the process was disjointed. We're truly sorry for the added stress and have taken steps to prevent this happening again. We were saddened that, after reassessment, we could no longer safely welcome your relative back. As discussed with you, she now requires nursing care we're not registered to provide. Our 'Home for Life' is a financial assurance and applies when a resident's funding runs out. Please accept our apologies if this was ever unclear. We hear your concerns about staffing. We are pleased we now have a strong General Manager in post and continue to strengthen our team.Though this wasn't the ending any of us wanted, we hope that the earlier moments of care remain meaningful. Please let us know if you'd like to talk further.

Our experience with staff has found them caring supportive and friendly. Their tasks carried out efficiently but making sure dignity of resident and comfort are at maximum. They listen and take on board any information we have given to help them converse or understand mum's speech. Any questions we
have had have been answered.

My Mother of 97 has spent the final 2 years of her life with De Lucy House. She was a reluctant resident to begin with, but was offer so much care and love it was impossible for her not to settle and be comfortable.

She has now passed away with so much dignity and with such peace.

I will forever

We've had a worrying time after my Mother having a fall & breaking her hip. She was discharged from hospital only 48hrs after the operation.
The nurses & carers have been absolutely fabulous in taking care of her. They have also been very assuring to me.
I couldn't ask for a better home for my Mum.

Rose Cottage

from Kim A (Niece of Resident) published on 24 June 2025

My aunts health had deteriorated at the end of last year, so I started researching care homes for her. My aunt was very sure she wanted to stay in her own home so she was added to the waiting list and invited to attend community sessions. She has now been attending these for a few months and although
not ready to move in, admits she enjoys attending and is happy to go again. The staff are very kind and go the extra mile to make sure everyone is happy and have all they need. It has been really good for my aunt to spend time with people of her generation and have time out enjoying the different activities.

Reply from Jennifer Dade, Registered Manager at Rose Cottage

Thank you so much for your lovely review of Rose Cottage. The activity session are something we are really proud of as they help offer an insight into care for those who are not certain of the move and worry what life would be in a care setting.

My husband has Alzheimer's and has attended activity sessions at Rose Cottage since January 2025.
He really enjoys his days at Rose Cottage.
From my first visit I was taken with the welcoming and homely atmosphere. The staff are caring , supportive and accommodating to both my husband and myself.
I feel I can relax knowing he is in a safe, supported and enjoyable setting.

What an excellent home this is, it has been one of the best choices we have made. My mum has been in the home for nearly a year and the care she has received, the activities provided and the staff's dedication has been brilliant. My mum's quality of life has improved and knowing this and that she is
so well looked after has given us such peace of mind, thank you.

Reply from Rebecca Bewley, Home Manager at Henley House

Thank you for those lovely words. We love to see positive changes when residents see there are benefits of friendship, company and stimulation from being part of the community at Henley House. Mum is very much part of the Henley family, and it's a privilege to have her here with such lovely support from her family. I'll ensure those comments are passed on to the team.

The home manager and mini bus driver went over and above to ensure that my relative was able to attend an event which they recognised was very important to her.
I find the senior carer excellent and feel that she really cares about the people she looks after.
I have no hesitation recommending all
of the facilities that Henley House has to offer and am confident in the care and commitment that they are giving my relative.

It's impressive that the management and staff of The Orchards manage to give frail elderly (and often confused) people a reason to live. There is a lot of compassion.
