My mother has been at this wonderful care home for nearly a year. I'm extremely pleased with the way she is so well looked after in such a dignified caring safe and comfortable environment. The great staff are very professional and welcoming keeping me fully informed
This is very important as I have
my own health issues which restrict me from being able to visit as often as I would like.
Thank you all so much

Simply put the care afforded to mum at Speirs House has been nothing short of outstanding in the year and a half that she has been here. I live abroad and so my worry always is/was is mum going to be sufficiently cared for. The answer is emphatically yes. Lead by the manager and her very able team.
I am over the moon with the care. Keep going. Excellent staff.

The Briars

from P W (Cousin of Resident) published on 29 January 2026

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My comments relate more generally to the home rather than the last visit in December 2025. The care, support and meals are excellent. As a social worker said 'it passes the Mums test' meaning it would be ok for one's Mum to be looked after there. Being an older property it doesn't have what some newer
homes have that is a private lounge with coffee table etc so visitors can have a private chat with residents.
Reply from Lesley Shaw, Home Manager at The BriarsMany thanks for your review. Please pop in next time you are on the Island and we will arrange a private area for your visit.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
As a family we are grateful for the outstanding care dad receives from all the staff at the Briars. We always find the staff kind, compassionate and the senior staff extremely approachable when discussing Dad's care or any concerns. It is a peace of mind knowing that Dad is well liked and treated with
respect. He enjoys the leisure time that he is able to spend in the dining room or lounge. The home is clean with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We would definitely recommend the Briars to other families.

The Briars

from A J (Daughter of Resident) published on 29 January 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mother has recently moved to the Briars RH. She has settled in quickly at the home, and I think this is down to the caring staff and the dignity with which they treat residents.
The security for getting in /out of the home, and when taking my mum out for a walk, feels very safe.
I was present
on my last visit for 3 meals, and looked very tasty and healthy. It's just unfortunate that my mother has little appetite these days.
My mothers care, including giving medication on time, managing her agitations etc, all seems to have been done with the utmost dignity by staff. And she absolutely loved having a bath, which she has not been able to have for a few years.
This is an honest account of my observations when I visited in December, and therefore, these comments are only a snapshot of her time at the home. Unfortunately as I'm not resident on the island, my visits are infrequent. But I'm pleased to say I have no concerns regarding her care so far.
Reply from Lesley Shaw, Home Manager at The BriarsMany thanks for your lovely review which I will share with the staff.

My father has been a resident at Tickford for several months, and we feel he's very well taken care of. His room is very comfortable, and if he's not in a communal area, staff regularly check in and offer a cup of tea. He really enjoys the many and varied activities at the care home, the TV room, cinema
screenings and the extensive patio and grounds.
Having a loved one with Alzheimer's isn't easy, but whenever we have any concerns, the staff are always available to talk through any issues and help Dad. That gives the family real peace of mind, fully believing that Tickford has his best interests at heart.

I should like to thank you all, every single member of staff, for the loving care and compassion shown to my husband during his very short two week stay at Glebelands. All the staff were amazing and went above and beyond to make his last few prescious days as comfortable as possible. And thank you for
the kindness shown to me and my two sons after he passed away on Saturday. I would not hesitate to recommend Glebelands Care/Nursing Home in Wokingham with all my heart.
Reply from Doina Hirta, Home Manager at GlebelandsThank you for taking the time to write this review .Although your husband's time with us was short ,we are pleased that we could make a difference and add value to the moments you had together in our home . A very friendly and relaxed Care Home. Staff are very caring and treat the patients with kindness and dignity. Management are always very approachable and willing to help with any problems. Plenty of daily activities that cater for everyone. Its not easy moving a loved one into a Care Home, but I am
glad we chose Sharnbrook House.
Reply from Emma Thornton Locke, Deputy Manager at Sharnbrook HouseThank you so much for taking the time to share your kind feedback. We understand how difficult it can be to make the decision to move a loved one into a care home, and we're truly honoured that you chose Sharnbrook House. Your comments about our staff, management, and activities mean a great deal to us, and we're delighted to know you feel supported and reassured. Thank you again for your trust.

My mum returned from hospital much less well, we prioritised getting her back to Speirs "her home" for final stages of her life with us and the staff who know her so well. Mum's care has been excellent, showing real empathy, care, respect and dignity.

My mum has been living at Speirs House for the last eighteen months. We moved her from another home which looked like a posh hotel but she was left in her room mostly with no interaction. The staff at Speirs House are like family mum is really well cared for, there are activities twice daily and
there are lovely volunteers coming into the home. The home is a good size only about 30 rooms where there is lots of interaction with the other residents and there is always lots of carers, nurses and other staff always around. The food is great and the residents get involved to have a say in what they want and the kitchen staff are wonderful. The residents have regular meetings also there are regular relatives meetings. The manager Feruna always has time to talk and is very happy and bubbly. I highly praise the staff and I am extremely happy to have found this gem of a home. Thank you all the staff

The staff have always looked after my aunt well and treat her and other patients as individuals. There is a wide range of activities and a good ratio if staff to residents. Management staff are responsive and everyone comes across as caring and genuinely interested in their work. From my observation
staff really try to give residents the best possible quality of life.

Since arriving at the Briars, my father has settled in really well and always appears happy and content with the care that is being provided to him. He particularly enjoys the range of food on offer. He doesn't really join in with activities, but feels happy and secure in the residence, and enjoys regular
visits from friend and family.

My husband has been at Speirs House for nearly three years. I can't imagine anywhere better for him. He is safe and well cared for. He had a very bad stroke 23 years ago and I can't look after him anymore. He is so well looked after that our times together are lovely.
The staff are absolutely fantastic
and the home is run really well by the manager and her staff.
Could not be happier with Speirs House!

My dad has been a resident at Tickford Abbey for 2 years and the care he receives here is outstanding.  All of the staff here are so kind, caring, respectful and friendly.  My dad has dementia and finds even simple tasks very difficult but the staff are so understanding and patient with him and nothing
is too much trouble.  There is a real friendly feel at Tickford and whenever we visit, we are always made to feel welcome.  There is always a member of staff available to speak to should we need to discuss anything regarding my dad.  There is great attention to detail in everything they do at Tickford to ensure the residents are happy here and to ensure their wellbeing, from the excellent nutritional and varied meal options to a great variety of activities so everyone is considered. Knowing that my dad is being so well cared for at Tickford gives our family great peace of mind. We would highly recommend.

First Class Care home - Where Care is more than just a word.
My father has been a resident at Tickford for over 12 months. He has both dementia and mental health issues. However, the staff really understand how to keep him engaged and cater for his complex needs. I haven't seen him so happy in
20 years. we decorated his room so he feels at home. This really is a unique place with staff that care. Awesome job Tickford

Mum has been at Harleston House for 3 1/2 years. Her care has been excellent through out as her condition has declined. All the carers have time to talk to mum so they can address her wishes and needs. Mum is less able to join some of the activities but is still included when she is interested, I am
very happy mum chose to live in Harleston House which has become her home.
