I went to Rose Cottage for 2 weeks respite after surgery for a new hip. Nothing but praise for my stay. Excellent caring staff. Clean pleasant room. Happy with food provided. I put on weight!! I did not take part in activities, apart from lovely church service, prefer to reading my room. However there was much going on, if I cared to join in.

This review reflects Mum's last 2 years at Orchards.

Our family were very happy with the care our mum received on the cherry floor of The Orchards. The seniors led by example, to care for all of her needs with great kindness and affection. She had the death that we'd all hoped for, in The Orchards. She was comfortable, free from pain or suffering, and still cracking jokes!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback during this difficult time, which I will pass onto the team.

It is always appreciated when family members take time to give feedback to our staff, as they do dedicate themselves to caring for others who can no longer do so for themselves on a daily basis....

When our mother moved to the Orchards 4 years ago we wanted to be certain that she would be able to stay there for the rest of her life, and we are so grateful that it became her home from home. Throughout her journey through the stages of dementia the staff provided a comfortable, caring and safe environment,. She was treated with dignity and compassion; the lovely carers becoming like family members to her.
Certain features stand out; the entertainment programme was wonderful; it was a joy to watch the elderly residents come to life as they participated in musical shows recalling their past.

As our mother's dementia advanced she was moved to the first floor , where the outstanding care, led by Krishna, was compassionate and loving. During our frequent visits we all became friends with the staff, and we were kept updated of our mother's condition at all times. True to her wishes, mum passed away peacefully at the Orchards , surrounded by the caregivers she had come to love.

Very friendly welcome staff. Quickly forming a relationship with my husband during the few hours he spends there well above aware of Alzheimers and how it effects people.

Unfortunatley only 2 people acomodated each day. So much need for carers to have respite knowing thay they are well looked after by responsible caring adults.

Review of The Orchards from Susan H (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
Dad went into respite care for two weeks. He stayed for the extra week. He was very well cared for during the full three weeks. He enjoyed the meals and snacks, I believe he even managed to put on a little extra weight!
All of the staff seemed lovely. One carer even took time to help me find a lost mobile phone.
Dad tripped and had a fall, I was reassured by the actions of the staff. An ambulance was called, he went into hospital where another health issue was diagnosed. If he had been at home I really don't know what would have happened.
Dad has complained about his own home being much too quiet, it took him a while to get used to chatter but that soon settled.

All in all, a very good experience, we hope he can return again for his next respite stay.

Reply from The Orchards, Team at The Orchards

Dear Susan, thank you very much for your considered and kind words. We are incredibly pleased that Dad found his respite stay enjoyable and supportive - we certainly loved having him with us, and very much look forward to his next stay. Our doors are open, and you are of course welcome to pop in for a visit any time. In fact, our Summer Fete is on 8 August - would be lovely to see you there!

My husband who has Alzheimer's attended the Day Care facility at Rose Cottage for about 3 years. He always enjoyed his time there as is very social. The staff were very friendly and helpful. He has only stopped going now as his health has deteriorated and he doesn't have the stamina. I would highly recommend the Day Care facility.

Recently my mother became too unwell to remain in her own home. I contacted The Orchards in Ely to enquire if they had a room for my mother to move in. The manager was so kind, very efficient and definitely went the extra mile for mum to go in very quickly. Since moving in the staff have been wonderfull to my mother and to me - they are all so kind and caring.

My husband has Alzheimer's and attended day care sessions at Rose Cottage for about a year. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and he always enjoyed his time there. He didn't remember being there before, so each visit was like the first time and he was a little unsure going in, but he always came out happy, in fact sometimes it was difficult to get him to leave! The staff were very caring and I would definitely recommend

My mother went for respite in Rose Cottage Broughton, and I cannot thank the staff enough, each and every one of you there has been absolutely brilliant, in activities, music, crafting, singing, and especially cared for. From the first moment I set foot in Rose Cottage it felt different to any of the other homes I visited when trying to find a home for mum. It was warm, friendly and welcoming and it hasn't disappointed in the 12 months since. All the staff are great and they seem to make a real effort with activities which mum enjoys.

Mum became a resident at Rose Cottage after being in hospital for over a month after a fall. She could no longer live independently, so we looked for a care home close by us. We were pointed in the direction of Rose Cottage, what a place! Staff were amazing, nothing to much trouble for them, friendly smiling faces. Mum was on a dementia unit, looked after by some wonderful staff. Cannot knock this place, everyone was brilliant. Sadly Mum passed away but she had been cared for by some wonderful people who are passionate about their job. Thank you so much, we will be eternally grateful for all your help and support during a very tough time.

Many thanks.

Mum is safe + appears content. This alone means a lot to us. She is dressed well and always clean. Staff always are happy and busy with activities for residents. She eats well and regularly. Drinks can sometimes be an issue as she needs prompting to drink. She loves, company but doesn't always want to mix and needs encouragement. Staff are excellent.

Mum has been a resident since early 2023, her care has been exceptional. From day one. Mum has full capacity and knows exactly who she wants, and when! This has caused a few little hiccups with one or two staff, however most of the staff/carers are very accommodating and love "gossiping" with mum. A lot of the carers have worked there a long while, and now their children also work there - its a lovely little family where they treat everyone as individuals. If you want a homely, family care home, this is the place for you.

I have both parents residing in RC one in each unit. The care delivered is excellent, carers have good rapport with all they encounter and standards are consistently good with all staff members. Communication is excellent and frequent across all mediums. I have every confidence that my parents receive high quality holistic care and myself and my family are always welcomed. I feel we work in partnership to achieve the best outcomes for my parents.

I get the very strong sense that the whole approach and ethos of Rose Cottage of both its management and its carers is one that has the care, safety and the well being of the residents as the very top priority.
The devoted and friendly caring staff really to do care about the residents and look after them with all the dignity and respect I would want to for my father.
It is good to know that my father is very well looked after, is safe and comfortable. Most important is what my father thinks and he says he is very happy and content at Rose Cottage. We both could not ask for more.

The only gripe is the very limited parking for resident visitors. The car park seems to be always full and rarely is there a space on site. That said, the village hall which is right next door has parking spaces.

Reply from Jennifer Dade, Registered Manager at Rose Cottage

Thank you so much for your review. We do have a rather small car park which is quite busy but we are working on a plan to try to increase the space and we are grateful to the village for the space in the village hall. Our residents happiness, care and safety are paramount and your kind words will be shared with the team as it means a lot to them to know your Dad is happy here.
