I have been so impressed with the care that she receives from staff and the communication that I receive from them regarding her wellbeing. The home is always spotless, and always smells nice ( quite different from some care homes that I viewed). It's homely and welcoming and Mum enjoys a wide range of thoughtful activities. It was a tough decision to find a care home for Mum, made in very difficult circumstances, but i am so glad i chose The Orchards.

Since my mum entered The Orchards I have been overwhelmed by the care she has received. We, as a family, have had a terrible year which culminated in mum needing full-time care. I have been kept fully informed from day one as to mum's needs, her medication or any problems. Mum is very comfortable and happy, despite always wanting to remain in her own home. I can now take care of my husband, go to work, or even have a day out without worrying about getting a phone call from mum because she has had another fall or is disorientated. The Orchards has literally rescued me and I can't praise it highly enough.

As our mother's dementia advanced she was moved to the first floor , where the outstanding care, led by Krishna, was compassionate and loving. During our frequent visits we all became friends with the staff, and we were kept updated of our mother's condition at all times. True to her wishes, mum passed away peacefully at the Orchards , surrounded by the caregivers she had come to love.

I first joined The Orchards as a carer after completing my Health and Care qualification, but I moved into activities because I realised it was the bit that I loved the most: listening to our lovely residents speaking about their lives. In our activities work, we have a 'life history' element where we ask residents to share more about their family, personal milestones and professional achievements, and it's a privilege to hear their stories. I also enjoy organising events like our popular summer fete - they help families nurture friendships with others at the home, and everybody has a lot of fun!
