Review of Torkington House from L R (Son of Resident) published on 28 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother has been at Torkington House for few years now with Alzheimer's, which she sadly developed relatively early. We did our best to care for her at home for as long as possible, but we eventually had to take the decision to find residential care. This was an extremely difficult decision to take... From the beginning of this process until today, Torkington House and the amazing staff have been incredibly helpful with their caring, professional and dignified treatment of my mother and the other residents. Before her admission she had the most terrible anxiety and agitation... She is now really happy and relaxed, all thanks to the staff here. It is a lovely place with a really happy and caring environment, I really enjoy visiting now. I really can't thank all of the staff there enough and highly recommend for anyone having a similar experience.

Reply from Esperanza Guidaven, Home Manager at Torkington House

It will never be an easy decision to move a loved one into care, especially when you have cared for her at home for as long as possible. It means a great deal to us to know that we have been able to support your Mum and your family throughout this journey. We are delighted to hear that your Mum is...

Overall Experience
Mum has been a resident of Torkington House for over 7 months. It was very difficult for our family when Mum had to go into care. We were very concerned that She would not settle. But the care and kindness shown by the management and staff has been fantastic. She is happy at Torkington House and the main reason for that is the quality and the kindness of the staff.
The management has been very helpful and keep us informed of every aspect of Mum's care. The activities are imaginative and very well run and Mum enjoys them immensely.
Mum has had some medical issues since moving to Torkington House, and these have been very well handled by the medical team at the home. We are extremely grateful for this. It means a lot to us as a family.
On every visit family and friends have commented on the friendliness of the staff.

In short, we are very happy that we chose Torkington House for Mum and would like to thank everyone who works there and cares for her.

Reply from Esperanza Guidaven, Home Manager at Torkington House

Review of Torkington House from Sue G (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My 84 year old mother, who has Alzheimer's, stayed at Torkington House for one week for respite care. My family and I were very happy with the care she received during her stay.

The staff were kind, gentle and caring, and we felt that my mother was treated with dignity and compassion. The food was good, and the care home was always clean, tidy and well maintained.

Unfortunately, my mother's short stay coincided with her birthday. The team went out of their way to make it special. Although she was only staying for one week, they baked her a lovely cake, sang Happy Birthday to her, and gave her a card and a gift. It was a thoughtful gesture that meant a great deal to us as a family.

We found Torkington to be a well run care home, and Esperanza, the manager, was great. Her communication with us was clear, helpful and reassuring which gave us peace of mind while our mother was in their care. If we require respite care again, we would have no hesitation in choosing Torkington House.

Wynei has cared for my mother over the 3 years she has been at Speirs House and has always been attentive to my mother's needs and polite to her making sure that mum is comfortable and has everything she needs. Wynei communicates to me any concerns that she feels I need to know about and so can deal with. Wynei is a real asset to the Care Team at Speirs House.

My mother has settled at Speirs House better than we could have imagined. She was made to feel part of the Speirs family from the moment she arrived. This is such a relief to us. Also, we feel part of the family too and are welcomed warmly and valued and considers the staff her friends. We simply could not ask for more.

Review of Torkington House from Mel W (Son of Resident) published on 19 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

I am so grateful to the staff at Torkington House for the wonderful care my Mum received during her last few years of life. Mum had always suffered with depression but during her time in the home she became happier than she had been in years because of the love that she received from staff that looked after her. She had never eaten very well and despite 2 years of me trying to find ways to get her interested in eating I was unsuccessful. The team at Torkington House managed to get her eating again and she gained weight and became physically much healthier. The love that they showed my Mum made me cry on a number of occasions and when Mum died, several team members were also in tears - you can tell that they do not see their work as only a job and they form real bonds with the residents. I really cannot speak highly enough of the home and the amazing team that work there - they made my Mum's last years happier and healthier and allowed her to pass with dignity and love. Thank you all.
