My mother has settled at Speirs House better than we could have imagined. She was made to feel part of the Speirs family from the moment she arrived. This is such a relief to us. Also, we feel part of the family too and are welcomed warmly and valued and considers the staff her friends. We simply could
not ask for more.

In the very early hours of Saturday morning the nurse was worried about mums breathing so called paramedics. We didn't want mum to go to hospital with a chest infection and doctor came and left a prescription.
Speirs collected medication and by 8am mum had started antibiotics. By 8.30am she was sat
in her chair and by 9am staff helped her eat breakfast and lunch at midday.
The staff came in just to check on mum and say hello as they started work or during the day and also to make sure we were alright too. It's only 36hr later so mum is still being watched and helped but because of their attitude and dedication mum is doing wonderfully

My mother has been at this wonderful care home for nearly a year. I'm extremely pleased with the way she is so well looked after in such a dignified caring safe and comfortable environment. The great staff are very professional and welcoming keeping me fully informed
This is very important as I have
my own health issues which restrict me from being able to visit as often as I would like.
Thank you all so much

Simply put the care afforded to mum at Speirs House has been nothing short of outstanding in the year and a half that she has been here. I live abroad and so my worry always is/was is mum going to be sufficiently cared for. The answer is emphatically yes. Lead by the manager and her very able team.
I am over the moon with the care. Keep going. Excellent staff.

My mum returned from hospital much less well, we prioritised getting her back to Speirs "her home" for final stages of her life with us and the staff who know her so well. Mum's care has been excellent, showing real empathy, care, respect and dignity.

My mum has been living at Speirs House for the last eighteen months. We moved her from another home which looked like a posh hotel but she was left in her room mostly with no interaction. The staff at Speirs House are like family mum is really well cared for, there are activities twice daily and
there are lovely volunteers coming into the home. The home is a good size only about 30 rooms where there is lots of interaction with the other residents and there is always lots of carers, nurses and other staff always around. The food is great and the residents get involved to have a say in what they want and the kitchen staff are wonderful. The residents have regular meetings also there are regular relatives meetings. The manager Feruna always has time to talk and is very happy and bubbly. I highly praise the staff and I am extremely happy to have found this gem of a home. Thank you all the staff

My husband has been at Speirs House for nearly three years. I can't imagine anywhere better for him. He is safe and well cared for. He had a very bad stroke 23 years ago and I can't look after him anymore. He is so well looked after that our times together are lovely.

My sister has been at Speirs House for three and a half years. It is both a nursing and care home. The staff are all regular, important for continuity of care for all residents. My sister needs nursing care after a serious stroke. She is non verbal, the staff know her needs, she's extremely well cared
for. Although she cannot join in, she is included in many of the activities, important for her well being. Speirs House is spacious, plenty of areas to enjoy whether individually, or socially. The ensuite bedrooms all have a view, it is a happy and comfortable place, it is home to my sister.

My mother was in need of a hospital admission in the last months. When mum became unwell we were immediately notified, the nursing staff listened to our wishes and reviewed the situation as necessary. I felt our family wishes were prioritised and we worked as a team to enable mum to have the best care
for her individual needs. On return from hospital mum's care has been excellent. I can feel completely at ease when I leave the home knowing she will be cared for beautifully.

Speirs House is a well-led care home. The staff are welcoming and caring towards the residents and the family. Meal time is well led with a choice of meal and served in a calm dining room. My uncle came into Speirs House initially as a respite patient. Manager saw his needs to be admitted here as his condition was not favourable. He had a bed sore which was quite deep and staff at Speirs House did a sterling job of making sure it healed completely. He was taken outside in his chair for
some fresh air and he seemed a lot brighter and happier. His health was improving tremendously as all the staff at Speirs did their level best to give my uncle a good and respectful quality of life. They exercise their duty of care to the utmost. As a family, we are ever so grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.780)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.780) out of 10 for Speirs House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.780 for Speirs House is calculated as follows: ( (328 Excellents x 5) + (81 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 414 Ratings = 4.78
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Speirs House is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
