Chose Speirs for my step-mother after visiting five other homes in the area. It has a calm atmosphere and wide corridors. The rooms are a reasonable size but importantly have lots of natural light and lovely views into the surrounding gardens and courtyards. An additional plus is that all areas are
on the ground floor so no need for stairs or lifts. One negative, no guest room available for visitors to rent but I gather this might change in the future (we do not live locally).

I spent 3 months at Speirs House and felt safe here. The staff were always helpful and solicitous. It was a real haven coming from the hospital and put me on my feet. I cannot praise Speirs House enough. The reassuring help will make me fully able to walk again. I wish the staff of Speirs House all
possible success.

Spiers House is a very caring home. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. My mother is wheelchair bound and she has been kept extremely well and any problems are very quickly relayed to the family. The home has allowed us to have an early Christmas with our mother and 2 family birthday parties,
even providing cake and food. We think we are very lucky that she is in such a good home.

A truly lovely home. Wonderful caring staff who go to great lengths to meet the needs of residents which included my dad in the last weeks of his life. He was made comfortable as possible and we confidently left him after every visit knowing that his needs would be met. We were dealt in a caring sensitive
way throughout Dad's stay until he passed away.

My friend's health had been deteriorating and finding a suitable new care home was not easy. After a few days, she began to settle.
All rooms are on the ground floor overlooking the lovely garden, there are many patio areas, sitting/activity rooms and a library.
The staff are friendly, caring and
encouraging. Soon she began joining in activities, eating with the other residents, enjoying a musical entertainment etc., things she had not done for a long time. She began to smile again.
This house has become her home in a short time, she is making friends. The staff are always welcoming and friendly, they take time to talk to the residents and their families helping them to settle in. There are always staff around the home, at weekends and in the week. I am delighted with the 24-hour nursing care and I am very pleased that I moved my friend here.
I would definitely recommend this home having looked and visited many in my search for somewhere suitable.
Thank you Speirs House.

My aunt and also my cousin have been resident here for about 5 years. The atmosphere is warm and peaceful. The manager and the staff are very welcoming and friendly, making it a lovely homely place. The catering staff provide an excellent variety of menus and are sensitive to individual likes and dietary
needs. The staff all work as an effective team.

Manager, nursing staff, carers and auxiliaries always friendly, courteous and respectful to residents and relatives alike.

Care given in an efficient and quietly respectful manner, voices are not raised and residents are never patronised. The decor is generally good and atmosphere pleasant. Residents

seem happy. The food is very good and served beautifully. Kitchen staff go out of their way to accommodate tastes and preferences. My aunt is comfortable and well looked after.

My mother has been a resident for six years at this small friendly home. The small team of both permanent and peripatetic staff are very committed and provide very good care. The management is now excellent and any concerns, worries or suggestions are listened to sensitively and taken on board.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.794)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.794) out of 10 for Speirs House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.794 for Speirs House is calculated as follows: ( (392 Excellents x 5) + (86 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 485 Ratings = 4.794
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Speirs House is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
