My mother's stay has been a happy one, given the circumstances in which she finds herself at Speirs House. Staff have been good to both Mum and her visitors. A small detail but the lady who does tea/coffee trolley is always friendly and happy to offer a cup of tea. And care staff happy to help Mum when
I ask them.

My mother has been happily settled at Speirs House for more than three years.
She has been well cared for by staff many of whom have been there for some years. The home is well laid out on one floor, light and airy with easy access to the gardens.

My aunt has been resident for 7 months and has settled in well once she accepted she could no longer remain independent. She is in a lovely room overlooking a pretty courtyard garden which she so appreciates. I appreciate that she is respected for who she is and her dignity is maintained. The staff
are good at encouraging mental stimulation through its daily activities and they also help to maintain physical movement too. The food always seems nourishing and good variety and there is flexibility as to where the residents take their meals.
I would like to see a little more spiritual input.

My mother has been at this care home for nearly two years and has had the best care possible. The staff are kind and caring and attend to her every need. She attends activities every day which keeps her mind and body active. She is seen by a physio regularly who is able to assess her weaknesses and
give exercises for her to practice. She has frequent massages which she loves and is also therapeutic. The staff spend time with her, listening and responding in a positive manner. She is seen weekly by a Doctor and has on a few occasions been admitted to hospital for treatment. I would highly recommend this facility.

Spiers House has been so accommodating and caring towards both my clients and have always welcomed us to come in at any time, even just for a coffee and a chat. Spiers House have also kept us up to date with all relevant information. When my clients passed away, they really took care of my clients'
family. The staff are truly wonderful and could not do any more for us. Thank you for being superstars.

My father has been a resident of Speirs House since July this year. The care that he receives is excellent. He is always clean and content when we visit. All staff members are friendly and make a point of chatting to us and updating us when appropriate. His room is bright and clean, overlooking the
garden. He eats everything he is given, so the food must be good!

My father spent his final two weeks receiving palliative care at Speirs House. The home is very pleasant, rooms are a good size and there are plenty of communal spaces. Everything was clean and in good order. Most importantly, every member of staff we spoke to seemed kind and caring, and all had time
to speak to us. We could visit at any time of day or night. Overall, we were very happy with the care Dad received at Speirs House and would happily recommend it.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.794)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.794) out of 10 for Speirs House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 42 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.794 for Speirs House is calculated as follows: ( (392 Excellents x 5) + (86 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 485 Ratings = 4.794
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Speirs House is based on 42 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 42 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
