Tickford Abbey is a calming, comfortable and happy care home that delivers excellent residential and specialist dementia care in two separate and self-contained areas with their own bathrooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and lounge areas.

The home is a lovely marriage of old and new of traditional and contemporary. From the outside, it is a majestic listed building with stunning grounds and gardens complete with pond and all-weather decking area. Inside it is full of the character and charm you would expect, when you see the outside, but due to the full and sympathetic renovation work, it has all of the facilities you would expect in a modern quality care home.

There are a number of bedrooms with sizes and styles to suit everybody’s personal tastes and care needs. With opportunities to really stamp your personality and style on the rooms, they quickly feel like home to new residents. This settling in period is made even more positive with the attentive staff and existing residents making sure everyone has a really special first day.

As well as stimulating activities, Tickford Abbey's good links with the community outside the care home, ensure the residents can look forward to regular interesting visits to the home from a whole host of speakers and entertainers.

Residents at Tickford Abbey enjoy the no-nonsense home cooked food that the generation has always sworn by. Traditional food that the residents recognise and have eaten and cooked all their lives is on the menu with enough variety and choice to satisfy everyone. As with everything else in the home, resident feedback is essential to the menu planning ensuring that they are satisfied every day.

My father has been a resident at Tickford for several months, and we feel he's very well taken care of. His room is very comfortable, and if he's not in a communal area, staff regularly check in and offer a cup of tea. He really enjoys the many and varied activities at the care home, the TV room, cinema
screenings and the extensive patio and grounds.
Having a loved one with Alzheimer's isn't easy, but whenever we have any concerns, the staff are always available to talk through any issues and help Dad. That gives the family real peace of mind, fully believing that Tickford has his best interests at heart.

My dad has been a resident at Tickford Abbey for 2 years and the care he receives here is outstanding.  All of the staff here are so kind, caring, respectful and friendly.  My dad has dementia and finds even simple tasks very difficult but the staff are so understanding and patient with him and nothing
is too much trouble.  There is a real friendly feel at Tickford and whenever we visit, we are always made to feel welcome.  There is always a member of staff available to speak to should we need to discuss anything regarding my dad.  There is great attention to detail in everything they do at Tickford to ensure the residents are happy here and to ensure their wellbeing, from the excellent nutritional and varied meal options to a great variety of activities so everyone is considered. Knowing that my dad is being so well cared for at Tickford gives our family great peace of mind. We would highly recommend.

First Class Care home - Where Care is more than just a word.
My father has been a resident at Tickford for over 12 months. He has both dementia and mental health issues. However, the staff really understand how to keep him engaged and cater for his complex needs. I haven't seen him so happy in
20 years. we decorated his room so he feels at home. This really is a unique place with staff that care. Awesome job Tickford

My mum has always received excellent care from all the staff at Tickford Abbey. Mum has lived at Tickford Abbey for past 7 years and the level of care has always been consistent. The staff are always friendly and welcoming whenever I visit and I am always kept informed.

The home itself is always

clean and well maintained.

I honestly can't speak highly enough of this care home. The staff are absolutely wonderful, kind, patient, and genuinely caring. They always take the time to help, and nothing ever feels like too much trouble.
My dad has dementia and, at times, he can be very stubborn, rude, and difficult to communicate
with. Despite this, the staff handle every situation with remarkable patience and understanding. They always manage to calm him down, which takes real skill and compassion. Knowing he's treated with dignity even during difficult moments gives me enormous peace of mind.
The meals are excellent, with plenty of choice, and the food is always tasty, healthy, and well prepared.
What really stands out is the communication. The team regularly phones to check in and asks if there are any issues or improvements I'd like to suggest. That level of openness and care makes a huge difference.
I'm extremely grateful for everything they do and would highly recommend this care home

I could not be any happier with my mum's care, the whole team are polite ,curtious and helpful and informative.
Tickford Abbey has a friendly, homely feeling . There is always something going on and staff are always aware of their residents, popping their heads round doors saying hi and enquiring after
needs ,which includes tea and cake, most enjoyable.

I am very impressed with Tickford Abbey in many ways. I have experienced care homes in the past, but Tickford Abbey is more than a care home. I've never seen so many activities, all very well organised and so varied. Dad is always busy doing something, where as before he was bored and lonely. It has
brought him back to life in so many ways. The staff interaction is also appreciated as dad really enjoys this. He has become sociable again. It is also a relief to see him eating well again. The meals are so good, I often joke with him that he's in a 5* hotel. A huge thanks to the staff of Tickford Abbey as it is the people who make a care home and you are all appreciated. Not only do you take care of dad well, but your support for the family also helps on this difficult journey for everyone. Thank you!

I'm really pleased with the overall care my mother receives and I'm kept well informed.
The activities within the home are varied and in particular the garden party which is held twice a year is amazing and a great opportunity for friends and family to gather.
Food is varied and nutritional and the
home is always clean.
The grounds are beautiful and well tended.

We cannot speak highly enough of the incredible care and compassion shown to my mother-in-law during a 6 month stay at Tickford Abbey. From the moment she arrived, the staff made a genuine effort to get to know her as an individual and she settled quickly.

We were impressed by the amazing range of

activities and events for the residents. From arts and crafts to music sessions and outings, there was always something happening! Plus, being able to see these activities on Tickford's wonderful social media page meant so much to us as family members who live some distance away.

The care and support provided by the home manager and all of the staff was outstanding, particularly during the more challenging moments. Their patience, empathy, and understanding was always evident particularly helping us all navigate the waters of an Alzheimer's diagnosis. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone there.
We wholeheartedly recommend Tickford to anyone seeking exceptional care for their loved one.

Father went into Tickford Abbey for 2 weeks to recuperate. After 2 weeks Father was looking more healthier and happier than he has for years and wanted to stay full time, which the staff are helping make happen. This isn't surprising, due to from the minute my Father and I walked into this wonderful
Home, the staff made him feel like a guest not a patient. You can tell the staff enjoy their work and being here by the way they are with all the residents and the way they treat each other, it is wonderful to see and made me feel we have done right by intrusting them with Father. I can not thank them enough for the turn around in my Father's physical and mental heath, if I had not seen this with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. Whenever we go to see my Father we are made to feel welcome. Father always now has something new to tell me in what he been up to, from getting the questions right in the quiz, to see the pony's! Happy home, happy Father, happy life! Thank you.

With a spacious room overlooking the beautiful gardens for our dad the atmosphere here is more in keeping with a nice hotel than a standard care home. The manager and team have taken the time to assess the rapidly changing needs of our dad and advise and support us (his daughters). The staff are amazing,
very caring, always friendly and respectful. Visitors and family are always welcomed. A lot of thought is put into the many stimulating activities offered encouraging interests and interaction for the patients. Similar attention is given regarding meals, with nice menu cards issued and offering good home cooking. 'Famileo' is the newest concept offered where family members can post photos and send messages which their loved one receives fortnightly as a personal newspaper. Our dad appears to have settled in to the new surroundings remarkably quickly and if I have any regrets it is that we couldn't persuade him to make this decision at a time when he would have benefited from it more.

As a family, we feel there could be no better place for my uncle to be cared for than at Tickford Abbey. The staff are always cheerful and available. They pay attention to the small things that make a big difference to each resident. The smaller scale of the home and the non-profit ethos are really
felt. The place is full of warmth, music, colour and cheer. There's always some activity or another in progress or coming up on the planner. The old abbey building and the gardens are full of character. A warm and caring atmosphere that makes you smile.

We cannot speak highly enough about Tickford Abbey. The manager and her team take great care of our dad. They are caring, supportive and kind and have taken the time to get to know him and us, his family. They supported Dad perfectly with his two recent cataract operations and were on hand to take him
to a blood test when we couldn’t make it. He is treated at all times by everyone with dignity and respect. They go above and beyond in every way. They put on an excellent Coronation party and a Birthday party for one of the residents, this last weekend was lovely, both with fabulous food and entertainment in a huge marquee on the lawn, a lovely setting with lovely people. We recommend Tickford Abbey 100%.

Mum unfortunately had to go into respite care the week before COVID lockdown, so sadly respite became permanent. It was a really hard time for everyone, the home did an amazing job of protecting and caring for residents whilst under such huge pressure, with poor support. We were overjoyed when we could
visit, my first visit with my sister was something we'd been really worried about, and built up over time- we needn't have worried. It was clear that, whilst her condition has worsened, she's well looked after and happy, had bonded with staff members, and was comfortable where she was. It's lovely to see the same staff each time; care often has a high staff turnover, having a negative impact on residents. The staff are always lovely, her face lights up when she sees her favourites! I love to see the activities online, it's reassuring to see residents having fun and well cared for when I'm too far away to visit. What we're seeing gives us confidence in Mum's care- thanks for all you do.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.856)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.856) out of 10 for Tickford Abbey is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.931 for Tickford Abbey is calculated as follows: ( (189 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.931
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tickford Abbey is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
