Tickford Abbey is a calming, comfortable and happy care home that delivers excellent residential and specialist dementia care in two separate and self-contained areas with their own bathrooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and lounge areas.

The home is a lovely marriage of old and new of traditional and contemporary. From the outside, it is a majestic listed building with stunning grounds and gardens complete with pond and all-weather decking area. Inside it is full of the character and charm you would expect, when you see the outside, but due to the full and sympathetic renovation work, it has all of the facilities you would expect in a modern quality care home.

There are a number of bedrooms with sizes and styles to suit everybody’s personal tastes and care needs. With opportunities to really stamp your personality and style on the rooms, they quickly feel like home to new residents. This settling in period is made even more positive with the attentive staff and existing residents making sure everyone has a really special first day.

As well as stimulating activities, Tickford Abbey's good links with the community outside the care home, ensure the residents can look forward to regular interesting visits to the home from a whole host of speakers and entertainers.

Residents at Tickford Abbey enjoy the no-nonsense home cooked food that the generation has always sworn by. Traditional food that the residents recognise and have eaten and cooked all their lives is on the menu with enough variety and choice to satisfy everyone. As with everything else in the home, resident feedback is essential to the menu planning ensuring that they are satisfied every day.

My mum has been living at Tickford Abbey for the past two months. During this time she has settled in really well.
I have definitely noticed a change with her wellbeing.
All of the staff there are always very helpful and polite. When we visit my mum the staff are always very welcoming.
There is a
good range of activities to do which my mum enjoys participating in.
Tickford Abbey has a very homely feel to it rather than being like a hospital.
I would definitely recommend Tickford Abbey to anybody looking for care.

My mother went into this care home in April 2017. I have always found most of the staff very helpful and friendly towards myself and my mother. Her key worker is very good and I can feel I can talk to her about matters regarding mum and vice versa.

My mum is well looked after, although they could make sure she has her teeth in and hands (under the nails) are grubby. Staff are good and the home has a friendly atmosphere.

Our father has been in residence for 6 months. He is in a wonderful old building that has a feel of a hotel. This helps on visits as it feels less clinical and has an appeal (something you don't get when visiting other care homes). Although it's facilities could do with updating, it's staff have been
very good and look after our father to a high standard.

My parent was at this care home for some time and was happy here and made good friends with staff and other residents. We chose the home because of the location and the room which overlooked wonderful lawns. Although very busy the staff found time to stop and say hello to the family when we visited
and we were kept up to date with changes. I recommend the home to others.

Mum has settled in well (since July 2015). Facilities are good and relevant to her needs. Staff keep me well informed of mums progress/health etc and are always kind, polite and respectful. There are plenty of rooms where the residents can go/socialise. Residents are given the opportunity to go our
into Newport Pagnell, if appropriate. Being a smallish care home gives it quite a family "home" feel.

My mother-in-law has been in Tickford Abbey for eleven months now. When she first went into care she was suffering from vascular dementia and made worse by excessive drinking. The way which the staff dealt with this has been exemplary. She was not denied alcohol but given small amounts with meals. All
the staff are extremely friendly and caring. My mother-in-law is well looked after, clean and well fed. She looks much better and mentally is in a much better place. We are pleased and grateful for the care given to her.

Mum has been in Tickford for years. She will be 97 after Christmas. She has always been treated with care and dignity. We sign her care plan and are contacted if there are any concerns. As the years have passed she as been helped in every way, including anything she fancies to eat. We had to go to hospital
thee months ago, a small stroke. I went with her and when the ambulance brought us back to Tickford, she kept saying "I'm home". She was greeted at the door by staff and she blew them all kisses. I was in tears to see how she feels at home and loves each one. Mum can be stubborn in many ways, but they gently talk to her, and she is soon smiling. The management of the home and care I would and have recommended.

My mother is a long standing resident whose dementia has developed significantly whilst at Tickford Abbey. She is well-known to the very caring staff who work really hard to help her enjoy the best quality of life she can experience. She is well cared for, involved whenever possible in the variety of
activities provided, and carefully monitored to ensure mood change or any other signs to indicate her state of mind are always under scrutiny. I would very happily recommend this residential care home to anyone who needs to know their relative will be safe, well cared for, well fed, entertained and encouraged to continue to take an active part in life.

Excellent care home with very attentive staff towards my mother, the home is always very clean and the staff are professional. I am so glad I came across this home when I was looking for my mother and decided it was the right one for her, it certainly was. As my mother gets older and needs more and
more care, the staff continue to impress and the care actually gets better as it gets more.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.856) out of 10 for Tickford Abbey is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.931 for Tickford Abbey is calculated as follows: ( (189 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.931
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Tickford Abbey is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been at Tickford Abbey for over 6 years. I feel privileged to work in such a beautiful historic building. I love spending time with the residents and hearing all about their life stories. It’s the best part of my job. When I’m not at work I enjoy running and spending time with my family.
