Grosvenor House is a leading not-for-profit retirement home in the seaside town of St Leonards-on-Sea. Rated Good by the CQC (October 2017), the home is a converted hotel offering person-centred residential and respite care.

Part of Greensleeves Care, a UK care charity focused on people rather than profit, Grosvenor House provides award-winning support, beginning with flexible trial stays to ease the transition into care. Residents are also reassured by Greensleeves’ Home for Life promise, ensuring no one is asked to leave if their funds run out.

Overlooking the coastline, many bedrooms enjoy sea views, and its location near Hastings and Bexhill allows residents to enjoy cultural attractions such as Hastings Contemporary Museum and Alexandra Park. The 21 large, fully furnished bedrooms include ensuite wet rooms, and residents are encouraged to personalise their spaces with pictures, ornaments, or small furniture to feel at home.

The home features an onsite hair and beauty salon, encouraging residents to look and feel their best. Daily activities and social events offer opportunities to try new hobbies, pursue familiar interests, and foster friendships. Communal facilities such as the patio, lounges, and shop create a vibrant, supportive environment.

Mealtimes are central to life at Grosvenor House. The in-house chef caters to individual tastes and dietary needs, ensuring dining is both enjoyable and inclusive.

The care team brings extensive experience, led by the Registered Manager, who has served for over a decade alongside a longstanding team. The Family Liaison Manager provides further support, welcoming families and guiding them through the process of choosing care.

Grosvenor House’s trusted and dedicated team ensures every resident feels valued and supported, from the moment they begin considering care through every stage of their journey.

The excellent staff at this home go above and beyond to meet my mum's needs. They are very caring and loving in their approach and visited my mum in hospital when she was admitted recently. All the staff have work extremely hard to meet my mum's care needs. She has communication difficulties following
a stroke and the whole team has worked together to provide a caring, homely environment and enable her to take part in all the home's many activities.
I would thoroughly recommend this care home to anyone looking for good quality, person centered care. It has good facilities and is part of Greensleeves Care which operates a number of care homes on a not for profit basis, so you can be confident that care of your loved one is the top priority. There is also the reassurance that Grosvenor House is part of a larger group of care homes, and has a Good CQC rating.

Mum has been living at Grosvenor for over 7 years now and we have only experienced kind and considerate care. Nothing is too much trouble for the brilliant staff and we are always kept very well informed of how Mum is. This is invaluable to us as we live 150 miles away.
Mum's health has deteriorated
and she is now bed bound but the care is still so very caring and loving and they are doing all they can to make her comfortable.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Grosvenor to anyone.
Thank you all so much for everything you do. You are a great team.

Through times of good health and when it has not been so bright, my mother-in-law has always received kind, sensitive and loving care. As family, we have also benefited from all the management and care team thinking of our needs too. From catering to housekeeping and from the care team to entertainment,
we are so pleased we selected Grosvenor House as the home from home.

Mum has been a resident at the Grosvenor for 2 years. She chose the Grosvenor because her friend was also a resident and had been very happy here. During her stay mum has been treated with kindness and dignity. She says the food is always excellent. The views from her room are fabulous, overlooking
the south coast. The care home is clean and well run. The residents needs and wishes are prioritised. The staff are very kind and friendly. Many thanks to Mandy and her staff.

My nan has been here since October. Despite her reservations regarding making the difficult move to a home she has been very pleasantly surprised. She tells me every visit how happy she is and that I couldn't have found her anywhere nicer! This is a massive relief to me! All the staff are amazing and
really do care. Nans room is very comfortable and spacious. She says the food is lovely and that they are always eating! A big thank you to Mandy and her team.

My mother had been in Grosvenor House for four years. In this last year, she suffered ill health. First with Covid at the beginning of the year which we didn't expect her to survive at 97 but with the excellent care of the staff she recovered to enjoy the activities and outings around the garden. Mum
didn't really recover her appetite and slowly declined until eventually she could not eat or drink and was on palliative care. The staff were amazing and ensured she was comfortable at all times, treating her with dignity and respect even when she was unresponsive. Calling in medical staff to ensure she was pain-free. In the last days of Mum's life, I received incredible support from the home, nothing was too much trouble. I stayed with Mum for three days and nights. I couldn't recommend Grosvenor House more, brilliant.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseIt has been a pleasure and an honour to have Mum stay with us and getting to know you and the family. At Grosvenor, we strive to give the best personal, individual care to our residents and I am overwhelmed by the comments you have made. The support you have given the home has been amazing and we thank you for that.

The is always a warm and friendly welcome from senior staff at reception and a willingness to discuss any issues or concerns. Whenever staff come into mom-in-law's room, they greet her with a smile and kindness, including the cleaners, laundry and maintenance staff as well as carers and she is always
treated with dignity and respect.

My mother is well cared for and the staff communicate with her and are always aware of her needs. The home always appears clean and tidy and the dining area is well laid out and tables are easily accessible. Management staff can be readily available to answer any queries or problems with my mother's
care. There are problems at times with staffing and responses can be a little slow, a problem it would seem to be also in other care homes. A single left to serve all floors at times also seems rather inadequate.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseThank you for your kind review, I am delighted that you feel your mother is well cared for at Grosvenor House and that staff are always aware of her needs. I’m also pleased that you have found the home accessible and well presented. I am sorry that you feel staff response times have been slow on occasion - I will certainly look into this for you. I’m sure there have been times where the team have been busy but would like to reassure you that we are very lucky at Grosvenor House to have a fully staffed team, and pride ourselves on never having to run with less staff than required. Regarding the lift, we have explored the possibility of installing a second one, but unfortunately the building is unable to accommodate another. As ever, I’m here to discuss any queries you might have.

My mother has been a resident for five years. She always looked well cared for and content. The rooms and communal areas are always clean and odourless (not always the case in other homes I have visited).
The staff are friendly and approachable, very easy to talk to. Mym always praises the care she
receives and appreciates the time they spend to chat to her.
Activities are well-organised and they are encouraged to join in. Mum became a little reclusive last year but with a chat with the staff, they encouraged her to join in which helped her immensely.

Grosvenor House has provided excellent care for my dad. He has been there for 3 years and staff have enabled him to remain active and maintain his hobbies of gardening, jigsaws and scrabble, this has been so important him. He has been looked after by a team of caring, patient staff who have been brilliant
and I owe them a very big thank you.

My mother has been at Grosvenor House for nearly a year now and is extremely contented and relaxed with her surroundings and with the care she receives from every level of the care team, from the manager down. Increasing mobility issues had made her almost a recluse, but now she has a range of activities
brought to her, whilst access to the park outside the door also provides her with a safe space in which to take herself for a walk and enjoy some fresh air. There will always be issues at this time of life, but each has been dealt with promptly and with great kindness.

Grosvenor House has been a very positive experience for my mother. The support and care she has received whilst living there has been amazing. She has been rejuvenated whilst living there and leaving to relocate to be closer to family was an extremely hard decision to make. The staff from the top down

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.655)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.655) out of 10 for Grosvenor House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.730 for Grosvenor House is calculated as follows: ( (154 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 204 Ratings = 4.73
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grosvenor House is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
