Reviews

9.1 Grosvenor House has a Review Score of 9.1 (9.144)

The Review Score of 9.1 (maximum of 10) for Grosvenor House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 14 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Grosvenor House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.235 for Grosvenor House is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (66 Goods x 4) + (26 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.235

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.909 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grosvenor House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 6.6 positive Reviews (33 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 6 Reviews ÷ 6.6 Target = 0.909

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My mother became a resident at short notice after she had a stroke following my father's death.
The staff were very professional, but also kind and helpful. The care provided enabled my mother to feel safe at a difficult time. It is amazing how quickly she has settled into her new home. Staff have helped her to feel positive about the future and ensured that she feels valued and able to continue to make a contribution to society. We are very pleased to have found Grosvenor House.

My mother moved into Grosvenor House in May 2017 due to not coping looking after herself anymore. We were allowed to take a lot of my mother's furniture which helped her settle in as her room felt like home with family photos on the walls, her own bed, lounge unit and her settee! She has settled in very, well finding all the staff caring and very friendly.

I came for 2 weeks respite having lost my husband in February 2017. We had both been to Grosvenor House on many occasions entertaining with handbells. My eyesight was not good and various other health problems, I have decided to take up permanent residence. I also have several friends here.

My brother and I found ourselves needing to find a care home for our dad, who had just turned 90 years old. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found Grosvenor House. It is situated on the sea front with magnificent views of the channel to the east and towards Beachy Head to the west. Dad has been there now for 3 months and both he and we are more than happy with his new home. The manager and all the staff, without exception, are always cheerful and attentive and the food is of a very high standard. The rooms are very comfortable and there is frequent entertainment arranged for the residents.

The agency staff left a lot to be desired and unfortunately I had a lot of agency staff during my stay. Many of them were not trained and did not understand English.
The regular staff were in the main, kind, considerate and very helpful.

I have always thought that the home has a very welcoming feel to it and I have been particularly impressed with the nurse/manager/owner and the care he showed the resident when I had a long discussion with him.

I can only speak from limited experience over the past few months. During this period I have been well looked after. On the whole the food is satisfactory and the staff very helpful and courteous.

My father is very happy at the care home but there are some issues which are a little worrying:
1) No sufficient attention paid to his 2 hearing aids so that on a number of occasions he has not had one hearing aid working and as he is profoundly hard of hearing he cannot participate in anything.
- Have been some problems regarding his 2 pairs of glasses so that he could not use them.
- In a recent residents meeting no thought had been given to those with hearing problems so that my father heard nothing.
2. A recent huge increase of >10% was not properly or fully explained and when I insisted on an explanation the facts were not disclosed.

Anna Kleinman, Marketing & Communications Manager at Grosvenor House responded to this review on 11 Jul 2016:

New Home Manager at Grosvenor House contacted the relative regarding the feedback left by the relative and found out that this comment relates to the previous management team (who no longer work at Grosvenor House) and since then all the issues mentioned in the comment have been addressed.

New management just taken over, many plans to improve standards. Too early to say yet but it's looking very promising.

After living by myself in a bungalow for 30 years it takes some adjusting to life in a care home, this is the only home I have been in so I cannot give a view through experience of the home.

Grosvenor House is top of our list for the understanding it shows of the elderly, the activities, the garden and close proximity to the seafront! Mom had been there for six years before her demise. They are inclusive of all residents and the activities are second to none. They also make full use of the lovely garden. The stimulation, I feel sure enhanced her quality of life. They looked after Mom so well. I could turn up on the doorstep any time, they were so friendly and welcoming, always made time and a cuppa for you.
I am full of gratitude to the staff I never had to worry about Mom. I knew she was in such good hands. The staff are brilliant and they are on to any matter of concern immediately. Mom was always nicely dressed, hair done too. She was never lonely or bored, but could still have her quiet time if she wished. I have saved many photos of my Mom looking involved. Mom was always happy, but she did enjoy a good grumble too! This is a CARE home in the true sense of the word.

I stayed at Grosvenor House for 3 weeks respite care while my husband/ carer was abroad dealing with a medical emergency concerning another member of the family. I was made to feel very welcome and was well cared for throughout my stay. Administration of my medication relating to a number of conditions including diabetes (insulin dependant) was very carefully monitored and supervised. All the staff were very considerate and helpful.

My husband was accommodated in a well furnished room with all facilities. He was very impressed with the standard of care and food. All staff are friendly, caring and attentive. We have no hesitation with recommending Grosvenor House to our friends who may require respite at permanent care in the future. Might I suggest day respite to be considered by your company for carers like myself who occasionally need to socialise e.g. lunch on a day out with friends and can relax knowing our changes are being well cared for. Also a pressure mat would be useful for patients to be available during the night if they are immobile.
