Grosvenor House is a leading not-for-profit retirement home in the seaside town of St Leonards-on-Sea. Rated Good by the CQC (October 2017), the home is a converted hotel offering person-centred residential and respite care.

Part of Greensleeves Care, a UK care charity focused on people rather than profit, Grosvenor House provides award-winning support, beginning with flexible trial stays to ease the transition into care. Overlooking the coastline, many bedrooms enjoy sea views, and its location near Hastings and Bexhill allows residents to enjoy cultural attractions such as Hastings Contemporary Museum and Alexandra Park. The 21 large, fully furnished bedrooms include ensuite wet rooms, and residents are encouraged to personalise their spaces with pictures, ornaments, or small furniture to feel at home.

The home features an onsite hair and beauty salon, encouraging residents to look and feel their best. Daily activities and social events offer opportunities to try new hobbies, pursue familiar interests, and foster friendships. Communal facilities such as the patio, lounges, and shop create a vibrant, supportive environment.

Mealtimes are central to life at Grosvenor House. The in-house chef caters to individual tastes and dietary needs, ensuring dining is both enjoyable and inclusive.

The care team brings extensive experience, led by the Registered Manager, who has served for over a decade alongside a longstanding team. The Family Liaison Manager provides further support, welcoming families and guiding them through the process of choosing care.

Grosvenor House’s trusted and dedicated team ensures every resident feels valued and supported, from the moment they begin considering care through every stage of their journey.

We are very lucky to have been given a place in this care home. The staff are kind, caring and extremely hard working. The management is always available; they respond quickly to any query and go out of their way to be helpful and supportive. It is a pity I cannot use names as there are several members
of staff and management who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. My thanks to everyone concerned. My family and I are extremely grateful.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseOur motto is to always have an open-door policy, so concerns or queries can be dealt with without delay where possible. We are not only here to care for and support your loved ones but to support your family as well. Thank you, Lois, for a glowing review and I will pass your comments on to the staff.

Grosvenor House is a wonderful care home. All the staff are extremely friendly, caring and very helpful. Every day there is always some sort of activity going on from baking cakes, knitting club, bingo, chair aerobics and a lot more. I have always found the manager’s door is always open for any concerns
you have or just for a little chat. My mum was very happy there, I would be happy to recommend it to anyone - you won’t be disappointed!
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseIt was an absolute pleasure to care for Mum. She was a lovely lady, full of character, we miss her dearly. May I say what a pleasure it has been to have known you and the family. A family to be proud of.

My mum moved into Grosvenor House after several hospital stays. It has taken her a while to settle in but the staff always keep us well informed and if a doctor visits they let us know the outcome immediately.
She has a lovely room overlooking the bowling green with sea views. The rooms are well decorated,
very clean and tidy. The staff are all very friendly, kind and caring.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseThank you so much for a lovely review. We are glad Mum is enjoying her stay with us and may we say, it is our pleasure having her here too.

From the very first meeting, the team at Grosvenor House welcomed my nan with open arms and made her transition into care the best it could have been. Nan is happy and comfy and she's made new friends and life seems a lot kinder. I am very grateful to all the staff members who invest so much in the
care of their residents. It was great having Nan at home with us on Christmas Day, we couldn't have done that without your help. Many thanks!

My dad spent sixteen months at Grosvenor House receiving 24-hour care in a lovely clean sea view room overlooking the bowls green where he used to play. It was like living in an extended family and when I visited I always got a friendly welcome. They had a programme of varied activities each day in
two lovely lounges. When my dad was well enough they would take him along the seafront which he enjoyed. He also liked to visit the little shop where he would stock up on treats.
I was always kept informed of any changes in my dad's health and with the end-of-life care they went above and beyond with their care for him and the support for the family. The Management and all the team have been amazing and work so hard and I cannot thank them enough for all they did for my dad.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseThank you, Sue, for your kind words. We feel honoured that your dad lived with us. He was a lovely man and would not let anything beat him. We miss him dearly. He bought character to the home. We also miss seeing you and your brother and the banter we had. Look forward to you following us on Facebook and keeping in touch.

We had heard good reports about this care home, and our experience to date confirms this to be the case. All the staff are very friendly, and when I visit, I'm always met with a friendly welcome. My dad has a very nice room with a view of the sea, and the staff have taken him for walks around the nearby
gardens. I was very impressed one day when four of the residents, including my dad were pushed in wheelchairs a half mile along the seafront to a cafe for something to eat and drink. I bet that was hard work. At times he can be very difficult, and the staff have dealt with this in a very patient manner. There's no questions he is receiving a far higher level of care now he's in this care home than he would have done had he not moved in. It's also true he's now receiving regular medical reviews of his health and when there's been a medical emergency the response has been very quick.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseThank you for this lovely review. Your dad is quite a character (in a good way) and can be quite cheeky. It is a pleasure for us to have him staying at Grosvenor House.

My friend had a stroke and lost some of her mobility and as a result, she lost confidence. At home again she was unable to cope with housework and she reacted badly to being indoors 24/7 and was underweight. After settling in at Grosvenor House, she enjoyed her room and the fact that she was in the
company of others. She has regained her lost weight and she has gained in confidence. It will be a help, while trying to improve her mobility, that she is surrounded by friendly staff and residents.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseI am pleased your friend has settled well, joining in activities and functions. Her appetite has most definitely improved. It is so nice to see you when you visit and support the home.

My brother and I consider ourselves so lucky to have found Grosvenor House. In the early days, Mum enjoyed the company and the lovely activities. Now she is bed-bound and on end-of-life care, she remains a well-loved member of the community and enjoys the care which is second to none. We cannot thank
them enough for all they do!

My mother used to live by herself and was independent but she then fell and broke her hip. Following this she lost her mobility and there was no choice but to move her into a care home. This took place during Covid in December 2020 however Greensleeves were extremely helpful and supportive throughout
this process. I had to transfer my mother from hospital to Grosvenor House myself, when I arrived at Grosvenor House I was immediately impressed by the care and skill shown in getting my mother out of my car and into a wheelchair - it took three people! The unplanned move to a care home was a shock for my mother and the loss of independence continues to be a challenge, however throughout all this time staff in the home have given my mother the care she needs, initially helping her with almost everything whilst giving her the space to gradually regain some limited mobility. Mum feels safe there and has appreciated the immediate support when she has been unwell and I feel she is safe there.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseThank you so much for your review. No, the timing was not good when Mum needed a care home due to the pandemic, and it also wasn't easy for yourself and the family as visits were at the time so restrictive. I am really pleased Mum feels safe and we endeavour to encourage her to keep her independence as much as possible. Times can be challenging but the important thing is getting through them together.

My mother lived in Grosvenor House for almost 2 1/2 years. During this time she was treated with respect and dignity. She had a large room and en-suite, with sea views. My mother was particular about food but would pass compliments.
This was the most difficult time, due to Covid, for all of us. Yet
somehow the staff kept their spirits and were cheerful. We were kept fully informed of the steps the home put in place so we could see our loved ones.
My mother passed away about 2 weeks ago. During her last days, the staff took steps so my mother would be comfortable and gave her excellent care.
I feel that the staff have become an extension of our family and I will miss them.
I would highly recommend this care home. If anyone is looking at care homes for their loved one, and there is a vacancy, then grab it!
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseThank you. We feel privileged to have looked after Mum. She was a very kind, caring and loving lady with a good sense of humour. My auntie is 96 years old and has lived in this home for 7-8 years and for all that time, including this review period, I have found that the care she has received to be excellent. At all times the management and staff have been very welcoming to my husband and I whenever we have been able to visit.
They are very easy to talk to and have kept me fully informed of both my aunt and the overall situation within the home. Unfortunately due to my aunt's failing eyesight and hearing, she has recently been unable to take part in many activities. Her medical needs are well cared for and I do not have any concerns for her wellbeing. A big thank you to you all for your kindness and patience. I have no hesitation in recommending Grosvenor House.

My Mum came to Grovesnor House over 6 months ago during the pandemic. Due to the restrictions with Covid-19, we were unable to look around the home, however, we were recommended Grovesnor House by friends for its standards of care and warmth. Its been a difficult process for the family however it has
been great to see Mum well cared for, looked after and Mum being more herself again. Mum tells us often that her care is great, she enjoys social contact with others over lunch and dinner. There are lots of activities within the home that are streamed live on social media so it has been great to see a bit more of the home and the other residents.
Reply from Amanda Newport, Manager at Grosvenor HouseIt has been a very difficult time, and considering Mum came in, in the midst of it all and has settled as well as she has, is a credit to her and how she herself has managed the situation. We are pleased Mum has settled here and I am grateful for the lovely comments. Thank you Charlotte.

My aunt was in residence at Grosvenor House for 21-months, and she was cared for in a very professional way. The family didn't have to worry about her. The staff are amazing and helped me (especially one lady) on the day of her funeral when I had a fall outside the care home. They gave me expert first
aid and gave me advice, which was followed up by another lady at the crematorium. Thank you so much for looking after my relative.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.695)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.695) out of 10 for Grosvenor House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.745 for Grosvenor House is calculated as follows: ( (166 Excellents x 5) + (45 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 216 Ratings = 4.745
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grosvenor House is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
