Grosvenor House is a leading not-for-profit retirement home in the seaside town of St Leonards-on-Sea. Rated Good by the CQC (October 2017), the home is a converted hotel offering person-centred residential and respite care.

Part of Greensleeves Care, a UK care charity focused on people rather than profit, Grosvenor House provides award-winning support, beginning with flexible trial stays to ease the transition into care. Residents are also reassured by Greensleeves’ Home for Life promise, ensuring no one is asked to leave if their funds run out.

Overlooking the coastline, many bedrooms enjoy sea views, and its location near Hastings and Bexhill allows residents to enjoy cultural attractions such as Hastings Contemporary Museum and Alexandra Park. The 21 large, fully furnished bedrooms include ensuite wet rooms, and residents are encouraged to personalise their spaces with pictures, ornaments, or small furniture to feel at home.

The home features an onsite hair and beauty salon, encouraging residents to look and feel their best. Daily activities and social events offer opportunities to try new hobbies, pursue familiar interests, and foster friendships. Communal facilities such as the patio, lounges, and shop create a vibrant, supportive environment.

Mealtimes are central to life at Grosvenor House. The in-house chef caters to individual tastes and dietary needs, ensuring dining is both enjoyable and inclusive.

The care team brings extensive experience, led by the Registered Manager, who has served for over a decade alongside a longstanding team. The Family Liaison Manager provides further support, welcoming families and guiding them through the process of choosing care.

Grosvenor House’s trusted and dedicated team ensures every resident feels valued and supported, from the moment they begin considering care through every stage of their journey.

My father has been a resident in Grosvenor House for two years now and both we and he have always been more than happy with the care he receives.
The staff are all professional and attend to his needs in a caring manner, especially after he fell recently and fractured his hip. He particularly likes
the food and we are all impressed by the level of entertainment arranged for the residents.

I have only been here since July 2018. On arrival, I was made to feel at home immediately.
Every single member of staff, from management down, has the welfare of the residents at the top of their agenda and on the few occasions when their patience has been tried to the limits, they have always coped
with quiet care and dignity.
My room is treated as my own and my untidy way of making my own bed is respected. The room is kept clean by friendly, caring staff. Any odd jobs are carried out quietly and efficiently by the maintenance man. The food is well planned and cooked, presented and served by cheerful staff.
Have I left anyone out? If so I apologise.
One minus point, sometimes bell call not answered very quickly, but they are SO busy.

My mum loves living at Grosvenor House.
She started coming here just for respite to start with then chose to come here permanently.
She loves the staff here and they all seem to love her too.
When mum broke her hip 2 years ago it was the manager at that time and the wonderful staff that got my mum
up and walking when she came home from the hospital.

My family can relax knowing that our matriarch is being well cared for 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We could never provide her with this level of care ourselves. Not only my mother but all our family and friends are treated with respect and dignity when we visit or express concerns. We are
all extremely appreciative of staff and management.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My father in law has been a resident of Grosvenor House for 20 months now. He is very happy there. He is well looked after and all his needs are met and he never stops singing the praises of meals!
However, what pleases me equally is how he spends less time in his room as he chooses to go to the lounge
and enjoy the company of others. I believe this change is due to the infectious enthusiasm that starts right at the top with the wonderful manager and rubs off on everyone - staff, visitors and residents alike! Any excuse for a celebration is taken, whether a Royal Wedding or the local Pirates Day, if there is fun to be had! The staff treat residents more like friends and seem to have the skill to quickly understand their individual personalities.
Therefore gentle, but constant, "persuasion" was used in his case and has resulted in a much better quality of life. He enjoys being taken into the gardens for a change of scenery and some outings further afield.

I feel all the carers and everyone are so helpful and pleasant and I don't feel I could find anywhere up to this standard. I love the outings arranged and offered. Just had tea dance at the local theatre and our open day, which was most enjoyable. I look forward to more outings.

Grosvenor House has a fantastic location near St Leonards seafront. All the staff and management are extremely caring and approachable. My mum is becoming more difficult and less mobile as she gets older, but staff are doing their best to accommodate her as she regards Grosvenor House as her home.

Grosvenor House is a very pleasant care home and the staff are extremely caring. The home is situated in a very pleasant part of Hastings overlooking the sea.
Activities, when arranged, are very good and varied. Being not too big, the home has a friendly family feel.

My mother became a resident at short notice after she had a stroke following my father's death.
The staff were very professional, but also kind and helpful. The care provided enabled my mother to feel safe at a difficult time. It is amazing how quickly she has settled into her new home. Staff have
helped her to feel positive about the future and ensured that she feels valued and able to continue to make a contribution to society. We are very pleased to have found Grosvenor House.

I came for 2 weeks respite having lost my husband in February 2017. We had both been to Grosvenor House on many occasions entertaining with handbells. My eyesight was not good and various other health problems, I have decided to take up permanent residence. I also have several friends here.

The agency staff left a lot to be desired and unfortunately I had a lot of agency staff during my stay. Many of them were not trained and did not understand English.

My father is very happy at the care home but there are some issues which are a little worrying:
1) No sufficient attention paid to his 2 hearing aids so that on a number of occasions he has not had one hearing aid working and as he is profoundly hard of hearing he cannot participate in anything.
-
Have been some problems regarding his 2 pairs of glasses so that he could not use them.
- In a recent residents meeting no thought had been given to those with hearing problems so that my father heard nothing.
2. A recent huge increase of >10% was not properly or fully explained and when I insisted on an explanation the facts were not disclosed.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.465)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.465) out of 10 for Grosvenor House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.565 for Grosvenor House is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (37 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.565
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grosvenor House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked at Grosvenor House since 2016 and in the catering industry since I was 17 years old.

In my working career, I have had the opportunity of both integrating in a front of house manner with the public and also behind the scenes preparing and designing original and nutritious menus.
