Mount Ephraim House

Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells TN4 8BU

Mount Ephraim House provides high quality care in a friendly environment, which maintains residents’ rights and dignity.

The original house was used by King Charles II and Nell Gwyn as a hunting lodge. Many rooms have original wooden paneling and carved ceilings.
It is an impressive building with delightful, well-kept sheltered gardens and walkways.

Mount Ephraim House is the residents’ home and they are always involved in everything that happens within it. A panel of residents even interview potential new staff, to ensure that they have a say in who is caring for them.

Residents benefit from a lovely eating experience in an elegant dining room. The home always offers a varied menu that caters for all tastes and requirements, with residents regularly contributing new menu ideas.

Overview

The Review Score of 9.5 (maximum of 10) for Mount Ephraim House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 14 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Mount Ephraim House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.589 for Mount Ephraim House is calculated as follows: ( (111 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 163 Ratings = 4.589

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.921 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mount Ephraim House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 7.6 positive Reviews (38 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 7.6 Target = 0.921

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

9.5 Mount Ephraim House has a Review Score of 9.5 (9.510) from 14 Reviews

My father was with the home for three years, he died on the 5th of April. The staff, without exception, were respectful and so kind to my father.
They were brilliant at keeping us informed if he had a fall or was unwell. They could not have been more helpful and understanding. It was so reassuring knowing how they genuinely cared about him. He was always properly dressed, clean and well fed.
The last few days were beautifully handled, a hospice specialist was brought in to explain everything. The team at the home gave us privacy and lots of tea. He had a pain free peaceful end and he was never alone.
The care at this home was frankly quite exceptional, I cannot fault any aspect.
I am so grateful to all of them.

Thank you Luisa for your kind words and heartfelt comments. We greatly appreciate your feedback and your wonderful comments were shared with all the staff at Mount Ephraim House.

My mother was at Mount Ephraim House for a short time. During the time she was there, the staff showed her kindness and compassion beyond any expectations.

A relaxed and happy atmosphere from the moment you enter the building. Every member of staff you meet; in the office or kitchen, carers, domestics, gardeners, is helpful, concerned, caring and smiling. Willing and friendly and fun. The activities are brilliant and well thought out; varied, continuous and organised. There are outings, a really wide range of art, crafts, music and quizzes, talking, exercise classes and more... Being a carer myself I know the building needs the modernising that is coming soon, but the staff cope amazingly well and it doesn't affect the great feeling of wellbeing. Couldn't recommend it more.

I have visited Mount Ephraim on various occasions and always found it to be friendly and to have a happy atmosphere. The care is of the highest quality and done with love and compassion. There is always a lot to do with a choice of various activities to take part in and staff to help residents participate. We visited again yesterday and there was someone playing live music in the lounge which was wonderful to listen to and very cheery.

Mount Ephraim is at the opposite end of the care home spectrum to the modern, expensive, antiseptic and soulless homes that now seem to be coming on stream. It is run very professionally and manages to create a real family environment. The number and variety of activities - both in the home and on day trips out is particularly impressive as is the amazing quality and variety of the meals. In the end, it all comes down to the carers. Individually (and without exception) outstanding and as a team, absolutely beyond reproach. Thank you, Mount Ephraim, for being there and being who and what you are.
PS. The only topics below marked Satisfactory rather than Excellent are a direct reflection of the age of the building. This is being renovated over the next 2 years and should, therefore, reach Excellent grade on all fronts when complete.

My father went in for one week of respite while we were away. The care and devotion provided to residents from management and all staff combined with the quality of care is first class.
The rooms are very clean as is the overall cleanliness of the home. The facilities are very good allowing as much social interaction as an individual would like. Facilities are also very good, with wonderful gardens for residents and visitors in which to sit.
The home provides regular activities to stimulate and entertain the residents on a regular basis.
There is an excellent dining room with great food provided to residents.
My father felt very safe in this environment and liked it so much he actually stayed for 5 weeks.
Mount Ephraim House represents excellent value for money and we cannot thank the staff of Greensleeves Care enough.

An excellent home. My mother fell and broke her arm in two places and is unable to care for herself. 'Mount Ephraim House' has been wonderful in helping her heal. The staff are excellent, caring compassionate and thoughtful. They could not do enough to help her.

It has been a terrible year for us as a family as my father passed away and we had to find a home for my mother. The staff at Mount Ephraim have been
fantastic. They have made the transition for my mother as smooth as possible and she has settled in well. The home is a beautiful building with lovely, well
kept grounds for the residents to enjoy. All of the staff are extremely helpful, kind and caring which has been very re-assuring for my mother and our family too.

I visit my dad twice a week and I'm continually amazed by the wonderful care provided by the staff to all residents. They are always thinking of new things to do such as trips out or garden parties to create special and memorable days. In the 6 months since my dad has been there I have never seen him more happy. Rather than it being a very "clinical" setting it feels homely and welcoming - the sort of place I want for my old age!

Mount Ephraim House staff are very considerate but the home is undermanned. The food is variable, when the main chef (lady) is on duty it is excellent when the stand in cook is on duty it is poor. The building needs upgrading internally. The oak panelled walls are wonderful but not maintained. Parking areas should be enlarged. Self funding residents are subsidising the council residents. It is very expensive to self fund.
