My cousin moved into the Care Home in August 2023 for respite and to be with his wife who had already been resident for a couple of months. When his wife died later in the year he decided to continue living there as going back home to live alone was too much of a challenge. He has been quite happy
living in the Care Home, although always challenges the staff if he thinks something isn't being done correctly and they all accept his criticism and 'advice' with patience and understanding. He is definitely not an easy person to deal with at times, but the staff are all kind and considerate and he thinks a lot of them and often tells me how hard they work and the lady on reception always knows what's going on and always gets things done, he tells me.
The Home is well run and a happy and friendly place, a very relaxed atmosphere. The Activities Organisers are brilliant at either arranging outside entertainment or doing inhouse activities.
Reply from Emma Thornton Locke, Deputy Manager at Sharnbrook HouseThank you very much for taking the time to share such thoughtful and detailed feedback about your cousin's experience with us. It means a great deal to our whole team.
We remember the circumstances in which your cousin first came to the Home and appreciate how difficult that period must have been for him. We are pleased that he felt supported enough to remain with us and that, over time, this has become a place where he feels comfortable and settled.

Your comments about our staff are especially appreciated. We value residents who speak up and take an active interest in how things are run, and your cousin's honesty and engagement are respected by the team. It is lovely to hear that, despite occasional challenges, he recognises the hard work, patience and dedication shown by our staff, including our reception and activities teams.

I am one of 4 sons and as a family we are all made very welcome at all times, we cannot praise the home more, the respect, dignity and care is outstanding. The acting manager

My mum Joan celebrated her 100th birthday on mon22 Dec. The staff went above and beyond for her big day. During late Oct my mum had a fall and broke her hip, she spent 3 weeks in hospital, she became very frail, quite honestly we didn't think she would make her 100 milestone and her well anticipated
card from the King. Mum came home from hospital in November and the care she received from everyone at Sharnbrook was fantastic I can't thank you all enough. Her big day was filled with lots if love from everyone, gifts from the staff lots of gorgeous food and of course a fantastic cake and Matt the wonderful singer. Once again Sharnbrook thank you very very much.
Reply from Emma Thornton Locke, Deputy Manager at Sharnbrook HouseThank you Linda, like you - we are so thrilled with how much your mum enjoyed her 100th birthday, it was an amazing day and what a milestone she has reached, we are all in awe of her and all she has achieved. Thank you for your kind words, we are so pleased that she recovered so well being back at Sharnbrook with the support of all the staff.

Thanks again!

The staff are extremely caring and patient with the residents. I've never heard a cross word. There are activities to join in if wanted. It is always warm and there is plenty to eat and drink. There is a weekly hairdresser and a visiting foot health practitioner. The gardens are beautiful and we walk
down to the lake every day. I'll be moving in when I'm old enough!

We moved my mother to Sharnbrook House in June 2025. This has proved to be the best decision we have made after experiencing a terrible time in a previous home. All the staff at Sharnbrook are absolutely wonderful. The management, reception, carers, kitchen staff and housekeepers are always welcoming,
professional, kind & caring. Mum has been in very poor health recently and the carers have gone above & beyond to try everything they can to het her back on the road to recovery. We as a family are extremely grateful and feel totally reassured that mum is getting the best possible care from people who genuinely care about her. The staff are always there to listen and support the family too. Thank you.

My mother moved in in July this year and I and my two sisters visit individually once a week so we have had a lot of contact with all the staff.
There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and we have found all the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly.
My mother can be quite difficult sometimes but
the staff take it in their stride and are endlessly patient.
Emma always knows exactly what is going on and has been incredibly helpful in making sure everything that needs sorting out is done.
Anna on reception is endlessly positive and helpful and has spent time talking to mum to try to keep things in perspective.
Kim, the senior medical assistant (sorry probably not her correct title) has been very patient with mum's demands.
The management team have been amazingly helpful and every member of staff know mum's name and are wonderfully friendly and hard working to make sure mum's needs are met.

My mother has been a resident at Sharnbrook since March 2023 and is very happy and comfortable. The 24/7 care of my mother is exemplary and staff are never in hurry and treat her with respect and dignity. As a family we thankful for the facility. Although her room is rather small she is happy there
with a lovely view of village activity from the upstairs window.. The home is a wonderful provision for her needs.

My father has recently moved to Sharnbrook House from another care home, and sadly I also have experience of yet another care home in the area since my mother was cared for with dementia before she died. Whilst it is early days, I asked to post a review since I am so pleased with how my dad is doing
since moving. He has received excellent medical and nursing attention through the interventions of the Sharnbrook House senior team, who have carried out dedicated care to improve his general health and multiple ailments. With significant improvement in his health, he is slowly putting on some weight due to a better diet and great atmosphere in the dining room, and is generally cleaner and well-groomed. He is in the early stages of dementia, making him irascible to say the least at times, but I have witnessed the staff being gentle, kind, and caring with him at all times, and usually with an injection of humour!

My father has been a resident at Sharnbrook House for 5 months now and my family and I have nothing but praise for the Home, the Staff and the care he receives there. The Management Team have gone above and beyond to help him settle into his new surroundings (he has dementia) and to make him feel very
much at home. He absolutely adores 3 staff members in particular who are so patient and encouraging with him. Every single member of staff knows him by name and will stop to have a chat with him which, as he is still very sociable, makes him extremely happy. Whenever I visit I am made to feel very welcome, nothing is too much trouble for the staff - whether that's the Carers, the Laundry Team, the Cleaners, the Maintenance Team or the Management Team. They are all exceptional, I really cannot recommend Sharnbrook House highly enough.

My father has been a resident of Sharnbrook House since December and I am extremely grateful for the care he is receiving. He is well fed, clean, and the staff genuinely care about the residents-often with them encouraging Dad to join in activities and being mindful of explaining things to him as his
dementia is advancing. Specifically, I want to call out the care they have shown navigating a complicated family situation and ensuring that Dad is kept safe. They deeply care for him, and it shows in how happy he is there. Every time I visit, the team update me on how he is, normally giving him an extra pudding at lunchtime as he loves the delicious food! The team have made what is incredibly difficult-moving a loved one into a care home-a good experience. Huge thank you to the management team and the care staff!

My grandad has been living at this care home for a few months and I couldn't be more grateful for the wonderful environment he's in. From the moment you arrive, the house feels welcoming and homely. It's always clean and well looked after, with beautiful, well-kept gardens he can sit and enjoy this

What sets this place apart is the atmosphere - it's so warm and positive. The staff are incredibly kind, friendly, and genuinely caring. You can tell they really take the time to get to know the residents and treat them with respect and compassion. Both the residents and staff always seem happy and at ease.

Since my father-in-law moved into the care home in December, the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. I want to extend a special thank you to 3 staff members in particular for their exceptional care and kindness.
Ali brings such joy by singing with my father-in-law-something he truly loves
and looks forward to. One staff member keeps our family closely connected by regularly sending my wife lovely photos and updates of his daily activities, which means the world to us. And the fact that he's been welcomed to sit in the office has made him feel like his old self again-like he's back at work, with purpose and pride.
The compassion and thoughtfulness shown by the team have made a real difference in his life and ours. We are incredibly grateful.

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.839 for Sharnbrook House is calculated as follows: ( (261 Excellents x 5) + (39 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 304 Ratings = 4.839
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sharnbrook House is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Lisa Houghton

Job Title: Interim Home Manager Joined: 2022

Hello, my name is Lisa Houghton and I am extremely honoured to be the Interim Home Manager of Sharnbrook House.
The team at Sharnbrook House ensure the residents are seen as individuals and they are encouraged by the staff to continue to maintain and enjoy their pastimes to the full.

Sharnbrook House is a 19th century period building situated in idyllic grounds with terraced gardens and pathways leading to its own lake. Sharnbrook House benefits from being in the hub of the village with all the local amenities within a short walking distance.

Sharnbrook House has always been part of the local community and all the staff team and volunteers continue to embrace the village spirit.
I pride myself on always making myself available to all who come into contact with the home and will always find the time to sit and discuss any issues that may arise or just have a chat over a cup of tea.

The staff team and myself strongly believe that all who come into contact with the home should have a positive experience, whether they are residing or just visiting.

I personally believe that this is each individual’s home, not just a care home, where family and friends are always welcome.
