Very pleased with the level of care at Sharnbrook House. My father did not want to leave his home, but his dementia has progressed to the extent that he requires specialist care. We, as a family, feel relieved to have found a suitable environment for him. Due to the national COVID situation, our interaction
is quite limited, but he frequently says he likes it there and the team clearly relate to him well. They are always friendly and helpful when I call and communicate warmly when passing him the phone. The manager gave him a great welcome upon arrival and continues to be very supportive. He has clearly settled in and now plays the piano there; something he ceased doing at home long ago, and he likes the food too. Based on what I’ve seen and heard, so far, I would not hesitate to recommend Sharnbrook House.

My grandfather has recently moved to Sharnbrook House. We couldn’t be more delighted with the care he receives and it has been the most incredible lifting of a burden for our whole family at a very difficult time. The staff are so very kind and every need of his is supported. He is listened to and respected
and treated so well. When I have visited, every member of staff who walks by says hello to him and knows his name and he seems delighted to see them. He lost so much weight before he went in but he already looks so much better. It feels like it is extremely well managed. We are enormously grateful to the staff at Sharnbrook.

My father arrived at Sharnbrook on 10th July. Previous to this he lived in a bungalow on a retirement village and was admitted to hospital following a fall, he was then exposed to Covid-19 and tested positive so his hospital stay was a lot longer than we first thought. The hospital advised that he would
need 24/7 care when he was discharged so we contacted Sharnbrook and luckily they had a room free and we were able to reserve the room. My father was made to feel very welcome straight away, the managers and the team were so very kind and ensured that he settled in. He was extremely weak when he arrived, however, the team have got him up on his feet and walking again and he's going from strength to strength. He is so much happier and even said that he wasn't lonely any more which was lovely to hear. He now has the care that he needs and nothing is too much trouble. I would like to say a big thank you to the managers and the whole team at Sharnbrook, I know my father is safe, well cared for and happy.

My 97-year-old Dad lived in his own bungalow in a retirement village when following a fall he was taken into hospital in early May 2020. He soon had a coronavirus contact and tested positive and after a week was shipped out to a home where they nursed him through the virus. We had a Zoom meeting with
the Manager as it had become apparent that he should no longer be caring for himself and were lucky that she had a room free for him. She was kind enough to keep the room for him for the nine weeks until he eventually tested negative and it was with huge relief that we got him up to Sharnbrook, near to us. He was in poor shape mentally and physically after all that time in bed but the difference in him now is amazing. He is eating well, walking around with his walker and generally enjoying life there. The Manager, Deputy Manager and all the staff have been so kind, reassuring and welcoming, both to Dad and to us that we cannot be happier with this outcome. Thank you to them and all staff at Sharnbrook!

My 98-year-old mother has been at Sharnbrook House since June 2019. Sharnbrook was chosen on the recommendation of a friend. The care my mother receives is excellent. Staff are thoughtful and always ready and willing to assist and talk to the residents at any time. Finding a 'home' for my mother was
a very emotional experience. But the care, thoughtfulness and consideration to my mother's needs has lifted a great weight off my shoulders.

The staff and management at Sharnbrook go above and beyond to support my parents and me. This has been the case since my parents made Sharnbrook their home almost two years ago. I have found all staff to be very caring, always on the ball and helpful. They know their residents well and take pride in
making their lives enjoyable and comfortable. The culture and atmosphere at Sharnbrook are welcoming, attentive and professional. Thank you to everyone at Sharnbrook for their continued dedication and high standards.

This review is long overdue. My 98-year-old ex RAF pilot father entered Sharnbrook in early December 2018. Up until then, he been able to live in his own home with a 24/7 live-in carer. Eventually, we were unable to care for him at the level he required and following a brief stay in hospital, we decided
to find another way to ensure his continued care. By chance, I already visited Sharnbrook House earlier in the year with my brother prior to arranging a live-in carer. Right from that first visit, long before my Dad's actual arrival, the impression was of a warm, caring, homely environment.
When the time came, from the initial assessment of Dad and from the top down and across, the TLC and gentle handling of my Dad was fantastic. Feisty to the end, our family could not have wished for a better place for Dad to pass away 6 weeks later in January 2019. No praise too high to all involved with Dad's care at Sharnbrook House. Thank you.

The manager and her team welcomed my mum to the home in September. She attends 3 days per week - day times only. Mum loves it here, staff are kind, attentive and genuinely interested in each and every one of their residents. The home is clean, well decorated with an amazing garden in which to walk.
We can leave Mum here in complete confridence that she weill be well cared for, stimulated and attended to.

Since our mother moved into Sharnbrook House my brother and I have been able to relax, safe in the knowledge that our mother is extremely well cared for and, most importantly, happy.
Sharnbrook House offers a homely environment where our mother's individual needs are prioritised.
We have been highly
impressed with the genuine caring approach of all the staff who always have a smile on their face and particularly the management who go the extra mile in supporting our mother's well being.
All of this in a beautiful building with stunning grounds where every visit my children and I feel as at home as my mother does.

My mother has been living at Sharnbrook House for 18 months now. My initial positive feelings have only been reinforced by witnessing the most amazing team who work there. The level of care and kindness they show to all residents, not just my mother, is nothing short of brilliant.
I live a short
walk from the house and tend to pop in regularly, I have always found staff on hand with residents and they are happy to give me their time if I need anything or am worried about my mother. There are interesting and varied activities for those that want to join in and a choice of menu both at lunch and supper. I'm sure every resident presents their own special needs and challenges, not least my own mother, however the staff have found ways to care for her with a dedicated approach to her problems. I can't say it enough - they are amazing!

My mother has been a resident at Sharnbrook House for ten months now and has received excellent service throughout this time. In January she was unwell and her care was exemplary. Room service was provided at all mealtimes the doctor visited and care staff were regularly checking her progress and wellbeing.
I was kept informed of treatment and my mother is now recovered and enjoying the activities which the home provides. Many thanks to everyone at Sharnbrook House.

My mum is a resident at Sharnbrook House and has been since September 2015. I am very happy with her care here. I feel confident when I leave that she will be safe and well cared for.
My mum has medication for mental health problems which are difficult to manage and the home do their best to keep on
top of this. However, they are restricted by the cuts in the NHS budgets and the doctor, so my mum is not given additional blood tests to check her levels. Everything else is excellent.

Fortunately, we knew about the quality of care at Sharnbrook House when looking for a home for my aunt. We have not been disappointed!
The culture of the home is that it is the residents new home.
All of the staff are well trained and keen to look after the residents.
Residents are able to make their
own teas and coffees if they are able to do so safely.
The home provides a wide range of activities and outings.

Following an unexpected five-month stay in a hospital, I had the dubious task of finding a care home for my Mum and luckily came across Sharnbrook House. As soon as I walked in, it felt like a home from home. Clean, friendly, cosy, relaxed and a beautiful setting. The home manager is an angel and the
rest of the team are close behind. Nothing is too much trouble, every need is catered for but everyone who lives there is treated with respect and dignity and encouraged to be as independent as possible. This is the resident's home and the staff are there to help and care where needed. Mum has been there a year now and belongs. It is her home and she is thriving.

Mum moved into Sharnbrook House in January 2016. She had been living in her own flat but over the previous year had been in and out of the hospital as her health and mental state declined. Sharnbrook was one of the first care homes we looked at, and having visited several, my sister and I had no hesitation
in placing mum in their care. From our very first visit, Sharnbrook just felt 'right' for mum and we knew she would be well cared for.
We weren't wrong and although her stay was short, she was treated with care, compassion, dignity and friendship all the time she lived there. Mum passed away peacefully in her room in June and my sister and I were with her until the end.
The staff treated us with the utmost compassion and did everything to make mum's passing peaceful, tending to her with kindness and extending that same kindness to our family. We wish we had placed mum in their care earlier and know that her final months were spent somewhere she felt safe and well cared for.

While visiting a dear friend at Sharnbrook House we were received by staff and were very impressed by the warm welcome, we were shown into a family room and a carer brought our friend along in her wheelchair. There were four of us tow with disabilities. The carers were very helpful and made us feel
welcome and relaxed. It had been arranged for us to have dinner with our friend and we must emphasise on the service and how good the food was.
Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. The food was excellent. This is the second time we have visited our friend at Shaenbrook House and both times we have commented on how clean, tidy and friendly the home is. Our friend is very happy.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.845)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.845) out of 10 for Sharnbrook House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 21 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.845 for Sharnbrook House is calculated as follows: ( (212 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 245 Ratings = 4.845
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sharnbrook House is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Interim Home Manager Joined: 2022

Hello, my name is Lisa Houghton and I am extremely honoured to be the Interim Home Manager of Sharnbrook House.
The team at Sharnbrook House ensure the residents are seen as individuals and they are encouraged by the staff to continue to maintain and enjoy their pastimes to the full.

Sharnbrook House is a 19th century period building situated in idyllic grounds with terraced gardens and pathways leading to its own lake. Sharnbrook House benefits from being in the hub of the village with all the local amenities within a short walking distance.

Sharnbrook House has always been part of the local community and all the staff team and volunteers continue to embrace the village spirit.
I pride myself on always making myself available to all who come into contact with the home and will always find the time to sit and discuss any issues that may arise or just have a chat over a cup of tea.

The staff team and myself strongly believe that all who come into contact with the home should have a positive experience, whether they are residing or just visiting.

I personally believe that this is each individual’s home, not just a care home, where family and friends are always welcome.
