Old Station Yard, off Abbey Close, Abingdon, OX14 3US
View Full Details of Old Station HouseMy mother has been a resident for over 2 years now. My impression is that the senior staff are highly competent and caring, taking care of each resident very much on an individual basis, and a considerate effort is put into organising activities, which is appreciated. Care staff are generally good, if sometimes a little stretched. Medical issues are dealt with effectively - there is good oversight of individual requirements. Rooms are single but spacious.
Old Station House is a happy and busy care home. There are always interesting activities going on. My friend here is well looked after and the care from are always helpful and friendly towards him and very welcoming to me. Last week was his birthday and I joined him for the music afternoon. It moved me to tears seeing as many residents involved and enjoying duets with the lady in charge. Rooms are clean and my friend has been here for over 3 years and is very settled.
As a family we are very happy with the home and all staff. We always feel welcome, and we know that mum loves taking part in all the activities that are done by the staff member. Mum is well cared for and we are always informed of any medical appointment and changes to medication. The only negative is that the rooms could do with repainting and new flooring.
Staff very committed and keen to be helpful. Clients seem happy with the staff. There's an atmosphere of relaxed happiness.
Staff do a great job, can't fault Station House.
Today 10/09/24 is my dad's 90th birthday. The care home had a wonderful little party for him, and also had booked the Wantage Male Voice Choir (who he used to sing with) to come along and sing a little concert for him and the other residents. it was a really special morning, although dad did find it a bit overwhelming, he managed to join in with some of the songs. It was so lovely to see other residents and some of the staff joining in and singing along to some of the songs as well. We would like to thank all the staff especially the manager for organising this special treat for Dad, his family and other residents as well. Really special memories. Thank you once again.
Old Sation House is not the most glamorous of care homes but it is the warmest in terms of atmosphere energised by the carers and ancillary staff. It's location suits our needs very well. The welcome given each time our relative enters is much appreciated. Facilities are good, meals are all that our relative asks for, needs are met fairly promptly and most importantly in a kindly manner. The entertainment provider and choice of activities are marvellous.
Enjoys activitities. Does not like all the food. Loves room.
Lovely environment to be in, with a happy atmosphere. The staff are always really helpful and genuinely friendly. I am always kept informed of any medical issues, concerns or needs regarding my mother, however small and know she is in a caring environment and well looked after. I couldn't ask for my mother to be in a better place.
My mother spent 5 weeks in Old Station House recuperating after a spell in hospital. She had a lovely spacious room with an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette so she could make her own drinks, which gave her a degree of independence. Everyone who works there is happy and welcoming to residents and visitors alike. Although Mum didn't really join in with the daily activities, as she is a bit of a loner, there was always something interesting for the residents to join in with, together with the lovely garden and rooftop terrace, and organised trips out. It was always a joy to visit and I shall certainly miss everybody. The team must be very proud of the loving and caring environment that they have created for their residents and guests. Thank you again for being such special people.
We were very nervous about my Mother-in-law moving into care, but Old Station House is lovely and we have seen her persona change so positively in the last 4 weeks. We are genuinely amazed by the transformation of the lonely lady she had become in her home. All the staff are happy, smiling and always have time for you and they make a real effort with regular entertainment. It has been better than we could have imagined.
My mother (102) has been in Old Station House for over a year with declining health. The care has matched her needs with medical attention being exceptional. The flat is large, well equipped and more than adequate. Food, drink and personal care standards are also well above what my friends have experienced for their relatives in other homes. Unfortunately, her poor mobility prevents her from benefiting from the social interaction and entertainment/outings provided. The staff are well organised and trained to deliver professional care. They try to attend to her individual requirements within their limited time available. I would recommend OSH (and Orders of St John) to anyone.
Old Station House has a homely feel, calm and relaxing. Very caring and friendly staff, which feel like one big family. Lots of activities, big rooms. I am so happy my dad is in this lovely environment.
Station House had been recommended to my sister and me, and following a visit, we knew it was the right care home for Mum when the time came, and she could not manage on her own any longer. We don’t regret the decision for a moment. The atmosphere, from the outset, is warm, friendly and caring, which totally reflects the experience. Mum is extremely well looked after and content. We feel reassured that she is in very caring and capable hands. Communication from the home is excellent, and they have been extremely supportive both to Mum and us. There are daily activities and weekly outside trips for those who are able to participate, a lovely bright atrium to sit in and dining areas where residents can join each other for meals. The location is great with access to the park, riverside walks and town. We thank all the staff there for their constant care and dedication.
The staff at this care home have really taken the time to get to know Mum and have always provided comfort and reassurance when Mum has been anxious or distressed. My impression is one of a very caring environment. The residents are regularly treated to a variety of activities, and those less able to participate are always helped so that they don’t feel excluded. There are plenty of outings too. I have no doubts at all that Mum is in a very caring and safe environment, and I thank everyone, including the carers, volunteers and management, for their constant kindness and concern.
Rather belated. My mother (age 92) moved into Old Station House mid September and I cannot rate this particular home enough. Having considered and waivered on moving her here for a few years whilst she became less and less independent, it has taken the weight off our shoulders and we have not looked back. It's home from home with en-suite kitchens! Seeing Mum so happy, always with new friends nattering, putting the world to rights or partaking in an activity each time we visit, we know she is in the best place possible. We even feel like we are interrupting some days! The staff are second to none dedicated, there, but in the background. Special thanks to the staff for being patient with us and for all the information, advice, support and care. Not to forget the staff member who works his socks off with trips and entertaining the residents on a daily basis (not a bad singer either!). It's wonderful to see mum like this, we don't have to worry about her anymore. Just build more memories! Thank you.
This was the first time we were able to visit Mum each day for a week as we live a distance away. The staff were so helpful and friendly. We joined in a couple of the activities and found them fun. We appreciate the hard work that goes into organising such things. We would like to thank all the staff for all they do for the residents.
All the staff are very caring and attentive. Nothing seems too much trouble. Enjoyable activities. I feel very comfortable that my mother is safe and cared for well. Nice location to visit the park and river.
It's lovely to see just how happy my mother is since she came to stay. She enjoys the company and seems to have made friends. The staff always make her welcome and she enjoys all her trips out. Infact when she comes out for coffee with me she seems keen to get back in case she has missed something. The staff ensure the atmosphere in the house is welcoming and safe which has helped her settle quickly.
I have been visiting a resident here for some time and notice that on every occasion there is an overriding sense of cleanliness and the staff are friendly and helpful. As in most homes of this nature, the staff are unable to answer every resident's call bell straight away - in fact sometimes there is a long wait. I am not in s position to comment on the food, value for money/activities.
