My first visit to the care home was when I helped settle my grandmother in. We were welcomed with open arms by the management team (Rachel & Callum both) as well as the head carer (Tina). The home has a very friendly atmosphere with all the staff who couldn't be more helpful and respectful to my GM
need.
My first impression was very good and I knew that we were leaving my GM in safe hands.
I visit the home weekly and my impression has not changed. I'm welcomed by name, my GM settled in straight away (no anxiety) which was also positive. You can have an open and honest conversation with the management team and the staff have always got a smile on there faces. You can tell that everyone is looked after, the home really does care about the people living there, staff are very patient, friendly, attentive, professional. The facilities are clean and my GM is well looked after (clean, tidy, well groomed ect).
I'm so glad that my mother was recommended Hill Barn. Keep up the good work!

As a family we were concerned about having to look at mum going into a care home. The team at Hill Barn have been fantastic at every step of mum's journey so far. We were all surprised at how mum settled in but I think the caring nature of all the staff and the homely feel has really helped.

I could not be happier with the care and support my dear Dad has in your care home. As you know he loves his food & he is always given a good variety which he enjoys. I live in Devon & its such piece of mind that Dad is in your care, as I am so far away. I would like to thankyou all for
your patience & understanding also.

My friend Isobel had a difficult illness that made it hard for her to communicate and restricted her mobility. Isobel had requested a room at Hill Barn before her illness became debilitating, and she was very grateful that a room was found for her when she could no longer manage by herself. The
room was able to accommodate some furnishings from Isobel's home, including lots of pictures that were put on the walls. making the room feel homely and familiar.
The calm atmosphere at Hill Barn made Isobel feel safe and comfortable. All the staff were attentive and treated her with respect and compassion. This allowed Isobel to maintain her dignity and enjoy the company of others when she wished, or to enjoy privacy when she preferred.
I felt that the team at Hill Barn were very fond of Isobel and did everything they could to improve her quality of life. It is a great comfort to know that such caring people were with her when friends and family couldn't be there.
Thank you.

My mother, who suffers from Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, moved into Hill Barn in January 2025. I cannot speak highly enough of the standard of care she receives. Without exception, the fantastic staff are deeply caring and have helped Mum settle in and give myself and my brothers complete
peace of mind. The home's location is idyllic. It is also relatively small, which means we know Mum is receiving one-on-one care. The atmosphere is always warm and caring. There is nowhere else I would want my mother to be.

My father received fantastic care at Hill Barn. All the staff were very kind and caring and he was well looked after. He had a very big appetite and loved eating and they made sure he had all the food he wanted, sometimes having a whole second dinner. He was so happy there and they made sure he
was comfortable. I found all the staff to be very friendly, engaged and helpful, which was very reassuring and meant I didn't need to worry about him. A very big thank you to all the staff for making him feel at home and happy. You're doing a fantastic job!

My father-in-law has been a resident since May and has been well looked after by the manager and staff at Hillbarn. He keeps himself to himself and mainly in his room, but has enjoyed watching the work that has been happening to renovate the old pond in the courtyard. As he previously built and
looked after his own pond he is knowledgeable about keeping fish in a good environment. The pond redevelopment at Hillbarn has drawn him out of his room, gives him a little focus and something new to show and share with us when we visit. The team should be praised for ensuring this small benefit to the residents has remained, rather than simply be filled in (as it could have been). We look forward to seeing further improvements at Hillbarn over time.

My mother was taken into Hill Barn on 4th November 2024. The staff and management here were extremely helpful in getting her settled in and encouraged her to participate in the many activities that were arranged for residents. All staff were respectful, caring and supportive. Sadly my mother passed
away on 19th February 2025 so her stay was quiet short. We were satisfied with the care she received.

Hill Barn Care Home provides a friendly and homely environment for my mom and the staff provide a friendly and caring service to all the residents.

My mother spent the last few months of her life at Hill Barn Care Home during which time she received impeccable care and attention from all of the staff. Having lived on her own for the last nine years I was concerned that the transition, albeit necessary, was always going to be difficult. Yet it
proved to be a seamless move accomplished through the kindness and understanding displayed by all concerned. The staff swiftly established her needs and treated her with tremendous dignity and compassion in what was to become for her a safe and comfortable home. The staff were clearly well organised and demonstrated they were proficient in performing their duties. I felt confident that the treatment that my mother received was of great comfort to her.

Very good home really taking care and always happy to talk.
04 March 2025
My mother has been a resident for over 3 years and my experience has generally been good. The staff are kind and caring but it would help if there were more of them. The home keep me informed with regards to my mother's health and welfare.
There has been issues with the employment and retention of
cooks over the last year which is disappointing but possibly not a reflection on the home itself. It is difficult for me to comment on activities provided as my mother has always declined to participate in any that are provided despite encouragement from the staff.

My husband went into respite, Hill Barn last October whilst l was in hospital and in recovery afterwards, he stayed approximately 4 weeks.
He was very anti-going into the home but he loved it, so much so he did not want to come home.
The staff were very attentive, he had a nice clean room, he
enjoyed the food and the staff were always popping into his room to see if he was ok as he stayed in his room all the time (his choice).

My mum has been in Hill Barn Care Home for four and a half years now, she is well looked after all of the time. She is always happy, she does lots of activities which she loves. She is always happy with the food they give her and a big credit to the manager and her team for everything they do to
keep my mum happy.

Mum recently moved into Hill Barn, after remaining in her home with help for several years. It was a major decision and I am so pleased that we did.
Mum has settled in quickly because of the dedication of all the staff excellently led by the manager who is diligent in her care of residents and
staff.

Friendly caring home. Clean, warm and good standard of food.
Staff continuity and always willing to talk to residents and visitors.

Dad was placed here in Feb 2018 for a two week temporary placement on discharge from hospital while a long term placement was found, however he was so pleased with the staff, food and atmoshphere that when offered the option to move he chose to stay permanently.
For me that was a positive outcome,
the need to search for an alternative home was going to be difficult knowing his own thoughts on being 'placed in a home' after living independently prior to his hospital admission. The home was further away than I would have liked but the distance is compensated by Dad liking the whole experience of being at Hill Barn.
I always find the staff friendly and chatty, they can update me on Dads situation if needed.
Dad is a fussy eater and for him to enjoy the food is a good review in itself!
I have also met and chatted to the owner at one of the fetes and they came across as someone who is genuinely interested in the residents.

I visited my dear friend, (ex-neighbour), approximately once a week from the time it was no longer able to live independently. Hill Barn had been recommended to me by another of my neighbours whose mother had been a resident until her death. I suggested to my friend’s son that he should visit to
assess the suitability of Hill Barn for his father and as he was impressed, put his father on the waiting list for a room with an outdoor access.
From the day a room became available, my friend was looked after with kindness and understanding. He had his 99th birthday in October and I visited on Monday 27th January which sadly proved to be my last, as he passed away peacefully within in a week of my visit. As a retired SRN / Midwife, I thought the care from the friendly staff was excellent
