View Full Details of Edgecumbe LodgeMum was in Edgecumbe Lodge for respite care for four weeks. When she went in, she had not been eating properly, and they managed to get her eating properly, and she put on weight. The staff were amazing with Mum, making sure she was occupied and entertained. She also went out, accompanied by staff, to go shopping. She enjoyed her stay, and I hope that she can stay again when we organise the next respite period.
After a fracture to his hip my dad needed to have full time care. My son and I looked around a few care homes near to us. Edgecumbe Lodge was our choice after looking at several in the locality. Right from the very start before dad even arrived we were made so welcome by everyone there. From Director across the whole Staff. They even visited dad in his respite centre before he arrived. Since his arrival we have been blown away by the care that is given to everyone on their care. Dad is happy well fed and clean. His clothes are laundered and looked after. Whenever we visit we are made very welcome and always offered a drink. The staff are relaxed with every one and are on very easy going and friendly terms with everyone. The place is very clean always, the food looks good and dad has found his appetite again. He is happy and relaxed. I want to thank everyone for their dedication and professionalism.
Very caring staff and very good care provided to my aunt who was very happy living there. Good food, a clean and safe environment. Lots of activities for residents. Nice rooms and lovely homely accommodation.
I am at Edgecumbe Lodge 2 days a week and I am there for about 4 hours each visit. I feel happy that my mum and dad are being looked after really well and the staff truly care about them. For me, it's the care that is of paramount importance and it is definitely there. It's not just about the residents, it's about the families also. I have been supported from the first day and still am now, as it can be overwhelming at times. Things have improved hugely. When things are not perfect, we work together to resolve things. And anything I bring to the attention of any member of staff is dealt with. There is constant effort made with activities.
The care of my mother was excellent. Mum was always clean and looked after. Staff always contacted me if there was any medical issue. Staff were always doing activities with the residents, either singing or gentle physical exercise (which I participated in on one occasion!) and residents go into the garden. Family are always kept up-to-date with emailed newsletters and there are meetings and events at the home one can attend. Staff are always kind and upbeat with the residents.
Overall experience with Edgecumbe Lodge very good. Care for our dad has been great and have no issues. Staff are very compassionate and have excellent interaction with lots of activities arranged. A hiccup with the administration side arose this month. Partly to do with the Council which could have been handled more efficiently, but all resolved eventually. We have no hesitation in recommending this establishment.
My wife has been resident at Edgecumbe Lodge for three years, they care for her, who has advanced Dementia; and has lost the ability to be able to stand or walk without assistance, her personal care is a top priority of staff with a fresh change of clothes daily. Her mobility problem is overcome by using a mobile hoist to raise and lower her to bed, chair, toilet and shower, attaching the lifting harness can be a bit problematic at times; the care and assistance given is to cause her as little discomfort as possible. The care and dignity shown to the resident is no 1 priority of management and staff. The introduction of garden parties during the summer is a valuable addition for the residents; as it gives opportunities for families to mix and see the care and kindness being shown to all. My honest opinion of Edgecumbe Lodge is that owners, management and carers is to provide care, compassion and empathy to all in their care, and a welcome to all family visitors.
Delivering care, with dignity, can be a challenge. But at Edgecumbe it is done so well. Personal space is not violated. And the resident's way of life is respected. The staff have great empathy. They need to have the flexibility of approach to know what is meaningful to one, but no big deal to another, so as not to stress or upset any resident needlessly. And the caregivers here manage this so effectively, they have marvellous compassion. The staff, management team and owner, are all very caring. No one feels alone or isolated. In sum, 'dignity' means different things to different people. It is much to do with respecting personal space and an individual's self-esteem and way of life. We want our relatives to be: pain-free; clean; nicely dressed; well-fed; and never under-valued. Edgecumbe Lodge welcomes visitors and caters so well for our loved ones. The staff at Edgecumbe Lodge show great empathy, care and compassion. We could ask for nothing more. I thank them all - every one.
