Great care and professionalism and feels like a family home. A lot of effort has been made to help my parent to settle and it has been much appreciated. Staff are friendly and appear to show respect.

My mother moved to Edgecumbe Lodge as a permanent resident a week before Easter 2026. I have found the staff, without exception, to be friendly to family and caring and devoted to the residents. Unfortunately my mother was in hospital on her 97th birthday but the staff made up for it when she was discharged.
I secretly think the staff enjoy parties as much as the residents! The needs of my mother and some of the residents I have met during visits can be challenging but they are all dealt with calmly, efficiently and professionally. I think my mother summed it up perfectly when after being resident for a month she said, "When I came here I thought I would have to do more for myself, but they do EVERYTHING for me". It is of great comfort to me to know that she is being looked after so well.
Reply from Amor Salado, Home Manager at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you so much for your lovely review. We are delighted to hear that your mother has settled in so well and that you have found the team friendly, caring and dedicated.
You are absolutely right! Our staff do seem to enjoy a good celebration just as much as our residents! We believe there is always something worth celebrating, whether it's a birthday, a special occasion or simply making the most of each day together. Creating a happy and vibrant atmosphere is an important part of life at Edgecumbe Lodge.
We are pleased to support your mum with the care she needs while also encouraging her independence, choices and preferences every day. Our Health & Wellbeing Programme helps ensure residents can enjoy activities, companionship and meaningful experiences that make their days enjoyable and fulfilling.
Thank you again for your kind words and for placing your trust in our team. It means a great deal to us all.

The care given to the residents is outstanding. The staff are always on hand, keeping an eye on the residents whether to see to their needs or to offer comfort and reassurance. They are always patient and I have never observed any worrying incidents.
Reply from Elaine Sardar-Dean, Nominated Individual at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you for taking the time to leave such kind feedback about the care and support within the home. We are delighted to hear that you find our staff attentive, patient and reassuring, and that you feel confident in the care being provided to residents. We also appreciate your ratings and recognise there is room for improvement in facilities, rooms, cleanliness and food & drink. With our new maintenance person now part of the team, we are confident this will help enhance the facilities and resident rooms, with further positive changes across the home in the coming months. We also value your feedback regarding food and drink, and our Wellbeing Team will continue working closely with residents and families to explore ways to further improve choice and dining experiences.

The care home staff cannot do enough for their residents. My mother is very well looked after. There are daily activities with all residents being encouraged to take part. I am always welcomed when I visit and if I want to do something with my mother, they do all that they can to assist, even arranging
shifts to ensure that there are staff who can assist with putting mum into her wheelchair and a taxi. The staff will sit with mum and go through her photo albums with her. Overall I am very happy with the care and attention the staff give to my mother and me.
Reply from Elaine Sardar-Dean, Nominated Individual at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you for your lovely review and for sharing your experience with us. It means so much to hear that both you and your mother feel supported, welcomed and well cared for by our team. We are especially pleased that the kindness, patience and dedication of the staff have made such a positive difference, whether that is supporting outings, encouraging participation in activities or simply taking the time to sit and share meaningful moments together. These personal connections are incredibly important to us and are at the heart of the care we strive to provide every day.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated and also helps us continue to improve and develop the service we provide. We are proud of the warm and caring environment at the home and remain committed to maintaining high standards across all areas of care and support. Thank you again for your kind words and continued trust in our team.

I like the fact Edgecumbe Lodge is a smaller care home as I find it friendly and welcoming by the staff when I visit my mum who has Alzheimer's and CPOD.
The home is always immaculately clean, especially in my mums room and toilet.
Mum is always clean and dressed nicely and her need for an oxygen
machine is being met with one in her room, lounge and a portable one for when I take her out.
The food is very good and mum gets plenty of drinks and snacks throughout the day and I'm always asked if I'd like a drink when I visit.
I love the outdoor garden and the home puts on lovely events in it for the residents, visitors/family. I like that there are lots of activities done for the residents and it's all captured in a newsletter which is fun to read.
I get plenty of updates via email and instant messaging and if I have any questions the staff are happy to help which is reassuring.
Overall Edgecumbe is a very friendly and pleasant care home and my mum is happy and healthy.
Reply from Elaine Sardar-Dean, Nominated Individual at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful review. It is especially reassuring to know that the cleanliness of the home, the activities, communication with families and the overall atmosphere have made such a positive impression during your visits.
We are also always looking at ways to improve further, and with our new maintenance person now part of the team, we are confident families and residents will continue to see positive changes and improvements around the home over the coming months. A wonderful caring, safe & family environment for both residents & visitors. All the staff are very caring, patient, engaging towards my partner & myself. He is treated with dignity & fully supportive with his complex dementia condition & abilities. All the staff, the director, manager,
care staff & all other related staff at the care home go above and beyond, are both passionate & compassionate in their roles. The home, his room & clothes are always fresh & clean. The food is excellent, well cooked & varied. I also appreciate the hard work & therapy that goes into the varied social activities for the residents to add stimulus & memory boosting. This is a home from home & I could not wish for a better place for my partner. It is lovely to be able to visit at any time of the day and all are so friendly, highly trained & cheerful at all times. They are all so amazing and my personal thank you for all they do & comforting to see the stability of having regular & familiar staff here.

After a fracture to his hip my dad needed to have full time care. My son and I looked around a few care homes near to us. Edgecumbe Lodge was our choice after looking at several in the locality. Right from the very start before dad even arrived we were made so welcome by everyone there. From Director
across the whole Staff. They even visited dad in his respite centre before he arrived. Since his arrival we have been blown away by the care that is given to everyone on their care. Dad is happy well fed and clean. His clothes are laundered and looked after.
Whenever we visit we are made very welcome and always offered a drink. The staff are relaxed with every one and are on very easy going and friendly terms with everyone. The place is very clean always, the food looks good and dad has found his appetite again. He is happy and relaxed. I want to thank everyone for their dedication and professionalism.
Reply from Elaine Sardar-Dean, NI / Director of Compliance at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you so much for your kind words. I am at Edgecumbe Lodge 2 days a week and I am there for about 4 hours each visit. I feel happy that my mum and dad are being looked after really well and the staff truly care about them. For me, it's the care that is of paramount importance and it is definitely there. It's not just about the residents,
it's about the families also. I have been supported from the first day and still am now, as it can be overwhelming at times. Things have improved hugely. When things are not perfect, we work together to resolve things. And anything I bring to the attention of any member of staff is dealt with. There is constant effort made with activities.
Reply from Elaine Sardar-Dean, Director of Compliance at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you for your kind feedback. We're delighted to hear that you feel your parents are well cared for and supported, and we truly value your recognition of our team's efforts. The care of my mother was excellent. Mum was always clean and looked after. Staff always contacted me if there was any medical issue. Staff were always doing activities with the residents, either singing or gentle physical exercise (which I participated in on one occasion!) and residents go into the
garden. Family are always kept up-to-date with emailed newsletters and there are meetings and events at the home one can attend. Staff are always kind and upbeat with the residents.

Overall experience with Edgecumbe Lodge very good. Care for our dad has been great and have no issues. Staff are very compassionate and have excellent interaction with lots of activities arranged.
A hiccup with the administration side arose this month. Partly to do with the Council which could have
been handled more efficiently, but all resolved eventually.
We have no hesitation in recommending this establishment.

My wife has been resident at Edgecumbe Lodge for three years, they care for her, who has advanced Dementia; and has lost the ability to be able to stand or walk without assistance, her personal care is a top priority of staff with a fresh change of clothes daily.
Her mobility problem is overcome by
using a mobile hoist to raise and lower her to bed, chair, toilet and shower, attaching the lifting harness can be a bit problematic at times; the care and assistance given is to cause her as little discomfort as possible.
The care and dignity shown to the resident is no 1 priority of management and staff.
The introduction of garden parties during the summer is a valuable addition for the residents; as it gives opportunities for families to mix and see the care and kindness being shown to all.
My honest opinion of Edgecumbe Lodge is that owners, management and carers is to provide care, compassion and empathy to all in their care, and a welcome to all family visitors.
Reply from Elaine Sardar-Dean, Nominated Individual/Director of Compliance at Edgecumbe LodgeThank you for taking the time to share your detailed and thoughtful review of Edgecumbe Lodge. We are deeply grateful for your kind words about the care and dignity our staff strive to provide for all residents, including your wife. We understand how important it is to ensure comfort and support in all aspects of daily life and we're glad that the efforts of our team, from maintaining personal care to organising events like garden parties, have had a positive impact on your family's experience. Your mention of mobility challenges and the use of equipment like the mobile hoist is valuable feedback and we will share it with our team to assess our procedures to maintain the comfort and efficiency of the assistance we provide. Thank you once again for highlighting the compassion and dedication of our team. It is an honour to care for your wife, and we will continue to ensure her well being and dignity remains our top priorities.

Delivering care, with dignity, can be a challenge. But at Edgecumbe it is done so well. Personal space is not violated. And the resident's way of life is respected. The staff have great empathy. They need to have the flexibility of approach to know what is meaningful to one, but no big deal to another,
so as not to stress or upset any resident needlessly. And the caregivers here manage this so effectively, they have marvellous compassion. The staff, management team and owner, are all very caring. No one feels alone or isolated.
In sum, 'dignity' means different things to different people. It is much to do with respecting personal space and an individual's self-esteem and way of life. We want our relatives to be: pain-free; clean; nicely dressed; well-fed; and never under-valued. Edgecumbe Lodge welcomes visitors and caters so well for our loved ones. The staff at Edgecumbe Lodge show great empathy, care and compassion. We could ask for nothing more. I thank them all - every one.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.557) out of 10 for Edgecumbe Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.732 for Edgecumbe Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (118 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.732
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Edgecumbe Lodge is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
