View Full Details of Willan HouseMy wife recently passed away at Wllian House. The kindness and care she received was excellent. She was very happy here, and was well looked after by the staff. Who were wonderful, and cheerful all of the time. When we visited the home it has has a welcoming, happy atmosphere. Thank you for providing love, care, and attention to my wife.
From the moment the Manager of Willan House came to assess Mum's needs at home, I knew she was going to be in safe hands. Every single member of staff genuinely cared for her and dad in every way possible, making the painful transition, as her dementia took hold, as un-traumatic (both for her and us as her closest family members) as it could possibly have been. For nearly two years, the staff and other residents became Mum's new family and whilst Dad and I visited regularly. On every visit, it was clear we didn't need to worry about her that she was in the best possible place and was clearly very fond of everyone there. Although she couldn't really communicate, it was obvious she felt safe and well cared for. When she passed away and my husband and I sat with her and dad for most of the five days leading up to that most important moment, they all showed tremendous kindness and took such great care of us all. I can't speak highly enough of this care home and am so grateful it exists. Mum had a good death.
In May, we were looking for short term respite for Mum, who had had a fall & needed 24 hour care, & Willan House was highly recommended by a friend. I cannot tell you how grateful we now feel that there was a vacancy just when we needed it - & that we have been able to extend the respite. Mum was living on her own & neither my sisters nor myself live locally: Mum's happiness & safety has been a constant concern & I cannot tell you how fortunate we feel that she has been able to join the Willan House family. Willan House is a small, privately run home that truly cares. The staff know every resident by name & speak to them with genuine affection & respect. They are incredibly attentive & the manager & owner, provides regular updates on mum's health & emotional wellbeing - quietly offering her support & guidance with regard to mum's care & reinforcing the home's commitment to creating a Willan House family built on kindness, dignity, smiles and... wholesome home cooked meals!
My husband needed respite care while our home was adapted to accommodate his changing needs. He had had a short respite visit in 2024. The care then was so good that I knew he would be well looked after again, and he was happy to return. He felt comfortable with the staff, who respected his preferences and called him by his preferred name. Caring for older people can be challenging but the staff are patient and kind, and adjust their care according to patient needs and preferences. There were plenty of activities available, although my husband chose not to take part. His room was spacious and comfortable. He commented on how nice the food was. Knowing that he was getting excellent care made it easier to concentrate on everything that was needed to alter our home. I highly commend Willan House for anyone who wants top quality care for someone they love.
My wife is spending the second of two 2 week stays at Willan House following the very sudden onset of dementia. She is there to enable me to cope with the welter of paperwork that accompanies such issues and also as I have to be in hospital for a small operation. I cannot speak too highly of the staff and management of the home. It is an all-round excellent establishment. The staff are so caring, patient, have an excellent rapport with the residents, are helpful to everyone and have an excellent sense of humour, so necessary in doing this most difficult of jobs. Everyone is very welcoming whenever one visits, and, under their care, my wife's condition has improved enormously, not least through the consistent and reliable routines they have established and maintain. Words do not exist to praise them sufficiently, and I have no hesitation in giving Willan House an unreserved recommendation. My wife is only now beginning to talk about the activities, so I have not been able to rate them.
My 97 year old mother was admitted for respite, following a stay in hospital. On admission, she was very frail having had pneumonia. She was given a lovely upstairs room with ensuite facilities and wonderful views of the countryside, which immediately began to lift her spirits. She initially chose to stay in her room and had her meals and everything brought to her. The staff were very friendly and attentive, calling in regularly and promptly if she used the call button. They identified a particular dietary need which was explained and provided. This gave us, her family, confidence in their knowledge and level of care. Mum quickly put on weight and gained in confidence and mobility. It was Mum's birthday shortly after she arrived and the staff arranged a small party for family and other residents, which she really enjoyed, again showing the level of care and thoughtfulness provided. At the end of her seven week stay, she was much stronger and able to return home to live independently.
My relative has been a resident of Willan House for some time now and I can't praise them enough for the care they provide. All the staff I have met have been lovely and my relative is very happy there. The food they serve always looks delicious. They have a social media page and I get to see all the activities they are doing. The home and its staff are a credit to the owners.
My Mum has been in Willan House for just over eighteen months and I have always been very happy with the care she is given there and Mum is very content. The staff are very caring. Mum's room and the home in general are clean and tidy, warm in winter and comfortable in summer. The home always seems to be quiet and calm. Mum's diet is varied and looks to be appealing, and the staff are flexible in terms of what Mum wants to eat and when she is bed-bound. The manager is accessible and helpful. I am Mum's primary visitor and visit regularly, and even though it is a round-trip of almost a hundred miles for me, twice a week! I wouldn't dream of trying to move Mum closer to me as I am sure that she couldn't get better care than in Willan House.
My mum has been at Willan House since November 2022. I can honestly say it is the best move we ever made. The care and compassion the staff and management have shown her is above and beyond what we expected, from previous experience at bigger homes. They are very patient and caring with her and keep us up to date with her progress. She took a while to settle in but they didn't give up on her even when things were sometimes difficult. They reviewed her medication regularly and speak to GPs weekly. The food is fresh home cooked, the whole place has a real homely feel about it.
My mum has been a resident of Willan House Care Home for two years now and we are delighted with the wonderful level of care she receives. The staff are all lovely and very kind. They take the time to really get to know the residents and Mum clearly feels very content in their care. Mum enjoys the tasty home cooked food which varies daily and is adapted to personal taste if necessary. Mum always looks well groomed and enjoys having her hair done weekly. There is a range of activities that Mum can choose to join should she wish to. Willan House provides a warm, homely and comfortable home from home. Our many thanks go to both the management and staff for all they do for our lovely Mum!
My grandmother has been a resident of Willan House for the last few years and unfortunately passed this week. The staff provided incredible care to her throughout her stay and were so welcoming to us, particularly over her final weeks. They are empathetic, kind and very knowledgeable about their residents. The decades of experience show in not only skill and competence, but bedside manner also. Willan House has made me feel more secure about my friends, family and myself reaching those later years because I now know there are retirement communities out there that show their residents the respect and care they deserve and go above and beyond!
My mother in law has been a resident of Willan House for over two years now and the level of care given to her by the staff I would say is outstanding, their approach being friendly without being patronising with everything being done to make the residents feel as though they at home rather than in a home. Activities are organised scaled to the individual resident's abilities, the rooms are comfortable and clean and the meals are of good quality but perhaps most importantly whenever I have visited I have found the atmosphere to be happy and relaxed which is no small achievement on the staff's part given the amount of care on offer to residents. I would not hesitate to recommend Willan House to others for the care of their own loved ones.
My mum has been in Willan House for 6 years, she has always had top care. The home is clean, the staff are second to none, always ready to help. The meals are 5-star. If you need a care home for a loved one just take a look at Willan House, you wont be disappointed.
Lovely family-oriented home. Super Staff.
My aunt who is 93 years old has vascular dementia, and as a resident at Willan House has received excellent care. The staff are warm, friendly, caring and highly skilled at interacting with the residents. In addition to the essential care received, I feel that my aunt has had a more stimulating and active social life in the home than I have in the past 18 months! I am happy to heartily recommend this family-run home.
I cannot thank everyone enough for the care that is given to my dad, and over the past 12 months we have been kept well informed of everything. I think the residents have had a better social life than most with all the fun activities they have been up to. I have loved seeing all the photos. Thank you Willan, as always, going above and beyond. Not just a care home, an extended family.
Staff friendly, attentive to residents, cleaning to high standard and personal care also very good.
If your loved one is not able to care for themselves in their own home Willan House is the best next thing! The care is wonderful - all the staff are lovely and really look after the residents so well in every way. My mum has dementia so we wanted to make sure she was somewhere that we didn’t need to worry about and to know that she was being well looked after and Willan House is just that! A home from home filled with lovely caring staff. They have done a fantastic job during the last challenging year and have helped us to stay in touch and visit mum as much as we were able to. It has been so reassuring knowing that she was in such safe hands when we were unable to see her as often as would have liked to. I would have no hesitation in recommending the home to other families currently looking for somewhere for their loved ones to go if they require full-time care. They will get this and so much more!
I last reviewed Willan House in February 2020 and my goodness what a time we have had since then! I wanted to do an updated review now we are getting more to ‘near normal’! I mentioned in my previous review that Willan House has always been absolutely marvellous and during Covid-19 they have gone above and beyond yet again during such a difficult time. We had regular updates throughout from the Manager and as we were not able to visit mum due to restrictions, this was so reassuring. When we were able to see mum with a window visit, all staff were wearing full PPE, again so reassuring. The staff had a big smile on their faces and so did Mum also. We are so pleased we found Willan House for mum as it gave us the confidence to relax knowing she was being well looked after and happy even though we couldn’t go and visit her for a while. I just wanted to let people know that if they were considering Willan House, I would highly recommend and this is a credit to the amazing staff.
What a wonderful care home for our lovely mum. She is so well looked after and over the last year even though we haven't been able to be with mum we can see how well she has been cared for. The staff go over and above to keep their residents happy and engaged and activities are always available. The food is also really well made and yesterday for the first time in over a year I was able to feed my mum her lunch which was a gorgeous sweet and sour pork vegetables and rice and banoffee pie for dessert! Mum loved it. Thank you so much for all you do and for all the amazing care you give to your residents.
