My mother has settled well and is happy and smiley when I visit. I call in most days and staff are always welcoming. I couldn't ask for better staff to be looking after my mother.

My mother has been in Bruce Lodge for almost 11yrs and in that time both the staff and other residents relatives have become like a second family it really is a friendly place. I've had no qualms about my mothers care i know they keep a close eye on her health and are quick to get medical help if
needed.,and I feel quite welcome whenever I go whatever the time. She still enjoys a lot of the activities especially the singers.

My Mum first came to Bruce Lodge D2A after a short spell in hospital. After being assessed it was determined that full-time care was necessary and Mum made the decision herself that she wanted to live permanently at Bruce Lodge. As we live a distance away we greatly appreciated the way everyone
helped us to make the transition smooth for Mum. We were encouraged to put personal touches in her room and she has a wonderful view of the garden and trees which she loves. The staff have gone out of their way to help her settle in (the two Matts and Andrea make for a very good senior team) and have coped brilliantly when things have become a bit tricky with her (due to the Alzheimers). The food is always lovely and Gemma went to a lot of trouble to make Mum's 90th a special event. I know Mum enjoys the entertainment and her recent visit to the cinema has been much talked about with her visitors. We are very pleased with how Mum has settled into Bruce Lodge.

My brother-in-law has been in Bruce Lodge since October 2025. I have to say it's one of the best care homes I have come across and my B-in-L has settled in really well. The home layout is so much better than the conventional care home style due to the smaller unit layouts and it seems to help
resident settle in better and not feel overwhelmed by large numbers of people in one big room. The rooms are a decent size with on-suite facilities and there is a good structure of events throughout each month to ensure residents are stimulated and there is plenty on offer if residents do want to engage. My only gripe is getting access when the reception is closed. Due to work commitments we can only visit in the evening and weekends and it can take quite some time for somebody to let you in. However, we understand the reasons for this, but if there was anyway to address this that would be great. Overall, this is an excellent care home with friendly caring staff and I would totally recommend it.

Bruce Lodge is an absolutely outstanding facility. My dad was lucky enough to be transferred to BL from hospital, initially for assessment. How lucky we were !
Once it has been established that he would need permanent residential care, we visited many others in the area.
As many of the other
reviews have said, the facilities, the food and in particular, the staff of Bruce Lodge are second to none in my opinion. We count ourselves extremely lucky that a place was available for dad.
We feel completely at ease that Dad is being very well cared for by the excellent staff who have made every effort to develop a close and very friendly relationship with him. There is an evident and excellent level of Banter between the staff and residents generally, which I feel is a massive bonus. We are very grateful to all at BL.

Really happy with the care my father is experiencing at Bruce Lodge. From the Assessment Unit through to permanent residence, all staff have been caring, helpful and attentive. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I visit Bruce Lodge almost everyday and I must say how impressed I am with all aspects of the residence. The premises are spotlessly clean and fresh, the staff are caring and helpful and do a great job, I'm so grateful because they never stop although it must be tough at times.
I'm looking forward
to Spring and Summer so that we can take advantage of the lovely outdoor spaces.

My mother came firstly into DtoA from hospital. She was looked after very well by all staff we decided when advised she needed full time care to moved her full time into Bruce Lodge. I look round approx 15 homes and found Bruce Lodge to be the only one I felt comfortable leaving my mum with. The
building layout is perfect, nice & contained & safe. lovely bedroom. Food great. The staff I have formed a talking relationship with who look after Mum are excellent, very approachable, friendly & professional. I sometimes think there needs to be an extra person on a unit the poor things constantly have to open door to visitors. My only gripe - I feel family member should be given a code on a monthly basis to use if visiting regularly.

Lovely Care Home, the Best Ive seen.
Ive Been visiting my father for 9 years and watched this home grow and grow into a very caring environment for all the residents. The level of care and the setting especially in the last 2 years is commendable. The commitment from staff is lovely to see,
accompanied by compassionate senior care staff then topped with super deputy staff day and night, along with the manager, is second to none. All very caring and happy to help at any time.
Its a very safe place with locked safety doors that only staff can use with codes ensuring safety at every level.
The cleanliness is exceptional with in house managed laundry system.
The food is beautiful catering for all required needs.
Entertainment is lovely, focused on singers, arts and crafts along with trips out to shows, cinema, coffee mornings, exercises, pampering sessions.
Beautiful gardens with benches and flowers in the summer.
I wouldn't want my father anywhere else.
He is so cared for and loved.

My mum has Alzheimer's & has been a resident of Bruce Lodge for two & a half years now. I can honestly say that her care has been exemplary. The staff are very caring and personable, I have a fantastic relationship with her direct carers & seniors.Mum is a bit of a character and they definitely
bring out the best in her! The entertainment & activities are brilliant, the atmosphere in Bruce Lodge is very warm & welcoming.
I also feel that I am kept up to date & informed of anything regarding mum's wellbeing on a professional basis too.
The rooms are bright & airy and the housekeeping staff do a great job too.
I would definitely recommend Bruce Lodge to any relative needing their loved one to be cared for

My Godmother came to Bruce Lodge in May 2025. It is purpose built, very modern, clean and with lovely gardens. Her room is bright and airy. The meals always look nice and her dietary requirements catered for. All the staff are polite and friendly and work incredibly hard. Nothing is too much
trouble. When she has required a Doctor this is acted upon very quickly and I have always been kept very informed. The staff have got to know my Godmother well and I feel that I have got to know the staff well too. As a visitor you are always made to feel welcome. They have a great entertainment programme too with trips out, singers, visits to the park. I am happy that my Godmother has settled in so quickly at Bruce lodge and is being well cared for.

My mum was in Bruce Lodge for two and a half years and we were very pleased with the care she received.
Mum had dementia and wasn't able to fully engage with the various activities Bruce Lodge put on but for those that could, trips to the seaside, zoo, cinema and pub were really appreciated.
Mum's care was exemplary. She was treated as an individual and having her hair done, nails painted and a pedicure made her feel special.
When mum was in the final stages of life, not only did she receive care but also love. We cannot express how much we appreciate what the staff did for her. Thank you so much.

2 years ago I had a heartbreaking decision to make regarding my parents it wasn't any easy one at that .
My father was admitted at first to Bruce lodge for respite as my mum had broken her hip and was admitted to hospital she was the main carer for my dad who had Alzheimer's/
vascular dementia we
all worked so it was difficult to look after him . unfortunately my mum then was diagnosed with dementia and was asking all the time for my dad so I thought it would be lovely for them to be back together again as they were never apart . Sadly my dad passed away 2024 the care Bruce lodge provided was lovely they all loved him so much. now my mum is on her own bless her still at Bruce lodge and again couldn't fault the care provided everyone is so kind and respectful she goes out on lots of trips has made new friends all thanks to the lovely staff , she has her hair and nails cut on a regular basis loves the food (a bit too much ha ha)and has the odd glass of wine .
Thank you so much

The staff at Bruce Lodge have worked so hard in helping my mum settle in. They have been patient and gently encouraged her to take part in activities, whilst taking time out of their day to sit and chat to her about any worries or concerns she may have. They have formed a trusting relationship and
friendship with her which is lovely to see. The home is always very clean and the bedrooms/bathroom kept spotless. All the staff, including carers, admin, kitchen, cleaning etc., always have a smile and a quick chat when they are passing through.

Overall, I think Bruce Lodge has improved in recent months. There are lots of activities for residents and the standard of medical care is good.
My mother seems happy when I see her, the food is good and I have no complaints about her care. The staff are all friendly and caring.

I continue to be very satisfied with the care my mum is receiving and my mum is content to be at Bruce Lodge. I am always informed of any problems and the staff are caring and cheerful. My mum's room always looks clean and smells fresh. The food and presentation of the table settings etc are always
good. There is a great variety of events and activities for those who wish to participate.
I look forward to attending the coffee mornings for relatives which is a great idea.
Thank you to the team at Bruce Lodge.
08 April 2024
It's great to see management at Bruce Lodge more settled. They have been more proactive in organising activities for residents and communicating with relatives. Also, there seems to be a more receptive appreciation of relations voices, ideas and comments about staffing and quality of care.
There
is a friendly atmosphere which can only improve the environment for visiting families and more importantly for residents.
08 April 2024
In the main the care home is good and provides satisfactory care for residents. There are some staff that are excellent at dealing with residents but there are others that do not readily interact with them and seem to prefer to sit at the table on their phones.
That said, around 85% of staff are
attentive.

I have no complaints so far. Staff are friendly. I can't think of anything else to say.

Every effort is made to keep Mum clean, comfortable and safe. Mum's mobility has declined from a walker to being in a wheelchair mostly which has made her legs weaker but she has gained weight too as a consequence. Did mention her slurred speech and maybe an underactive thyroid medication review and
this was dealt with the very next day. A cough was immediately picked up with a visit to A&E next day. I stayed with Mum until her return. Mum mentioned not liking the menu she’s eating at the moment. I’m unsure why but it has already been noted on her medical information that her appetite is poor/needs encouragement. She has gone off soup completely which really surprised me, as this was one of her favourite comfort foods (apart from chocolate and biscuits). I have noticed she doesn’t lean far enough forward when eating so food drips on her clothes. Maybe a napkin or bib could be used. Mum's room is always clean. Mum is asked to engage with activities but needs far more encouragement here.
