View Full Details of Starr HillsOur dad has been a resident at Starr Hills since Oct 2024. Following a 3 month stay in hospital last year, he had lost the ability (and confidence) to walk and still hadn't made a full recovery prior to arriving at Starr Hills. In the first few weeks the improvement in our dad's health was nothing short of a miracle. He went from strength to strength. The care and support he received from all the staff was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble. Dad loved it so much that he decided not to return to his house and to make Starr Hills his new home. That care and support has continued and now he can walk as fast as me albeit with a walker. He is happy, well and content. He takes part in the activities which he really enjoys and appreciates the friendships he has made with both carers and residents. Our family will always be eternally grateful to Starr Hills as without them we are not sure he would have fully recovered. You have all given him a new lease of life and we couldn't be happier
Our dad came to Star Hills 8 months ago after being very ill for 6 months, as well as being bed bound, depressed and having lost 23kg in weight. Our dad has made a miraculous improvement. It didn't take him long to start walking with assistance and again not much longer to start walking on his own. Dad soon regained his appetite and has put some wait back on. We firmly believe that if it wasn't for the fantastic care and attention (and great food) that he has received at Star Hills, he would no longer be with us. Dad loves what he calls his new home, and see's the management and staff as his friends. He loves joining in with the activities and reminiscing with the other residents. He loves the garden and the summer house. He loves loves his room, the independence that he has been encouraged to have. We have gone from being worried sick every day, to being totally relaxed in the knowledge that dad is being so well looked after and is so happy. We couldn't praise Star Hills enough.
My mother has early stage dementia & was very much on a downhill track until Starr Hills reversed that situation, thankfully & much appreciated. They have given her back her mojo for life with their truely loving, caring, inclusive attitude at every level from management, personnel, buildings, quality, food , systems......just an amazing !! Well done all of you & thank you - i am certain that without them, she would not be here !!
At Starr Hills there are always friendly helpful peronnel at every level of the business My mother is treated with respect and laughter, and there are many activites going on daily to become involved in. Any medical concerns are dealt with swiftly and kept a close eye on.
Mum was needing more care than my father and family could no longer give and Starr Hills welcomed Mum with the kindness and compassion needed for the next stage of her life. My elderly Dad visits her every day, and even though there has been a distinct deterioration in her health, all the staff are attentive and caring for her needs. We visited a number of homes in this area, but we are grateful Starr Hills had a place for mum. We are delighted with most of the staff and more important the care she is receiving. The social aspect and entertainment is first class and even though mum can no longer be involved, the entertainment manager goes out of her way to talk and interact with Mum. Communication between Management, staff and residents is excellent.
My friend is a resident. All encounters with staff that I have, when visiting, are positive. The residents have a wide range of activities and the large garden is used by all. The chefs cater for all tastes with plenty of variety and make special days such as birthdays and Easter/Christmas full of treats . Overall I highly recommend Starr Hills.
I can't speak highly enough about Starr Hills management and staff. My mum has been resident there for several years now and her needs have changed over time. The staff are always responsive to the changes and are kind and compassionate to mum. As a family we feel very lucky that Starr Hills are caring for mum and have complete confidence in the care they provide to her.
Our mum spent the last 10 months of her life residing at Starr Hills and although it was hard for her at first, she soon came to call it home. This is a testament to how warm and welcoming the staff are and the care she received was secon to none. As daughters, we were also made to feel part of the Staff Hills family. We cannot say enough how wonderful every member of staff is and thank you so much.
Myself and resident mum are both extremely pleased with the care and attention given at Starr Hills. The staff and management team are consistently friendly, professional, helpful and caring. The staff are patient and understanding. The food is delicious and well prepared with a good variety, very clean and very warm and comfortable for mum. Activities varied and engaging. The activities co-ordinator is so friendly, kind and enthusiastic. I have peace of mind that my mum is truly cared for here. I receive regular updates. The staff have been very supportive to mum when she needs the district nurse and changes to medication. I know my mum is happy and well cared for here which gives me peace of mind. I highly recommend Starr Hills to other families.
Trying to find an appropriate home for your loved one is so hard. On walking into Starr Hills I felt it had such a relaxed homely feel. Staff were smiley and friendly. My father moved into Starr Hills and settled very quickly. He is in his 100th year, very independent and mentally very sharp. A new lease of life has been given to him by the excellent activities coordinator. He has given talks and learnt IT from a local school.
My father has been in Starr Hills in Ansdell for 14 months. He had lived independently until the age of 93 with some help from family and carers. We moved Dad in initially for respite care as we were going on holiday and I worried about his wellbeing whilst we were away. After 2 weeks Dad decided he did not want to go home. The home is in a beautiful building, the staff are all very friendly compassionate people. There are lots of great activities throughout the day varying from history lectures to quizzes, musical recitals and bingo, so something for everyone. The residents are treated with respect and dignity by all staff. Visitors can pop in at any time to visit family members. I pop in regularly to see Dad without any problems. Starr Hills has a welcoming friendly atmosphere. And the food looks great. I had a tour of Starr Hills with the manager prior to Dad moving Dad in. My wife came with me and we both commented we'd live there. Probably the best you can say.
Great advice and assistance from the team in making decisions for our Mum over the Christmas period. The care received ongoing is really close and personal. Mum has been extremely well looked after since making the huge decision to leave the family home, where she was struggling to cope with everyday duties, she is very settled and happy there.
Mum was reluctant to move to residential care. Starr Hills provided the perfect starting place. The caring team worked hard to make sure that her needs were met and were definitely the right fit for someone starting on their residential journey. The environment and activities helped her to settle and the staff were helpful in outlining her needs.
The care and attention shown to Mum by all the team, care, admin, kitchen and facilities at Starr Hills is top notch. They have taken time to listen, observe and respond to her individual needs and go out of their way to encourage her to participate in activities and socialise with other residents. It's evident that the staff talk to each other about and for the benefit of residents daily life. My wife commented that residents are treated as guests.
Staff very resident focused, treating all as a family whilst caring for them. Social activities very inclusive with plenty of variety. Continually challenging aspects to move forward. Food and rooms are excellent.
My Father has been treated as an individual. Warmth and friendliness has been shown by the staff and to ourselves - my husband and myself. A positive atmosphere prevails! Availability of newspapers from Lancashire and magazines. Rooms bland - need a little colour. Food much homemade soup - sardines, maceral, trippers, and more vegetables; leeches, spinach, broccoli, courgettes, and salads. Less sugary items.
A wonderful care home that is just that - a home full of care for all the residents. The activities are varied, stimulating and enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. We really appreciate all the musical activities and the attractive gardens with several places to sit, even in variable weather. Finally, the encouragement for interaction and forming friendships between residents is great.
The resident is happy there. The staff are friendly and helpful and kind. There are lots of interesting activities going on. We enjoyed the history talk and organ playing. The resident has made some friends. The food looks interesting and smells good. The gardens are pleasant. The staff were awake and were out there and gave us tea.
Really impressed with the home and the staff.
Fantastic home from home. Great atmosphere and facilities. Mum is really looked after and cared for. We wouldn't wish for a better care home.
