View Full Details of Whiston Hall LtdMum was always adamant that she would never move into a carehome. However, after becoming actually ill she was discharged first home and then Whiston in a NHS funded bed. She settled straight away and decided she didn't want to go home as she liked the home and felt safe. The carers, seniors and management are caring. competent and hard working. They do not hesitate to seek help if mum is actively ill and provide excellent support during and after hospital admissions. Mum's only gruble is that the cooked meals are variable in quality. I have visited many care homes and Whiston sits with the best of them.
Staff are friendly and polite. The once carer has an exceptional sense of humour. Always checking in on my mother. Her clothes are kept clean and ironed. There are very good communication between my mother and the staff members. Another member of staff in particular, stands out.
The staff at Whiston Hall are amazing, my mums been in their care for 3 years in that time, she has been looked after with care and consideration. She has a few health issues, but management and the team keep a close eye on her and know when she isn't herself. We couldn't ask for anything else
My husband was admitted for respite care which we hoped to make permanent. Sadly despite much kindness from all the staff he did not settle and had to be moved elsewhere.
I cannot praise the staff who work at 'Whiston Hall' enough. They are all friendly and very hardworking. They are all up to date in the latest training in regards to manual handling, diet and fluids, mouth care, and pressure care. I am grateful that my father, who has advanced Parkinsons, is able to spend his last few months here.
The staff are excellent, caring & loving to all the residents. Since my friend came to Whiston Hall, she has gone from strength to strength due to all the staff & support and I cannot thank them. The management is putting things forward to update facilities which is now showing and making a difference. I can only recommend Whiston Hall highly.
My relative seems reasonably happy with the care home. He doesn't join in any of the activities due to his illnesses, he does however receive encouragement from the staff, but is happy to stay in his own surroundings, where he feels comfortable. The staff and Manager are very friendly, approachable and do their best to help and keep us up to date with everything.
I found the home & staff caring and pleasant. Mum feels safe, content and pleased with every aspect. Full marks.
Just to say so very happy, my mum loves it and is really happy and settled. We are able to ask about anything we need to check and always get an answer. Everything is lovely. That's so so much.
Had a brilliant afternoon yesterday, the care home arranged for a singer to entertain the residents. The music was good, staff, residents and families all joined in. It was lovely to see the residents smiling and singing, I think that makes it all worth the hard work that the staff put into it. Keep it up and a big thank you.
Having visited my mum in the home today 15/08/2024, it was nice to see they had a singer on who was fantastic with the residents, getting them to sing and interact with her, they really enjoyed it and so did I. A big thank you to all that organised it and hopefully she will return soon.
My mum is happy at Whiston Hall. She sometimes grumbles but I can tell that she is thriving through the social interaction with the staff and other residents. The staff are kind and my mum has told me that she feels that they treat her with respect and she in turn respects them. She didn't want to sell her bungalow but she is the first to admit now that it's better and safer where she is. I'll highlight a couple of examples of what I feel is good practice. Mum has always had pet dogs and I know she misses this aspect of her old life. I was so pleased to find out that visits from family pets are encouraged and I have brought my spaniel in to visit several times. It's lovely to see Mum's face light up when she sees him. On another subject, I noticed today that the skin on Mum's lower legs is in much better condition than it was in the past. Clearly, someone has taken the time to assess her needs and appropriate care is being given.
Mum has been here a while now and she's doing great. At 94 she has problems with mobility and all her needs are cared for. Never had any problems in the time she's been here but the small situations we have had were soon sorted. New management is making changes which are having a positive effect. Lots of activities for residents to join in if they wish.
The 5 stars go to the care that Mum has received over the last couple of months, Mum has been in Whiston Hall Care Home for a couple of months now and I feel that I need to say what a difference the last couple of months have made: Mum is much brighter in herself; she isn't frightened or anxious anymore; she has made friends which is remarkable for someone who, just a few months ago, was alone and scared at home with no friends. Mum has the colour back in her cheeks, it's so reassuring, for my sisters and me, to see. We know that she is in a supportive, caring environment with friendly, approachable staff who are trying so hard.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting my mother-in-law and I cannot express how impressed I am with the exceptional level of care and compassion provided to the residents. The facilities offer a comfortable and homely environment. The rooms are spacious, bright, and thoughtfully furnished. The communal areas are equally inviting, encouraging social interaction and a sense of community. The staff take the time to understand each person's unique needs and preferences, providing personalized care that goes above and beyond. It's clear that they are not just employees, but true companions to the residents. The activities and programs available are diverse and engaging, catering to a wide range of interests and abilities. From arts and crafts to music sessions and fitness classes, there is always something enjoyable happening. The meals are nutritious, delicious, and beautifully presented.
We as a family thought that moving mum local to us all would make our visits and subsequent trips out much better. The problems were numerous and there was a quick turnover of managers and the one we had dealt with prior and on mum's first day was actually on her last couple of days of work. Therefore we had numerous conversations with the new manager who started work on the same day as mum. I noticed lots of basics not being met and mum deteriorating in herself. Mum has combined Alzheimer's and dementia along with osteoarthritis in both knees so she needed a wheelchair and hoist. Mum was the only resident like this and mum also had a hospital avoidance in place that was not actioned therefore an unnecessary A&E visit. On the Monday before I moved mum from the home, mum was having a suspected stroke when it was Vasovagal syndrome and the manager had this information in advance, mum was back to her usual self once food was provided and a suitable drink. Mum isn't diabetic.
Mother-in-law has been living here almost a year now. Any issues we have had have been sorted swiftly and effectively. Always clean and tidy. Staff helpful and friendly. We always feel welcome whenever we visit whatever time we come.
Fantastic experience up to now, my nan has really settled in well given the change in circumstances. The manager is very approachable, friendly and engaging with the residents and their families along with his staff. I can see how he is trying to improve the care home already by implementing nice touches to make it more homely. Staff are also helpful with any needs or requirements and are very friendly and approachable. They have employed an activities coordinator who is always milling around entertaining and chatting to the residents which is nice to see.
My mum-in-law moved in two and a half years ago. Communication is generally good with keeping us updated if Mum has any health issues. More recently there appears to be more activities happening, such as music and craft activities which I feel is very beneficial for Mum. The care home staff are friendly and caring and the regular staff appear to have a warm relationship and are astute to her needs. The environment of the care home feels like a home rather than a clinical institution which I feel is a plus point. It has a lovely outlook. The new manager has gone out of his way to speak to us on our visits. He is keen to tackle some refurbishment which the home would benefit from. However, this should not detract from the ethos and care provided. I would recommend Whiston Hall and Mum is happy and well cared for there.
Difficult to comment on management because of recent changes, however everyone that I have spoken to has been extremely helpful. My main area of observation would be a delay in gaining entry and exit to the building at times - I am concerned that the staff are busy doing more important work and I was wondering if this could be done in a different way to limit disruption, particularly at busy times. I have always found the staff very helpful and approachable.
