Whiston Hall offers residential and early stages dementia care to people who are 55 and over. The home also provides respite care to enable family carers to recharge their batteries. The home has launched a day care service to help local people to make new friends and enjoy a wide range of activities.

The team uses the latest person-centred software (PCS) and works with residents and family members to create customised care plans that reflect each person's cultural, spiritual and emotional preferences.

Whiston Hall is wheelchair accessible and there are call alarms in each room to make sure every resident has access to assistance whenever they need it.

Working with healthcare professionals, district nurses and physiotherapists, the team at Whiston Hall ensure that residents continue to receive the appropriate care. Mum was always adamant that she would never move into a carehome. However, after becoming actually ill she was discharged first home and then Whiston in a NHS funded bed. She settled straight away and decided she didn't want to go home as she liked the home and felt safe. The carers, seniors and management
are caring. competent and hard working. They do not hesitate to seek help if mum is actively ill and provide excellent support during and after hospital admissions. Mum's only gruble is that the cooked meals are variable in quality. I have visited many care homes and Whiston sits with the best of them.

Staff are friendly and polite. The once carer has an exceptional sense of humour. Always checking in on my mother. Her clothes are kept clean and ironed. There are very good communication between my mother and the staff members. Another member of staff in particular, stands out.

The staff at Whiston Hall are amazing, my mums been in their care for 3 years in that time, she has been looked after with care and consideration. She has a few health issues, but management and the team keep a close eye on her and know when she isn't herself. We couldn't ask for anything else

My husband was admitted for respite care which we hoped to make permanent. Sadly despite much kindness from all the staff he did not settle and had to be moved elsewhere.

I cannot praise the staff who work at 'Whiston Hall' enough. They are all friendly and very hardworking. They are all up to date in the latest training in regards to manual handling, diet and fluids, mouth care, and pressure care. I am grateful that my father, who has advanced Parkinsons, is able to
spend his last few months here.

The staff are excellent, caring & loving to all the residents. Since my friend came to Whiston Hall, she has gone from strength to strength due to all the staff & support and I cannot thank them.

My relative seems reasonably happy with the care home. He doesn't join in any of the activities due to his illnesses, he does however receive encouragement from the staff, but is happy to stay in his own surroundings, where he feels comfortable. The staff and Manager are very friendly, approachable
and do their best to help and keep us up to date with everything.

Had a brilliant afternoon yesterday, the care home arranged for a singer to entertain the residents.
The music was good, staff, residents and families all joined in.
It was lovely to see the residents smiling and singing, I think that makes it all worth the hard work that the staff put into it.

Having visited my mum in the home today 15/08/2024, it was nice to see they had a singer on who was fantastic with the residents, getting them to sing and interact with her, they really enjoyed it and so did I. A big thank you to all that organised it and hopefully she will return soon.

My mum is happy at Whiston Hall. She sometimes grumbles but I can tell that she is thriving through the social interaction with the staff and other residents. The staff are kind and my mum has told me that she feels that they treat her with respect and she in turn respects them. She didn't want to sell
her bungalow but she is the first to admit now that it's better and safer where she is. I'll highlight a couple of examples of what I feel is good practice.
Mum has always had pet dogs and I know she misses this aspect of her old life. I was so pleased to find out that visits from family pets are encouraged and I have brought my spaniel in to visit several times. It's lovely to see Mum's face light up when she sees him.
On another subject, I noticed today that the skin on Mum's lower legs is in much better condition than it was in the past. Clearly, someone has taken the time to assess her needs and appropriate care is being given.

Mum has been here a while now and she's doing great. At 94 she has problems with mobility and all her needs are cared for. Never had any problems in the time she's been here but the small situations we have had were soon sorted. New management is making changes which are having a positive effect.

The 5 stars go to the care that Mum has received over the last couple of months,
Mum has been in Whiston Hall Care Home for a couple of months now and I feel that I need to say what a difference the last couple of months have made: Mum is much brighter in herself; she isn't frightened or anxious anymore;
she has made friends which is remarkable for someone who, just a few months ago, was alone and scared at home with no friends. Mum has the colour back in her cheeks, it's so reassuring, for my sisters and me, to see. We know that she is in a supportive, caring environment with friendly, approachable staff who are trying so hard.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting my mother-in-law and I cannot express how impressed I am with the exceptional level of care and compassion provided to the residents.
The facilities offer a comfortable and homely environment. The rooms are spacious, bright, and thoughtfully furnished. The communal
areas are equally inviting, encouraging social interaction and a sense of community.
The staff take the time to understand each person's unique needs and preferences, providing personalized care that goes above and beyond. It's clear that they are not just employees, but true companions to the residents.
The activities and programs available are diverse and engaging, catering to a wide range of interests and abilities. From arts and crafts to music sessions and fitness classes, there is always something enjoyable happening.
The meals are nutritious, delicious, and beautifully presented.

We as a family thought that moving mum local to us all would make our visits and subsequent trips out much better. The problems were numerous and there was a quick turnover of managers and the one we had dealt with prior and on mum's first day was actually on her last couple of days of work. Therefore
we had numerous conversations with the new manager who started work on the same day as mum.
I noticed lots of basics not being met and mum deteriorating in herself. Mum has combined Alzheimer's and dementia along with osteoarthritis in both knees so she needed a wheelchair and hoist. Mum was the only resident like this and mum also had a hospital avoidance in place that was not actioned therefore an unnecessary A&E visit. On the Monday before I moved mum from the home, mum was having a suspected stroke when it was Vasovagal syndrome and the manager had this information in advance, mum was back to her usual self once food was provided and a suitable drink. Mum isn't diabetic.

The wellbeing of all our residents is absolutely paramount to us and we take every concern raised very seriously. We are saddened by your poor review of our home. We have recorded one instance where you raised concerns about Mum's room and fees, which was resolved to your satisfaction. We have reviewed Mum's care records which show that Mum gained weight while with us. During an episode of a sudden drop in blood pressure (ie vasovagal episode), we contacted the NHS 111 service who despatched paramedics to the home, after sharing the hospital avoidance plan they consulted the on-call GP service who decided that the safest course of action was to take Mum to A&E. We kept you apprised of the situation and have recorded that you shared no concerns over the course of action we took in Mum's best interest. Your Mum is missed at the home and we send our best regards for her continued well-being. Our door is always open should you wish to discuss any aspect of her care.

Mother-in-law has been living here almost a year now. Any issues we have had have been sorted swiftly and effectively. Always clean and tidy. Staff helpful and friendly. We always feel welcome whenever we visit whatever time we come.

Fantastic experience up to now, my nan has really settled in well given the change in circumstances. The manager is very approachable, friendly and engaging with the residents and their families along with his staff. I can see how he is trying to improve the care home already by implementing nice touches
to make it more homely.
Staff are also helpful with any needs or requirements and are very friendly and approachable.
They have employed an activities coordinator who is always milling around entertaining and chatting to the residents which is nice to see.

My mum-in-law moved in two and a half years ago. Communication is generally good with keeping us updated if Mum has any health issues. More recently there appears to be more activities happening, such as music and craft activities which I feel is very beneficial for Mum. The care home staff are friendly
and caring and the regular staff appear to have a warm relationship and are astute to her needs. The environment of the care home feels like a home rather than a clinical institution which I feel is a plus point. It has a lovely outlook.
The new manager has gone out of his way to speak to us on our visits. He is keen to tackle some refurbishment which the home would benefit from. However, this should not detract from the ethos and care provided. I would recommend Whiston Hall and Mum is happy and well cared for there.

Difficult to comment on management because of recent changes, however everyone that I have spoken to has been extremely helpful.
My main area of observation would be a delay in gaining entry and exit to the building at times - I am concerned that the staff are busy doing more important work and I was
wondering if this could be done in a different way to limit disruption, particularly at busy times.
I have always found the staff very helpful and approachable.
