The 5 stars go to the care that Mum has received over the last couple of months,
Mum has been in Whiston Hall Care Home for a couple of months now and I feel that I need to say what a difference the last couple of months have made: Mum is much brighter in herself; she isn't frightened or anxious anymore;
she has made friends which is remarkable for someone who, just a few months ago, was alone and scared at home with no friends. Mum has the colour back in her cheeks, it's so reassuring, for my sisters and me, to see. We know that she is in a supportive, caring environment with friendly, approachable staff who are trying so hard.
Reply from Chris Bott, Home Manager at Whiston Hall LtdThank you for your lovely review of our home, it is much appreciated. Mum is a joy to care for and we are so happy to read your comments. We will share these and the scores with our staff team, they will be over the moon. Wishing you all the best.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting my mother-in-law and I cannot express how impressed I am with the exceptional level of care and compassion provided to the residents.
The facilities offer a comfortable and homely environment. The rooms are spacious, bright, and thoughtfully furnished. The communal
areas are equally inviting, encouraging social interaction and a sense of community.
The staff take the time to understand each person's unique needs and preferences, providing personalized care that goes above and beyond. It's clear that they are not just employees, but true companions to the residents.
The activities and programs available are diverse and engaging, catering to a wide range of interests and abilities. From arts and crafts to music sessions and fitness classes, there is always something enjoyable happening.
The meals are nutritious, delicious, and beautifully presented.

We as a family thought that moving mum local to us all would make our visits and subsequent trips out much better. The problems were numerous and there was a quick turnover of managers and the one we had dealt with prior and on mum's first day was actually on her last couple of days of work. Therefore
we had numerous conversations with the new manager who started work on the same day as mum.
I noticed lots of basics not being met and mum deteriorating in herself. Mum has combined Alzheimer's and dementia along with osteoarthritis in both knees so she needed a wheelchair and hoist. Mum was the only resident like this and mum also had a hospital avoidance in place that was not actioned therefore an unnecessary A&E visit. On the Monday before I moved mum from the home, mum was having a suspected stroke when it was Vasovagal syndrome and the manager had this information in advance, mum was back to her usual self once food was provided and a suitable drink. Mum isn't diabetic.
Reply from Mandy Bennett, Regional Manager at Whiston Hall LtdThe wellbeing of all our residents is absolutely paramount to us and we take every concern raised very seriously. We are saddened by your poor review of our home. We have recorded one instance where you raised concerns about Mum's room and fees, which was resolved to your satisfaction. We have reviewed Mum's care records which show that Mum gained weight while with us. During an episode of a sudden drop in blood pressure (ie vasovagal episode), we contacted the NHS 111 service who despatched paramedics to the home, after sharing the hospital avoidance plan they consulted the on-call GP service who decided that the safest course of action was to take Mum to A&E. We kept you apprised of the situation and have recorded that you shared no concerns over the course of action we took in Mum's best interest. Your Mum is missed at the home and we send our best regards for her continued well-being. Our door is always open should you wish to discuss any aspect of her care.

Fantastic experience up to now, my nan has really settled in well given the change in circumstances. The manager is very approachable, friendly and engaging with the residents and their families along with his staff. I can see how he is trying to improve the care home already by implementing nice touches
to make it more homely.
Staff are also helpful with any needs or requirements and are very friendly and approachable.
They have employed an activities coordinator who is always milling around entertaining and chatting to the residents which is nice to see.

I visited my friend recently, he was very happy with the care he received while there. I spoke to a couple of the staff who were very helpful and came across that they really cared, especially one staff member whom I think is responsible for keeping the residents entertained. He told me she was amazing
and was always cheerful. Many thanks and great work to all involved.

Since my nan has been at Whiston Hall, we have found staff and management have gone above and beyond. When my nan arrived we had some reservations about the room given, but the team resolved these issues within 24 hours and made us as a family a lot happier.
Staff and management have been kind and
supportive to my family member and have kept us as a family up-to-date and well-informed.
The care given has been more than satisfactory.

We can't fault the level of care provided by the staff. The home is kept spotlessly clean and the staff are lovely and so patient despite the complex issues of the residents. The residents we come into contact with when we are visiting my mother-in-law are always smiling or snoozing, from their lunch
and we've got to know some of them very well and always like to chat with us.

Staff at Whiston Hall have been really supportive of my mum since she came in from hospital. My mum struggles with anxiety so needs calmness, patience and a homely environment with understanding from those providing care.
Two members of staff, in particular, have been exceptional.

My mum became a resident at Whiston Hall from April 2018.
During this time she has settled in to the warm environment better than I thought she would.
A quiet lady who is quite happy with her own company, but at Whiston Hall, she has made friends and been encouraged to take part in some activities.
Recently
my mum was taken to hospital. I actually thought she would never return to Whiston Hall but she has. The care, compassion that the team at Whiston Hall has shown my mum has been second to none. I have complete trust in the team's ability to help get my mum back to good health. I can highly recommend Whiston Hall.

Although my mum was a resident at Whiston Hall for only a couple of months, we found the staff and people were excellent. Residents are treated with respect and dignity. The rooms are clean and tidy, some have great views due to the good location. Decent food and entertainment were evident and everyone
seemed to be happy there. The staff, from the manager to the cleaning people were friendly and helpful. I would recommend Whiston Hall to anyone looking for a care home place for their loved one, it really is that good.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.475) out of 10 for Whiston Hall Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.475 for Whiston Hall Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (210 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (24 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 318 Ratings = 4.475
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whiston Hall Ltd is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
