My mother has been a dementia resident for over a year now and is very well cared for at Washington Manor. The staff are brilliant with her in every way and her quality of life is much better than it was. She has gained weight from eating better food on a more regular basis and takes her
medication without putting her tablets aside or hiding them. Her room has been personalised with her photo frames & a clock and she is very comfortable there. The staff are also great with myself as the effects of my mother's dementia have been difficult at times, coupled with my dad's passing and without exception, all of the personnel have been so very supportive. Before Washington Manor her social worker first placed her in another care home which was poor in comparison to Washington Manor and moving her here was the best decision. I would highly recommend St Martins Care to anyone looking for a care home.

NO CHANGE.
I visited my father on Saturday, just as his lunch was arriving. His meal was given to him uncut (it was a pie) and with normal cutlery rather than the specialist ones he needs. I got the food cut up and the correct utensils were provided after I asked! No one offered to help him with
his meal, I did it. That's fine but what is happening when there is no one there? My previous Saturday visit 3 weeks ago was the exact same scenario. I am horrified to see that my previous review was saying the same things. I am always told that the staff have been instructed to help him yet I never see this happen. If he cannot manage his meal he will not ask for help he just says he is not hungry, so he has nothing. I understand that most of the staff at the weekends are agency staff but they should still be instructed what to do and monitored to see that they are doing it!

Washington Manor, avoid! I'm disgusted. I've complained to the care home, Adult Social Services, and Care Quality Commission. Concerns included poor infection control procedures. I saw a staff member pour water into the same beaker used to give medicine to everyone in my dad's corridor. My wife saw
this the week before, but I said no home would put residents' health at risk. I was wrong. They admit this is not in line with IPC standards.
No records exist for applying dad's cream after 1st May. I raised concerns about personal hygiene. Records show dad was showered 3 times in February, two times in March, and none in April! His clothes were frequently dirty and unchanged for days including socks and underwear. I was disgusted they claimed my complaint was motivated by money when I was told my dad would have to pay for another four weeks as I removed him with 1 days' notice. This makes no sense as I was offered a fee free month if I kept him there. He now looks cleaner, healthier, and stimulated in his new care home.

The home has a welcome atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful. They try to engage the residents to join in communal meals and activities. Sometimes it seems that requests don't always get passed on or actioned as quickly as we would have hoped.

As a family putting Dad in to a home was a really difficult decision, but seeing how he settled from the moment he stepped inside the door was mind-blowing. Management and staff really made him feel welcome and put him at ease, talking him through the progress. I myself have worked in care for 19
years and can honestly say this is one of the nicest homes I have come across. I would highly recommend Washington Manor.

When it comes to the stage when one of your parents are struggling and needs care it is a worrying time. My dad arrived at Washington Manor after trying everything we could to let him live at home with Mam, but after losing his hip bone and not being able to get around the choice was made for us. We
wanted somewhere close to Washington and his family as possible and when we were told that it would be Washington Manor that was a plus. The place is wonderful with very high standards, the staff are fantastic and always chatting and making sure Dad is fine. He always says how lovely the food is and is really happy every time we go to visit. It was their diamond wedding and the staff set up an afternoon tea for him and my mam which was a fabulous touch. I live in Spain and it makes my life a lot easier knowing he is well looked after. Thanks to all the staff who work there. Top team

Visited my husband’s mother at the home recently. We are 4 hours away by car so it was really important to us to like the home and the staff during this first visit.
The care home staff are so friendly and welcoming and gave us an update on our family member. They seem to offer so much interaction
for the residents which is vital when dealing with early-onset dementia. We are really appreciative of their regular social media posts and videos.
Thank you!

I have previously had poor experiences with care homes and was very apprehensive about my father being admitted to one. He started off as a temporary resident and has been accepted for a full-term placement. I am more than happy with the care and attention he receives more importantly he shows no
sign of distress when I visit. The food is of a high standard and the staff are always helpful and will answer any questions promptly and honestly. I visit at varying times and the standards are consistently high. It is never any trouble to make him a drink when requested and always comes with a smile and more importantly to him a biscuit!
Activities are geared to the time of year which helps with orientation.
It is very reassuring that he is looked after to a consistently high standard and can have things from home for his room. I have no problems recommending the home to anyone who like me was initially apprehensive.
