My mam has advanced dementia and went into Washington Manor when she was very agitated, worried, and frightened, within a few days she is a different person. She wants to be there, is now very calm and relaxed as she is around staff who are amazing.
We were so worried about making the step but with the care taken by Washington Manor it's been the best thing for mam and us.

Thank you

- my father Lost vision in his left eye on Sat 23rd, I called Care Home Reception to investigate and call ambulance. Duty manager - Kim, after investigating the condition and allegedly consulting it medics over a phone, informed me that my father didn't show symptoms of a stroke and eye would have to be investigated on the next day and only if member of family can take my father to the hospital. On the next day my niece took my father to the hospital and after examination we learnt that my father lost vision in left eye due to mini stroke. We were also informed it was a permanent loss and only immediate treatment after loosing vision might have saved his eyesight. I have spoken with deputy manager about this incident. As I understood this case was going to be further investigated and I am currently looking forward to the outcome of this investigation.

- in addition my father is suffering from diabetes, despite of this he is regularly given sugary snacks(chocolate bars).

Thank you for your comments regarding the care of your father at Washington Manor following concerns relating to loss of vision, this must have been very distressing. Came to Washington Manor to celebrate my auntie's birthday. We took cakes, and the staff/carers were so welcoming. The catering staff totally spoiled us with an amazing cheese board, scones and tea. It helped us to celebrate the special event. It was amazing. Staff are brilliant here—relaxing environment, so comfortable to visit. Can't thank the carers and caterers enough. Great experience. Very happy my auntie is here.

Washington Manor care is really supporting my aunt very well. The staff take a real interest and help her to adapt to her changing condition, as many distressing symptoms develop. The attention and concern for her wellbeing is lovely, and I must say the food and catering in Washington Manor is excellent. A beautiful spread was produced for my aunt's birthday, which was very much appreciated and made to feel special. Thank you.

The care home is one of the best I have been in. Plenty of food, very caring staff and the building is well maintained. Residents' well-being is very good. If you need to talk to someone with regards your relative, the management are always there to help. The only thing I think is needed is more entertainment.

My mother has been a dementia resident for over a year now and is very well cared for at Washington Manor. The staff are brilliant with her in every way and her quality of life is much better than it was. She has gained weight from eating better food on a more regular basis and takes her medication without putting her tablets aside or hiding them. Her room has been personalised with her photo frames & a clock and she is very comfortable there. The staff are also great with myself as the effects of my mother's dementia have been difficult at times, coupled with my dad's passing and without exception, all of the personnel have been so very supportive. Before Washington Manor her social worker first placed her in another care home which was poor in comparison to Washington Manor and moving her here was the best decision. I would highly recommend St Martins Care to anyone looking for a care home.

NO CHANGE.

I visited my father on Saturday, just as his lunch was arriving. His meal was given to him uncut (it was a pie) and with normal cutlery rather than the specialist ones he needs. I got the food cut up and the correct utensils were provided after I asked! No one offered to help him with his meal, I did it. That's fine but what is happening when there is no one there? My previous Saturday visit 3 weeks ago was the exact same scenario. I am horrified to see that my previous review was saying the same things. I am always told that the staff have been instructed to help him yet I never see this happen. If he cannot manage his meal he will not ask for help he just says he is not hungry, so he has nothing. I understand that most of the staff at the weekends are agency staff but they should still be instructed what to do and monitored to see that they are doing it!

Washington Manor, avoid! I'm disgusted. I've complained to the care home, Adult Social Services, and Care Quality Commission. Concerns included poor infection control procedures. I saw a staff member pour water into the same beaker used to give medicine to everyone in my dad's corridor. My wife saw this the week before, but I said no home would put residents' health at risk. I was wrong. They admit this is not in line with IPC standards.

No records exist for applying dad's cream after 1st May. I raised concerns about personal hygiene. Records show dad was showered 3 times in February, two times in March, and none in April! His clothes were frequently dirty and unchanged for days including socks and underwear. I was disgusted they claimed my complaint was motivated by money when I was told my dad would have to pay for another four weeks as I removed him with 1 days' notice. This makes no sense as I was offered a fee free month if I kept him there. He now looks cleaner, healthier, and stimulated in his new care home.

Reply from Keith Milton, CEO at Washington Manor

We are a proactive and responsive provider and addressed concerns raised immediately and appropriate action was taken. This was communicated to you by the manager. The records show that support was provided every day with washing and dressing and often the resident would dress independently which...

Helen Clark
Helen ClarkJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2022

From a young age, Helen cared for her dad. This gave her a real passion for caring, so much so that she knew straight away that she wanted to work in care. Helen completed her NVQ level 2 and 3 in school in 2013 and, after that, she worked in several jobs before going to college. In 2016 she had her daughter who is now 7 years old. Helen then returned to work and undertook roles in the community as a carer, something that she really enjoyed. During COVID, Helen chose to take some time out to look after her daughter before deciding to get back into work and joined the team at Washington Manor as a part-time care assistant. She soon realised that she absolutely loved working at Washington Manor and after a few months was promoted into a full-time senior care assistant role. After excelling in that role, Helen was promoted to Deputy Manager and, in January 2025, to the Registered Manager. Helen is really looking forward to taking on the role and new responsibilities. Helen is the perfect example of how someone with the right skills, attitude and determination can progress and develop their career at St Martins Care and she is committed to make a difference to the lives of all the residents of Washington Manor.

Angela Needs
Angela NeedsJob Title:Deputy ManagerJoined: 2020
Angela has been working in the care sector for over 20 years. She joined the team at Washington Manor in October 2020, starting as a care assistant and was very quickly promoted to senior care assistant. Angela has completed her NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care and has recently completed her Moving and Handling Train the Trainer course meaning she can train all her colleagues within the care home.

Angela really enjoys supporting the Senior Care Team with the online systems the company uses to deliver excellent care, such as PCS for care records and Camascope for medication management. Angela was promoted to Deputy Manager in January 2025, and says that she is really looking forward to the opportunity to learn new skills and to putting her 20+ years’ experience into practice. “I am looking forward to supporting the team and ensuring our residents receive the very best care.”
