When it comes to the stage when one of your parents are struggling and needs care it is a worrying time. My dad arrived at Washington Manor after trying everything we could to let him live at home with Mam, but after losing his hip bone and not being able to get around the choice was made for us. We
wanted somewhere close to Washington and his family as possible and when we were told that it would be Washington Manor that was a plus. The place is wonderful with very high standards, the staff are fantastic and always chatting and making sure Dad is fine. He always says how lovely the food is and is really happy every time we go to visit. It was their diamond wedding and the staff set up an afternoon tea for him and my mam which was a fabulous touch. I live in Spain and it makes my life a lot easier knowing he is well looked after. Thanks to all the staff who work there. Top team

Visited my husband’s mother at the home recently. We are 4 hours away by car so it was really important to us to like the home and the staff during this first visit.
The care home staff are so friendly and welcoming and gave us an update on our family member. They seem to offer so much interaction
for the residents which is vital when dealing with early-onset dementia. We are really appreciative of their regular social media posts and videos.
Thank you!

I have previously had poor experiences with care homes and was very apprehensive about my father being admitted to one. He started off as a temporary resident and has been accepted for a full-term placement. I am more than happy with the care and attention he receives more importantly he shows no sign
of distress when I visit. The food is of a high standard and the staff are always helpful and will answer any questions promptly and honestly. I visit at varying times and the standards are consistently high. It is never any trouble to make him a drink when requested and always comes with a smile and more importantly to him a biscuit!
Activities are geared to the time of year which helps with orientation.
It is very reassuring that he is looked after to a consistently high standard and can have things from home for his room. I have no problems recommending the home to anyone who like me was initially apprehensive.

My sister arrived at Washington Manor withdrawn, paranoid, hallucinating and very depressed. With the encouragement of all the staff, she is now socializing with other residents and joining in the afternoon activities. She is well thought of and well cared for. The staff here are amazing.

I was very anxious about my husband going into care but the staff put my mind at rest. They are lovely and very helpful.
His needs are met and more. There is plenty of activities to keep them busy during the day. Meals are in abundance- plenty of food is available.
I’m very pleased with his stay.

My mam was a temporary resident at Washington Manor for respite purposes. Mam had always lived independently and the family were surprised when she decided to stay longer on a trial period and then to become a permanent resident. From the beginning mam was made to feel welcome and although I worried
about her loss of independence it was clear she was happy there and felt safe. Being able to bring some of her personal possessions helped to make her room feel familiar too. From my visits I have found all the staff there to be caring, supportive, friendly and cheerful and they have built up a great rapport with mam. The team there have always been very helpful with any requests I have made and it is a great comfort knowing mam is well looked after.

My father had been in Washington Manor for sixteen months until he passed away in February. He was very happy during his time there and settled. It was his home. The staff were excellent at looking after him due to their care and attention. They gave us the most wonderful gift of another 12 months with
our father. A huge thank you to everyone.

My brother originally moved to Washington Manor as a temporary resident, however, after four months he asked to live there permanently. The manager and the team gave him a warm welcome. As a family, we had flexible visits in the early days to help my brother settle in. We have had good communication
with the manager and her team and they have supported my brother with his individual care needs.

My mum moved into the home in April 2021 and from day one the staff have been so helpful and supportive. Mum is very happy, settled and safe and that is down to the amazing care she receives as she has dementia and needs extra care and patience. It's a fantastic home and I would highly recommend Washington
Manor to anyone who is looking for a care home for a loved one. The management and staff put their heart and soul into caring for everyone, I honestly don't know what we would do without them so thank you one and all, you are all doing a fantastic job.

My mom-in-law moved into Washington Manor last summer. As a family, we were of course apprehensive about moving her there from her own home. I am happy to say that from day one all the staff have been very friendly and supportive. Before her moving in date, they gave us extra access to her room so it
could be set up, and she even spent a relaxing afternoon in the lounge, chatting and making new friends. Due to lockdown restrictions earlier in the year, she had felt so lonely and so excited to move into her new environment. She likes the building and often says the staff “are friendly and care”.
Since she moved into Washington Manor we have had no concerns about the level of care she received. My mom-in-law has Alzheimer’s, so of course, there are times when she needs a little extra attention, and the staff there have been very supportive of her needs, this can be a medical issue or just someone to sit and talk to her.

My mam was admitted to Washington Manor in June after a spell in hospital. She had had a number of falls during the previous months and needed 24-hour care. Choosing a home for mam was proving difficult until I visited Washington Manor. Straight away I felt at ease as everyone was very welcoming and
the place was airy and clean. Mam settled in quickly and always speaks highly of the care she receives. Through the hard work and dedication of the staff mam's general wellbeing has improved greatly and she is now more her old self. She is eating well, is more communicative and is slowly becoming more mobile than she was. I feel this is due to the care and support provided by all the staff at the home. Nothing is too much bother and everyone is friendly and happy to give me updates on mam's progress. The manager was particularly flexible over visiting when my sister came from abroad to see mam. We both really appreciated this and would like to say a big 'thank you' to all staff.

My Mother has been a resident at Washington Manor for a month now and I cannot praise the staff and management there highly enough. They have done everything possible to make my Mother feel welcome and at home. While I have not been able to visit the home due to Covid, I have frequently spoken to members
of staff who are happy to update me on how my Mother has been and answer any questions I have. My mother has told me that she is happy there and that all the staff are "lovely". I hope to be able to visit in the near future and meet the people who are doing such a wonderful job of caring for my mother.

My uncle moved into Washington Manor in December 2020. I only visited him twice, due to Covid restrictions and that was in a visiting pod, so I didn’t go inside the home. When I visited him, he had settled in well. He said the home was “top class”. He was nicely dressed in his own clothes and looked
well. He looked more like his normal self than when he had been in his own home. He spent time in hospital before he moved into the home but I wasn’t able to visit him there.

My parents went to Washington Manor at very short notice for respite care. My father, the main carer for my mother who has dementia, fell and broke his ankle early on Christmas day and is unable to walk.
By teatime they were installed in two interconnecting rooms - the staff made one into a bedroom
and the other a sitting room by moving furniture.
My parents are very comfortable, they say the food is good, staff are very kind and nothing is too much trouble.
Although activities are limited at present, my father has enjoyed playing dominoes with other residents and having the opportunity to play the piano.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.672)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.672) out of 10 for Washington Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.310 for Washington Manor is calculated as follows: ( (91 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (11 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 129 Ratings = 4.31
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.362 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Washington Manor is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 68 registered maximum number of service users is 13.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.6 = 0.662
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Helen Clark

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2022

From a young age, Helen cared for her dad. This gave her a real passion for caring, so much so that she knew straight away that she wanted to work in care. Helen completed her NVQ level 2 and 3 in school in 2013 and, after that, she worked in several jobs before going to college. In 2016 she had her daughter who is now 7 years old. Helen then returned to work and undertook roles in the community as a carer, something that she really enjoyed. During COVID, Helen chose to take some time out to look after her daughter before deciding to get back into work and joined the team at Washington Manor as a part-time care assistant. She soon realised that she absolutely loved working at Washington Manor and after a few months was promoted into a full-time senior care assistant role. After excelling in that role, Helen was promoted to Deputy Manager and, in January 2025, to the Registered Manager. Helen is really looking forward to taking on the role and new responsibilities. Helen is the perfect example of how someone with the right skills, attitude and determination can progress and develop their career at St Martins Care and she is committed to make a difference to the lives of all the residents of Washington Manor.
