View Full Details of Chestnut HouseSo grateful to the manager and staff at Chestnut House. The care they provide is amazing. My dad has settled so well. Everyone's so calm and supportive with him and it really shows when I visit how happy he is.
Lovely home and lovely staff always made welcome. Mum is a bit confused sometimes but calls the place home. The staff always have time to answer any questions and are always kind and caring to mum. The home is being spruced up at moment which is looking very smart. I have only good things to say about Chestnut House.
Rooms are currently being decorated so hopefully after completion I could score a 5. Staff are so friendly, always around and always willing to support. Activities could be better although I know they are trying hard to provide activities groups of residents can enjoy. Mum does like having her nails done. Mum isn't always spotlessly clean, I know from staff they try to wash her daily but can't force her. Mum knows she should shower but says she is too tired to. She enjoys the food and chef does provide alternatives if needed. I am very content mum is safe, cared for and in the best place for her. There are several rooms and mum is free to go where she wants. As visitors me and my sister are made very welcome.
I feel my husband is looked after well.
The home has been excellent, couldn't do enough for Mum. They keep me informed of appointments, are always able to answer my questions and contact me if Mum needs anything. They treat her with dignity and respect.
My sister is cared for in an excellent way. The staff are always very friendly and the home is always clean.
My sister seems very happy here, the staff are always friendly and polite. Everywhere is clean and tidy.
Dad spent just five months at Chestnut House prior to his sudden and unexpected death there in August 2024. Soon after Dad's admission our contact with him was curtailed due to an outright lie being told by a staff member about us. We were not given accurate reports from the care home as to Dad's rapid decline since his admission to their care, only after his death discovering that he had been barely eating or drinking, and it became clear Dad had been distressed for much of his time there. The home is understaffed and unclean as a contemporaneous review states. This is not a home we would have chosen for our dad, and we advise others to avoid this place. We would not place a dog in this home, never mind a loved one. We have taken up our concerns with the management of the home (and other organisations), but have not to date had an adequate response.
I was so disappointed with the care at Chestnut House, I felt I had no choice but to take my mum from there. Despite being promised that there would be daily activities for the residents, there were none during the fortnight Mum was there. Yes there were boxes of jigsaws and Dominoes on shelves but I did not see staff get them out and engage with the residents (I went at various times of the day from early morning to later in the evening). In fact, I played Dominoes with one resident and he became much more animated. Ensuring residents have stimulation is as important as making sure they are clean and fed. Cleanliness is also hit and miss. On a couple of occasions, there was a strong smell of urine in the home, including my mum's own room. I also had to ask for her hair to be washed as it was very greasy. I found communication poor e.g I was not informed of the outcome from the District Nurse's visit. I have raised these issues with management and hopefully things will improve.
My uncle moved to Chestnut House a couple of months ago. Thankfully he has settled in well. The bedrooms are quite spacious with plenty of storage space. Windows have safety locks. Lovely staff who all engage with my uncle with respect and friendliness. Activities such as jigsaws, dominoes, and crafting are available. Also, they had pie and a pint last month. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, including arranging for my uncle to have an eye test there.
I have always found the staff caring and supportive of my mother's needs. She is generally clean, tidy and well looked after.
Lovely friendly and patient staff.
Chestnut House is first class. Staff and management are superb! Very caring and professional/recommend the home to anybody!
I feel very welcome when I visit Chestnut House, the home is warm and friendly, and we are all on first-name terms. The staff are always pleasant and accommodating. My husband is well fed, clean, and cared for, sometimes a little bored and sometimes not very happy. If I could highlight anything it will be my husband's bedroom it's definitely dated and could do with a bit of upgrading.
This home is so nice. Staff are excellent. Food is great, rooms beautiful, nothing is too much trouble for them. I visit anytime, any problems they let you know straight away. My mother would not move home now. This is great peace of mind for the families.
My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's two years ago. Mum was sent to Chestnut House as an emergency case because her mental health was deteriorating. They made what was a difficult process much easier. They are caring, well organised and incredibly nice. Mum is Ok. She is being well looked after, fed, warm and cared for and I appreciate it so much.
It would be nice to see some more activities in place for the residents. There doesn't appear to be anything to stimulate. The staff work very hard but rarely have time to do other things but one-to-one with personal care. The home is always clean and tidy and so are the residents.
Friendly attentive staff who are always approachable, overall excellent standard of care.
We as a family have had issues with the performance of 2 members of the care team but the manager and the deputy manager have been excellent with dealing with the matter and both staff in a prompt professional manner.
Generally excellent care. Staff are all very caring and Mum looks as contented as we can hope for. Mum's room needs a decorative update which was started but still not completed after 2-3 months and disappointed at the lack of activities within the home.
