Lovely home and lovely staff always made welcome. Mum is a bit confused sometimes but calls the place home. The staff always have time to answer any questions and are always kind and caring to mum. The home is being spruced up at moment which is looking very smart. I have only good things to say about

Rooms are currently being decorated so hopefully after completion I could score a 5. Staff are so friendly, always around and always willing to support. Activities could be better although I know they are trying hard to provide activities groups of residents can enjoy. Mum does like having her nails
done. Mum isn't always spotlessly clean, I know from staff they try to wash her daily but can't force her. Mum knows she should shower but says she is too tired to. She enjoys the food and chef does provide alternatives if needed. I am very content mum is safe, cared for and in the best place for her. There are several rooms and mum is free to go where she wants. As visitors me and my sister are made very welcome.

The home has been excellent, couldn't do enough for Mum. They keep me informed of appointments, are always able to answer my questions and contact me if Mum needs anything. They treat her with dignity and respect.

Dad spent just five months at Chestnut House prior to his sudden and unexpected death there in August 2024. Soon after Dad's admission our contact with him was curtailed due to an outright lie being told by a staff member about us. We were not given accurate reports from the care home as to Dad's rapid
decline since his admission to their care, only after his death discovering that he had been barely eating or drinking, and it became clear Dad had been distressed for much of his time there. The home is understaffed and unclean as a contemporaneous review states. This is not a home we would have chosen for our dad, and we advise others to avoid this place. We would not place a dog in this home, never mind a loved one. We have taken up our concerns with the management of the home (and other organisations), but have not to date had an adequate response.

Your father was one of forty-one people who lived at Chestnut House during the period you refer to. All other forty families were happy with the care provided. Your visits to the home were curtailed due to a ruling by a court of law, that was outside of the home's circle of influence. This is why your visits were supervised. Your visits were supervised by a Social Worker who also visited the home on an ad-hoc basis. No concerns were raised further to any of their visits. Your father did not 'barely eat or drink' whilst at Chestnut House. In fact, he gained 6K in weight. This fact does not support your spurious allegation. Chestnut House is not understaffed or unclean. It is reviewed regularly by CIW and FCC. The home also completes its own suite of audits to ensure that standards are met. Records are maintained. It is correct that you have written to the home however, on each occasion, you have received a response, therefore, yet again, your allegation is incorrect.

I was so disappointed with the care at Chestnut House, I felt I had no choice but to take my mum from there. Despite being promised that there would be daily activities for the residents, there were none during the fortnight Mum was there. Yes there were boxes of jigsaws and Dominoes on shelves but
I did not see staff get them out and engage with the residents (I went at various times of the day from early morning to later in the evening). In fact, I played Dominoes with one resident and he became much more animated. Ensuring residents have stimulation is as important as making sure they are clean and fed.
Cleanliness is also hit and miss. On a couple of occasions, there was a strong smell of urine in the home, including my mum's own room. I also had to ask for her hair to be washed as it was very greasy. I found communication poor e.g I was not informed of the outcome from the District Nurse's visit.
I have raised these issues with management and hopefully things will improve.

My uncle moved to Chestnut House a couple of months ago. Thankfully he has settled in well. The bedrooms are quite spacious with plenty of storage space. Windows have safety locks. Lovely staff who all engage with my uncle with respect and friendliness. Activities such as jigsaws, dominoes, and crafting
are available. Also, they had pie and a pint last month. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, including arranging for my uncle to have an eye test there.

I feel very welcome when I visit Chestnut House, the home is warm and friendly, and we are all on first-name terms. The staff are always pleasant and accommodating. My husband is well fed, clean, and cared for, sometimes a little bored and sometimes not very happy.
If I could highlight anything it
will be my husband's bedroom it's definitely dated and could do with a bit of upgrading.

This home is so nice. Staff are excellent.
Food is great, rooms beautiful, nothing is too much trouble for them.
I visit anytime, any problems they let you know straight away.
My mother would not move home now.

My mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's two years ago. Mum was sent to Chestnut House as an emergency case because her mental health was deteriorating. They made what was a difficult process much easier. They are caring, well organised and incredibly nice. Mum is Ok. She is being well looked after, fed,
warm and cared for and I appreciate it so much.

It would be nice to see some more activities in place for the residents. There doesn't appear to be anything to stimulate. The staff work very hard but rarely have time to do other things but one-to-one with personal care. The home is always clean and tidy and so are the residents.

We as a family have had issues with the performance of 2 members of the care team but the manager and the deputy manager have been excellent with dealing with the matter and both staff in a prompt professional manner.

Generally excellent care. Staff are all very caring and Mum looks as contented as we can hope for.


Mum's room needs a decorative update which was started but still not completed after 2-3 months and disappointed at the lack of activities within the home.

Since mum has been in Chestnut House (7 months) she has settled in lovely. Gone has all her anxiety she has from suffering from, even though sometimes she doesn't acknowledge the family. She always has a great laugh with all the staff who go above and beyond to make her happy. We know she is in safe
hands and well looked after/after the previous year when Alzheimer's took over her life completely we knew we had to make the right decision on placing her here. Waiting for a place for my dad who is in another home at the moment, so they can spend the rest of their lives together in a homely atmosphere.
