View Full Details of Rathmore HouseMy uncle and his late partner first came to Rathmore House early 2023. Whilst I live in Australia since that date I have visited UK six times and Rathmore House multiple times each visit. I continue to be thoroughly impressed by the level of care afforded and believe my uncle couldn't be in better care.
Rathmore is a small care home, so staff and residents get to know each other. Where I've given 4 stars, it's because there may be room for improvement, not because I have any particular criticism. I have heard some criticism of the food. I wish there were more activities outside the home, but I know that's difficult. Perhaps there should be more staff.
With just 20 residents, Rathmore House has a kindly but relaxed and unrestrictive atmosphere. The layout is open and welcoming, the decor unpretentious , and much of the original Victorian building and garden is unchanged. Meals are often excellent, cooked on site, and if weather invites we are able to eat in the garden. Visitors can stay as long as they like and I greatly appreciate being allowed to be as involved as I wish in my mother's day. Rathmore House is very well located for short outings, such as in a wheelchair. It's about 15 minutes walk from beautiful park. The area itself provides an interesting saunter, being lined with trees and fascinating Victorian mansions and leading to a pleasant little park behind the theatre. Most important of all, Rathmore House has some lovely, caring members of staff, whose warmth, kindness and sense of humour has kept this particular family member's head above water on frequent occasions!
My sister seems content in Rathmore House. Eats well and is always clean and tidy. The staff work tirelessly looking after some very difficult situations. My sister was traumatised when going into Rathmore House but staff soon managed to overcome this anxiety
Rathmore House is a fantastic care home. The staff are fantastic. They are wonderful in what they do for residents and family and friends who visit. My score for them is 100/100 percent perfect for the care they give my Dad.
Rathmore House is friendly and fosters a family atmosphere. It is small enough to provide individual care which is so important. I represent 5 friends who have formed a team to visit and support our old friend who has now lived in Rathmore House for 4 years. The garden is an excellent space when the weather allows, and activities such as art projects and parties are very well organised and enjoyed by all. Outings are challenging to organise for these residents, and we hope the current local funding will help with providing even more outings.
Lovely home and has very well cared for residents. Small and friendly so there are plenty of staff for each resident. I also always feel welcomed and greeted by name when I visit. Cannot fault the place
I have supported more than one member of my family as a resident of Rathmore House over the past 4 - 5 years. I have always found the staff very supportive and caring. I have never observed any of them 'time-wasting', if they have a free moment they spend it with one or other of the residents. The house is clean and tidy, mostly well-maintained and smelling fine. The garden is a great safe outdoor space which is generally welcoming and a good place to sit in when visiting with your resident. As a relative of a resident, I have experienced much support for my own needs, particularly from the office and management. It is not easy to choose a care home for one's loved ones but I have never regretted my choice of Rathmore House.
My cousin has been at Rathmore House for almost 5 years and suffers from mixed dementia. He has been very settled while has been at the home and is well looked after by the team of carers. There always seems to be a homely feel to Rathmore House, and staff do very well to make the residents feel part of a family. The home is kept very clean. Support when necessary from external providers, i.e. NHS, doctor, mental health services, always appears to be prompt which is much appreciated and ensures continued care for the residents. The home is situated in a quiet area reasonably accessible by public transport, and has a secure garden which is used by residents in the Summer. I am very content that my cousin is well cared for which is very reassuring.
My partner has been a resident at Rathmore House since August 2020. In that time his dementia has inevitably progressed a lot, but the excellent care, love and understanding he has received has never wavered for a moment. His emotional and medical needs have always been fully and sympathetically met and I am so grateful to all the staff, especially one staff member in particular who has been an inspiring and exceptional manager. I am so sorry that she is leaving, but she leaves a wonderful institution behind her.
My mother is very well looked after by a very kind, loving and attentive staff. She is always very well-groomed, clean, and well-fed. Her well-being and health are closely monitored and timely action is taken. The family are kept informed of any developments. The staff engage in conversation with her and encourages her to take part in activities. My mother has found a new lease of life since she moved to Rathmore House 18 months ago. The family are thankful and appreciates the love, kindness and professionalism of the management and the staff.
Our relative has advanced dementia and poor mobility. She is not very sociable and is preoccupied with her next meal. In the year she has spent at Rathmore House, her mobility has improved because of staff encouragement. The staff are very friendly and engage with her, and sometimes she responds with a smile and an acknowledgment of their efforts. The ambiance of Rathmore House is pleasant, cheerful, and positive. It’s nice to be able to visit our relatives without feeling any anxiety.
The staff have been exceptional in every way. It feels good to know your friend is in good hands. I highly recommend Rathmore House. The Managers are quite amazing. But I should say all the staff show great dedication to all the clients. Our friend has been here for just over 11 months. In a crisis, they deal with the situation with compassion and competence.
My mother moved to Rathmore House just over a month ago. She suffers from the dementia/Alzheimer's package and before the move, she really hadn't left her bed for six months. Within three days of moving to Rathmore, she was coming downstairs and socialising which she continues to do. Her overall mood and appearance have both changed dramatically: she is brighter, happier and more positive. When I visit I notice that all the staff are kind and treat the residents with great respect and understanding. They are also very friendly towards their residents' visitors - I always get offered coffee/tea and a cake! I must also say that while we all understand these are difficult times for both our loved ones and ourselves, the management and staff at Rathmore have made the whole process of finding a safe and caring environment for our elderly relatives that much easier.
My mother came to Rathmore during the lockdown of 2021. I can honestly say the care and attention she has received from all the caring staff has been excellent. The Manager is a super caring person, giving me confidence in the service that is provided by Rathmore House. This is a small care home and it feels like an extended family. We are always made to feel welcome and all the staff are always willing to listen to our concerns or to update us on mum's activities. There are activities organised regularly for all the residents that they are encouraged to participate in, art, dance, music etc. The food is wholesome and tasty and prepared fresh every mealtime. She recently had her 90th birthday, Rathmore made a tea party for her with a birthday cake too to celebrate. I am really pleased that mum came to Rathmore, she has definitely flourished here.
I am a resident at Rathmore House and I will be clocking 10-years of residence in May 2022. I have been impressed that the home manager has appreciated the staff's welfare, in particular nurturing certain staff to show their full potential. I have also been impressed with the concern she has shown to all the residents at Rathmore House.
Sadly in Nov. 2018, my husband's Alzheimer's condition developed so bad that I had to part with him. After two wrong choices of care homes, our daughter found out Rathmore House. Its manager came to assess my husband and she made him feel so relieved and comfortable that he felt readily at home when he started his now three years residence. The main reason is the genuine care provided by all lovely carers well managed by the manager, never heard any complaint of tiredness or resentment from them. Rathmore is homely like a family house and we enjoy the garden where birthdays are unmistakably celebrated. The way Rathmore has dealt with Covid restrictions has been made smooth for the relatives as much as for the residents through window or skype contacts and the cosy pod. My husband is still a happy eater... probably due to the chef's talent. It is a pleasure to see how the residents are securely going around as if they were still at home, as a relative, I found a consoling second family.
From the day that my mother moved into Rathmore House, the Manager and the entire team have ensured that mum has felt calm, well looked after, and loved. This extends to the rest of the family, we have also felt cared about and well informed every day as to what is happening. It’s one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, moving mum to a care home, but Rathmore’s kindness, experience, and the amazing way they are with all the residents and their families have made everything so much easier. I cannot thank the Manger and the team enough.
My mother moved to Rathmore House from another care home outside London a few weeks ago. I was anxious about moving her as she has Alzheimer's and vascular dementia and is not able to understand what's happening. But with the recent COVID pandemic, I have not been able to travel to visit her so often and the visits have been shorter, so a move to be closer to me was essential. I'm pleased to say it has been a success and my mum has settled in very well. She's recognising me more and is smiling a great deal. The atmosphere at Rathmore House is very special. It feels more like a home than a care home. Everyone I have met has been so friendly and welcoming, but also extremely responsive. The moving process, too, was great. They dealt with the transfer very effectively and safely and organised the logistics. They even lent me a wheelchair and asked me to chose the paint colour of my mum's new room. Very happy indeed.
My cousin has been a resident of Rathmore House for 16 months during which time he has become much more settled and comfortable despite his dementia diagnosis. No matter the circumstances, the carers at Rathmore House display great empathy to the residents, and appear very supportive, and always willing to assist. The home is managed very well by the manager, who likes her staff to interact with the residents making them feel at home and part of a family. The home has a very homely feel and I am sure the residents appreciate that. The home is very quick to identify any special needs for residents and is well supported by the local health authority. I highly recommend Rathmore House.
