View Full Details of Birchwood Grange Care Home - Avery HealthcareOur Dad was a resident at the Birchwood Grange for the last 8 weeks of his life, and we were very impressed by the Care he received from the Carers, Nursing staff, Chefs and catering staff. All our requests were taken seriously and supported with kindness which made our Dad's last few weeks peaceful and comfortable. In particular two nurses from the management team took personal interest to ensure we were fully supported through this difficult time. We can't thank them enough and would recommend this Home for your loved ones. The only downside if any was the GP service attached to the Home which could have been a bit more caring and responsive.
I cannot get past the guilt and hurt my father's last moments has caused. My father was seen by palliative nurse on a Friday 25 October 24 and palliative medication were prescribed. As a family we knew my father was approaching the end of his life. The next day on Saturday we had to request the ward manager of the dementia unit to administer medication to keep my father comfortable. I was there the whole day till late evening when my sister was going to sit with my father. So I could go home and have a rest. We worked it out so my father would not be alone. I mentioned to the ward manager that my sister would be spending the time with my dad next. After my sister had spent a little while with my dad she was told to leave by the night staff and the ward manager by phone. The changes in my dad looked that death would be soon. Despite my sister pleading, she was told to leave. Hence my father died alone without family present. There was no need for that. On hindsight we should have stood our ground. Bitter memories. Based on end-of-life care.
I have had issues when my husband is taken out in the cold, no jacket or hat, and with being shaved, every two-three days. Also, to be encouraged to be out of bed more often.
Elderly aunt admitted to Birchwood Grange Care Home 12 months ago on a palliative care discharge from hospital following a bad fall, and a resident until her recent passing. The Birchwood Grange staff provided a good standard of nursing and care to my aunt and were very supportive to her and our family when she passed.
Mummy adapted to her big life change, entering Birchwood Grange Care Home over two years ago, assisted by the special, culturally compatible cuisine and temple activities, for which we are most grateful. However, in addition to this, we must highly commend the nursing lead on Cedar unit and her team for the loving attendance and care over our mother's last weeks. She was treated like their own family member, her clinical needs met with reassurance from community, palliative team and support given to family members.
I enjoy assisting with activities as I play the piano. It is most enjoyable, making residents happy and stimulating their minds and keep them active. Birchwood Grange Care Home staff are most helpful in assisting to being residents for sing along on a Wednesday and I am willing to support Birchwood staff.
I cannot thank enough all the staff for taking care of my father-in-law. They are so caring - and polite. Made him feel that he is at home. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Always smiling and jolly. Which made all our family members relaxed that our dad is in good care at his final stages of life.
Am very pleased with the staff and facilities. Food is lovely and I feel safe and secure.
Birchwood Grange is a large welcoming care home with warm and friendly staff with a dedicated wing for Asian residents, with its own Vegetarian Asian Kitchen. The carers, nurses and management staff all did their best to make my mother feel welcome and comfortable during her stay The room allocated was spotlessly clean, and though a little compact it was adequately maintained. The food provided was good and sufficient. Common areas were clean and well-maintained. My main criticism is the GP allocated to my mother's unit, never visited the residents in the 13 months that my mother was resident there. My mother is Diabetic and needs 6 monthly reviews. To my knowledge, this was never done, and when her blood sugar increased I had to push the nurses to get the GP to review her medication, which eventually happened after another 2 months. This is unacceptable. Birchwood Grange is a good care home with attentive staff, let down by poor GP support (in my case). Do your due diligence.
Our mum has been having respite care for the past four weeks prior to long-term care. All the staff are friendly and helpful whenever we visit and provide superb care to our mother. Also provides exercises, quizzes and one-to-one interactions to stimulate our mum. Mum also likes this place and hot food.
The home is full of smiley, caring and happy faces of staff and residents. A clean and homely atmosphere. The staff always want to help the residents and their relatives. They not only care for the residents but also see their relatives are more than welcome. Can truly recommend the home to anyone.
