View Full Details of Harwood HouseMy mother has been a permanent resident at Harwood House for over a year now and continues to be very happy in her new home. Right from the outset, the care and support we received was amazing. Nursing staff visited my mother in hospital to fully understand her medical needs and to create a smooth transition, and I was guided carefully through the administration. This attention to detail and personalised care and support is exemplary and is a hallmark of the home. Set deep in the beautiful countryside of Cookham Dean, Harwood House is a wonderful building inside and out, with characterful rooms and beautiful well tended gardens and terraces. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated, it sometimes feels like you're walking into a 5* hotel! The staff across the board are friendly, approachable and dedicated, and the range of weekly activities, trips out and social events for everyone is incredible. Thank you to everyone at Harwood House!
Our Mother was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer in January 2025 and we chose Hardwood House to care for her in her final months. From the start the standard of care has been exceptional - every time my three sisters or I visited we witnessed the staff looking after our Mother and other residents incredibly well. Empathising with the pain, anger, worry of the residents and always trying to do what was best for them. Despite our Mother being quite demanding about her food, Harwood House bent over backwards to cater for her requirements. They never complained and every time we visited they would ask us if we wanted tea / coffee or anything else. The actual residence is spotless, our Mother's room was really large and well equipped. Despite the sadness of her passing we have absolutely no regrets that she spent her last 6 months at Harwood. We have so much gratitude to the staff it's untrue and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the care home to anyone.
My mother went to Harwood House when she was 86 and had started having falls. Her eyesight was poor, as was her hearing, and her mobility was increasingly limited. Although she wasn't keen to leave her home, she settled in quickly. This was because Harwood was like a real family thanks to the staff. All of the staff, whether carers, nurses, administrators, well being counsellors, laundry and kitchen staff and gardeners care about their guests, which also probably accounts for the low staff turnover. Harwood doesn't seem like a care home, but more like a rather nice boutique hotel for an older generation. As Mum's health deteriorated, the patience and care of the staff increased. Mum was happy and felt safe, secure and well fed. Visits were not a chore, and more of a pleasure to be with my Mum and her extended 'family'. It must have been good as Mum lived happily until she was 96. Thank you Harwood.
We were thrilled upon finding Harwood House only 3 miles from where my mother had lived for nearly 40 years and despite her misgivings she agreed to an initial one month stay recuperating from a hospital stay. Within a week she was calling saying how much she enjoyed her room, the attention from staff and the congeniality of other elder care persons - while also having the flexibility to still attend her church and some other social gatherings. She stayed for I think 2-1/2 years before quickly going downhill and passing during Covid. The family cannot thank the staff enough for all they did to support her - and us - during this 2-1/2 year period. Our photos of celebrating her 94th birthday at Harwood House will be a memory for us all to cherish. Thank you everyone.
A very nice experience and the staff very helpful. I was only there for a short time but I really felt looked after.
The whole team at Harwood House were utterly amazing and we cannot thank them all enough for everything that they did for my father. Everyone was so kind and attentive and they all demonstrated such wonderful care looking after my father brilliantly. We cannot thank them enough, they were all superb. If anyone is looking for a care home place for a loved one to go, you could not do better than Harwood House!
Everyone at Harwood House, nurses, carers kitchen staff, etc. were extremely polite, helpful, and understanding. I had a very nice comfortable room with a large window, shower room and TV. It was cleaned every day. The food was excellent, varied with large helpings! The laundry service was very efficient. I would recommend Harwood House to all my friends needing good care and attention.
My father had the most excellent care at Harwood House. The staff are kind and caring. The home is beautiful, well maintained and managed and also feels homely. The residents’ visitors can visit at anytime with no notice required - total transparency! Residents are never bored as there are activity coordinators on site every day. I would highly recommend Harwood House.
This is a truly wonderful care home with nursing care if needed. A caring team who looks after the residents beyond compare. My mum was here for a couple of weeks; however, we felt that the care and love received was so good that Mum may stay a little while longer. The unseen staff, the backbone of Harwood House, run everything efficiently together with the carers and nurses as a team effort. When leaving my mum after a visit, I always felt comfortable that Mum was in safe and capable hands being cared for, and no need to worry. Always something going on during the day by the well-being team, keeping both mind and body stimulated. A great place to stay if needed and I would feel happy staying here myself.
My husband, who has advanced Parkinson's, stayed at Harwood House for just over a week for Respite Care whilst I went away for a break. He is quite disabled but had excellent care from all the nurses and care workers. He has a medication pump which was well-managed. He enjoyed his stay and all the various activities, particularly the quizzes and the visit to a local gallery. His room was very light and comfortable. He was helped to walk around the lovely garden and supervised during his exercises. The various members of our family who came to visit were made welcome. Knowing that he was well looked after enabled me to enjoy my holiday. I can recommend it.
My mum is currently in Harwood House and she says the staff are very attentive. She is there to recover after an injury. The team are professional, the food looks good and the environment is clean and comfortable with a well-tended garden to enjoy. I would recommend it.
Mum was a resident for 14 months after a fall. The home was arranged by her Doctor at very short notice. From day one all the staff were first rate in both attitude and care. Mum had a large number of allergies, all of these were properly dealt with resulting in having no problems. As daily visitors our entire family were always made welcome, looked after and kept informed of any developments. When one of our son's flew in from Switzerland, as Grandma was nearing the end, the chef kindly made him breakfast as he had not eaten for 24 hours. This thoughtful attitude was reflected throughout the home from the most senior management to the, usually unseen, catering and cleaning staff. Highly recommended.
The staff are consistently friendly to visitors and kind and caring to residents. This includes reception, the manager, the kitchen staff as well as the carers and activity providers. The atmosphere is welcoming and the premises well maintained. Cleanliness is faultless. The nursing staff are always approachable and willing and able to answer questions regarding medical care. I have never had any reason to doubt that the best care is provided.
My Dad was a resident of Harwood House for two weeks respite care following a fall. He was very fragile following a short stay in hospital and struggling to cope due to fatigue, loss of mobility and concussion. We will forever be grateful to the team at Harwood House for the exemplary level of care Dad received. As an independent soul, he preferred to stay in his room a majority of the time but there was no pressure on him to 'join in' and care was on hand to ensure he took medication, exercised and ate. Thankfully, and partially due to the excellent physio treatment arranged for him during his stay, his physical strength improved such that he could return to his home environment. Without doubt, it was the exceptional care and safe environment that enabled him to recuperate quickly. The whole team were fantastic and just so kind to my Dad ensuring he was monitored without smothering him. Everyone we spoke with was extremely responsive and helpful. Thank you.
Mum has stayed in Harwood House three times this year for respite. Each time I've felt comforted by the staff and care that Harwood House provides Mum. Mum feels stimulated in the company of others and this has been beneficial to her mental health. The care home is in lovely surroundings and has been peaceful and quiet when I've visited. The food has been well prepared and Mum has enjoyed each one of her stays. Thank you very much for your kind support and care.
After a week in hospital I came to Harewood House for a respite period, I enjoyed a ground floor room overlooking the garden with all the up to date facilities The staff were very helpful, the food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I was relaxed and happy and soon responded to their care. After three weeks I was well enough to return home and manage on my own. I should like to thank the matron and staff for all their help, I would have no hesitation in returning at any time.
We would like to express our thanks to all the staff of Harwood House for the love and care given to my friend in the time that he was with you. We were so very sorry to lose him but know that the great care that he was given and being in such lovely surroundings must have helped him to reach the great age he did. Thank you all so much.
A beautiful nursing home in a beautiful setting. The staff are some of the most caring, loving people. The home is clean, well maintained and a cheerful place for all the residents. Anyone looking for somewhere for their loved ones should really consider Harwood House.
My mother has been a resident in Harwood House Nursing home for just over 3 years. It was a very difficult decision to make choosing the right home for her to spend her final years but once I had visited Harwood House I knew she would be very happy there. The home has incredibly high standards and always feels very homely. My mother is very well cared for by delightful nursing staff and carers. The well-being staff organise a variety of activities for the residents to participate in catering for physical needs, mental and social needs. It has been extremely difficult for the well-being team with the lockdowns but they have risen to the challenge and been excellent organising video calls with family and friends. The home has an excellent chef who caters for the residents individual dietary needs. The admin staff send out regular updates of any changes in the home.
By 2017 it was clear that Mum, a feisty 90-year old with Alzheimer's, was no longer capable of looking after herself and the search began for a suitable care home. Harwood House appeared to be a cut above the others, and Mum became a resident. Subsequent experience amply confirmed initial impressions: a glorious location, large and comfortable communal rooms, excellent food, and social contact and activities to provide the stimulation that Mum needed. She came to think of Harwood House as 'my home'. The staff deserve special praise - never too busy to talk about Mum's progress, right on top of the latest developments while keeping a clear perspective on Mum's long-term decline, and ensuring loving personal relations with residents. They kept the family in close touch during Mum's final weeks. The management did their best to keep ahead of the unsatisfactory official guidance on Covid-19. In sum: Expensive, but excellent - Mum could not have been better provided for in her final years.
