View Full Details of Barchester Ashlar House Care HomeMy mother has been a resident for almost a year and we are very grateful for the warm attentive care of the numerous staff, the welcoming atmosphere for both new residents and their family, and for the clean, tidy rooms and lounges. The staff put on lovely entertainment every day which is fantastic! There are TVs as well as radios, but they are not disturbingly loud. The food is well prepared and plentiful. The staff also wash and groom residents who need help. A wonderful place.
Every time I visit my mother, I come away feeling at peace, happy and so very thankful that we found such a wonderful home for her. Throughout her life, my mother has always been very particular and had exceptionally high expectations, so finding a home that she would be comfortable in was a huge challenge. Ashlar ticks every single box for her, and for my sister and I. The amount and variety of activities Ashlar runs, ensures that every resident can engage to whichever level they wish or are able. My mother enjoys sitting outside in the beautifully colourful, sensory courtyard garden, particularly during this sunny weather - it's her happy place! More than just a care home, Ashlar is a real family environment. The staff are so loving and caring to all the residents, you can tell it's more than just a job to them. She's been there now for two and a half years and she is the happiest I've seen her in many, many years. Thank you, Ashlar family!
Relative been here for over a year. Nothing to much trouble and all staff happy to go the extra mile. Very caring and extracurricular activities making a very welcome atmosphere. Extremely satisfied that relative now living in such an environment.
My aunt asked to go to the toilet and had to wait an hour before she was taken. This is not acceptable. While I was there another lady asked to go to the toilet and she had to wait over two hours. It was only when I made a complaint to one member of staff, in particular, was she then taken. The member of staff said she had to wait as other nurses were seeing to other patients, but she was just doing office work and could have taken her. She was very unhelpful and said her work in the office was more important. Surely patient care should be the priority especially as they rely on the staff for everything. It is a basic human right to be able to go to the toilet and not have to wait atleast an hour to be taken.
Due to the distance involved, we visit our friend (of over 50 years!) about three times a year. Each visit varies in timing - sometimes morning, sometimes afternoon - but we have always found the staff to be engaging with residents in a positive and warm atmosphere. Our friend has certainly benefitted from this experience and has, despite some mobility problems, happily involved herself in all activities. Thank you. Rod Allen
Our friend of over 50 years and we visit at least 3 times a year due to the distance. She is so happy and comfortable and joins in every possible activity, despite her mobility problems. Thank you for taking such good care of her.
My aunt is very happy with the way in which she is treated by staff and says how loving and caring they are and it is her opinion that for them, it is more than just a job. Throughout my unannounced visits, I have always found her clean, well cared for and happy.
My husband has been a resident at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home for nearly 2 years. His behaviour has been challenging at times, but the whole team of staff from nurses, carers, admin and household, have worked so hard to get to know him and recognise his behaviours to ensure they make him feel safe, secure and comfortable. I also have a wonderful relationship with the team here, who have been extremely supportive to me and I feel able to speak freely with them concerning my husband's care. He celebrated his 70th birthday last week and everyone made such an effort and made a fuss of him. He seemed to have some understanding of the occasion and certainly enjoyed the music, cake and balloons along with fellow residents who joined in. I personally spend many hours at Ashlar each day and observe how staff care for other residents as well as my husband, and I am confident I made the right decision in placing him in their care.
The staff at Ashlar House have made what could have been a very stressful, upsetting situation so much more manageable. They are so caring and not only do they look after the residents but also the family members. They are always available to chat and have been a massive support system to me and my whole family. We are so grateful for their kindness and the care they give our dad on a daily basis.
Mum has been resident at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home since November 2023 and is very happy and comfortable there. The staff are amazing so friendly and very caring. There is a lovely atmosphere when you visit and always a very warm welcome from everyone. Mum is well cared for by caring, professional staff, nothing is too much trouble and she is treated with utmost care and dignity. The facilities are very good and the rooms, bathrooms are clean and well-kept, clothing and bedding get washed every day and the food menus are very good. Ashlar House definitely deserves a five-star rating.
Since my mother's arrival at Ashlar House in June 2023 I have been delighted with the care that she has received. She has always been treated with dignity and kindness and she very much considers this as her home. The ability of the carers and nurses here to deal with her volatile diabetes has enabled her to live a very comfortable life in a lovely environment for which I am very grateful. I would recommend this home to anyone without hesitation.
My mother has been a resident at Ashlar House for a number of years. She is looked after to the highest standards, the staff are friendly and caring and the manager is unflappable and has time to talk and listen to any concerns.
Value - not the payer, cannot evaluate. Needs more staff sometimes. Exercise and fresh air, urgent, when possible. Blankets insufficient on bed. Overall, good.
My father was in Barchester Ashlar House Care Home for ten weeks last year and it was excellent in all respects. I was so glad and lucky to find that they had a room available when I needed a place for my uncle last August (2023). He has been there ever since and is very happy. I could 'box tick' all the good points about Ashlar but the main difference compared with other homes that I have visited is that all of the staff really get to know all of the residents and this is what leads to such good care being given. The nurses are concerned to make sure that residents' dignity is maintained at all times and along with the management team, always embrace any concerns that family members may have and are happy to accommodate their requirements.
In my experience, the staff at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home are always professional and caring when carrying out their duties with the residents. There is a caring, friendly atmosphere which makes relatives feel at ease, welcomed and valued. All staff, management, administrative, nursing carers and domestics, show care, courtesy and respect to all visitors which makes relatives feel able to speak to any member of staff if any concerns over the relatives arise. This, I feel, is particularly important when a relative first arrives at a care home which can be very stressful for all. I highly recommend Ashlar House to prospective residents.
Excellent overall package of environment and quality of care. Hard to think of anything that could be improved upon. Recommended. Staff do a great job of looking after the residents in very trying circumstances.
When you enter the home you are made to feel welcome and are greeted with a warm smile from the lovely receptionist. The home is always immaculate and the gardens well kept. The rooms are well-furnished and comfortable for all residents. Every room and living area is cleaned at least every day. Management are always approachable and hospitable, and their doors are always open for residents and their families to give support and advice. The carers and nurses are exceptional, nothing is ever a problem. They're always happy and treat all residents like family of their own by keeping regular routine specialized for each tenant/ patient. The catering is brilliant with 3-course meals every day whether it be in the dining room or taken individually to each patient's room. Always warm and well cooked with at least 2 choices per course. The eating area, like the rest of the home, is always spotless and just as you would want your home. Exceptional care home.
This is an excellent care home. I was very impressed from the very beginning and all my questions and worries were answered by the manager. Everything she said was absolutely correct and she showed a huge amount of compassion and respect. The nursing staff could not have been more caring and understanding. I am amazed at how perfectly they looked after my family member. Well done to the whole team as they work beautifully together to provide an outstanding service.
This is the 3rd care home that Mum has been in and most certainly the best. The whole team is amazing. They always have time to talk with you and answer any questions you may have. They have always treated Mum as an individual, not just another resident, and know her likes and dislikes so can manage her care in the best way for her. The place is always spotless and the food is amazing! There is an entertainment program and relatives/carers are encouraged to join in. I cannot praise this home enough. Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do. You are all stars!
What a fabulous place is Ashlar House. I have become a regular visitor here. The facilities are fabulous, the food and menu choices amazing, the care is second to none, and the entertainment and activities are wonderful. I visited a friend who came to Ashlar House in December 2023 and they are very happy there. I am able to visit with my daughter's dog, and we are both made to feel most welcome. There is a cafe for residents and visitors to enjoy refreshments together and a regular calendar of activities, outings and visitors is provided so that there is always something happening. I have been really impressed with everything about Ashlar House. Well done to all the team!
