View Full Details of Foxholes Care HomeAs mum was my last remaining relative and I currently live in Australia, it was a pleasure visiting my dying mother whilst she was at Foxholes. It was a three month journey and although it was difficult for my mother who was a very independent and strong willed woman, she was always treated with respect and dignity by the staff. As mum did not want to pass away in hospital, it was up to Foxholes to provide end of care and I am very happy with all the staff's efforts and attention to my mother. It was very reassuring to know that there would always be someone there for mum 24/7.
Mum didn't want to go into a care home, but Foxholes was different. Unlike a corporation Foxholes is a family owned, family run home so mum was able to furnish and personalise her room. It looked much like her front lounge. We were also able to come and go as if visiting her at home, as were her many friends. The staff were lovely, patient and professional. Mum was assigned a key worker, but all the carers popped in to say hello. She was never alone. She had a lovely room overlooking the landscaped garden. Activities were laid on both morning and afternoon. Some, like Irish dancing, or bringing an owl in, seemed to be done especially for mum. Towards the end, mum was cared for exceptionally well. She was warm, comfortable and pain free with regular checks by the GP. And when we needed to be there by her bedside, we were made welcome and looked after too. It made mum's passing more bearable, as were the messages of support and condolences from the staff, carers, residents and owners.
My mum was very reluctant to leave her own home, but when she saw Foxholes with its spacious and pristine facilities and the beautiful grounds, she was happy to take up residence there. The warmth and compassion shown by all staff was outstanding, and I always felt my mum was in extremely safe hands. When any (very minor) issue arose, it was dealt with promptly and taken seriously, thus ensuring that my mum felt that she had a voice and was among people who cared. The very full programme of activities, catering to every taste, was impressive, and helped create the positive atmosphere that is immediately noticeable on entering the building. In her final days my mum needed full nursing care, and I will always be grateful for the way that she - and my husband and I - were supported at this difficult time. Staff were professional and immensely kind. I fully recommend Foxholes; if I can spend my twilight years in somewhere anything like as good as this, I will consider myself blessed!
I visited my dad and he was very happy and comfortable. He is in a nice routine and very settled there. We had a cup of tea together and sat in his room enjoying the lovely view. He is warm and had enjoyed a nice bath recently.
My experience with Foxholes is very good. My father-in-law for the past 18 months has been looked after in a very caring, attentive and supportive manner. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for the staff. The home is very well run by a close family who are always around and are very approachable to answer any questions. The home is kept very clean throughout and is freshly decorated regularly. The food always looks delicious and is served and presented nicely. Although my father-in-law cannot get involved in all of the full program of activities the ones that he can enjoy are the many involving live music. All in all, we are very pleased with his care and can highly recommend Foxholes.
My dear dad has been in Foxholes care for over a year. He is a true gentleman aged 94 with specific needs. I feel most grateful that he has the best of care in his final years. The Foxholes team treat him with kindness and respect, fine-tuning his needs in a gentle and happy manner. When you walk into Foxholes you could easily be walking into the reception of a five-star hotel. A beautiful place and set in beautiful grounds with views of the countryside. The home is run by a close-knit family who are constantly around to offer their support. There is always a smile to be shared. There is a weekly program of ever-changing activities. Mealtimes are exceptional with freshly prepared choices, accompanied by a glass of wine if preferred. Families are welcome to join for mealtimes too. Birthdays are celebrated with a homemade cake and a party atmosphere. Calendar events are also given the very best of celebrations. "A big thank you" to the Foxholes team you are an outstanding care home!
My mother has been a resident at Foxholes Care Home for the past five years. It was her decision to sell her home and move into Foxholes as her sight, hearing and mobility deteriorated. Having been independent the adjustment to living in a community where all her needs were met was not easy. The staff understood this and treated her with understanding and compassion. The rooms and facilities inside and out are excellent and most importantly the staff are very capable and kind. The meals and snacks are appetising and presented in an attractive fashion. It is like living in a five-star hotel. There are daily activities and although mother cannot always take part the staff includes her and she is not left alone in her room. Now at 100 years old, she is happy and content. What more could the family ask?
My mother lived at Foxholes from November 2019 until July 2024, whilst she was bravely battling dementia. She was treated with respect, kindness and patience by all the staff during that time, for which I am truly grateful. She was gently encouraged to join in activities and particularly enjoyed ones involving music. There were also regular events for the family to attend with her, which were well organised and most enjoyable. During her final few days many of the staff popped in to see her. The care she received during that time, and the kindness, compassion and support we, as a family, were shown really was second to none. I can't thank the staff enough. I will never forget their kindness. They deserve the highest recommendation.
Overall, the best care home in the area.
My mother has been a resident at Foxholes for over seven years. I cannot fault the care she has received during this time. I find the home is very family orientated. Lots of activities to take part in. My mother has dementia and is treated with kindness. The staff always have time to sit with her if needed.
My father is very happy at Foxholes and has been enjoying the daily activities. His room is light and cool with an amazing view of the countryside. He has been getting to know his fellow residents which is what we really wanted for him.
My Mum has been at Foxholes for a few years now, with advancing dementia. She is content to stay in her peaceful, bright room overlooking trees, horse paddocks and the beautiful new gardens. She cannot speak now, but all the staff are so kind and considerate with her, anticipating and checking on her needs, treating her with dignity, and making sure she is comfortable. I have always been very happy with the care she receives at Foxholes - the management team are always visible, the home has a lovely family atmosphere, and I am always kept aware of any health concerns about my mother. They have wonderful staff and I see them treating residents with kindness and compassion. I am so grateful for the excellent care they give to my Mum. For anyone looking for a place for their loved one, I would recommend looking at Foxholes - the whole team does a wonderful job.
It is very early days for my dad at Foxholes who has been diagnosed with vascular dementia. My first impressions at the home have been entirely positive. The staff have been consistently friendly and professional. Communication with the care home has been good which has been so important for our family. It has been wonderful to see photos of dad enjoying several activities and interacting with others. The home is immaculate and has a wonderful, relaxed family feel to it. Dad's room has a spectacular view and is spacious, light and well-furnished. The grounds, layout and facilities are of a very high standard and it is wonderful to see dad being incredibly well cared for.
Mum was with Foxholes for almost 2 years and joined with vascular dementia. Mum loved Foxholes from her very first visit and throughout. The warm, friendly, family environment is evident as soon as you walk in. The team are incredible and treated Mum with dignity, compassion, empathy and love. As a social character, Mum loved being amongst the many activities that were on offer and the grounds and facilities are lovely. Mum was happy, secure and content in Foxholes and her experience was the best final chapter for Mum that, given her circumstances, we could hope for. As her family, we also felt part of the Foxholes family and were welcome to visit any time. Even a couple of local cats choose to visit! My experience with the team has been overwhelmingly positive and I am both grateful and thankful that Mum was cared for at Foxholes.
This care home is a wonderful place for the elderly to live out their lives. The home is immaculate and clean and the care is fantastic. The staff are friendly and extremely caring for residents and their families. My mum has been there since the middle of October and she has improved significantly due to the outstanding care that she has received and I am truly grateful for it. She is happy and settled which in turn makes me happy as I know she is safe and well cared for.
Dad initially moved to Foxholes in a respite capacity. His care was so good and the room so well laid out and comfortable, that he decided he wanted to stay on a permanent basis. He really developed a relationship with his care team, and he felt safe and secure there. He enjoyed his 'Gentlemen's Lunches' on a Wednesday and it made such a difference to him, knowing there was someone there for him if needed, but also the fact that he could find peace and privacy in his room, having time to reflect. It was special for him, that he could enjoy the views of the ponies in the paddocks and the views of Hertfordshire beyond. He was made an enormous fuss of by everybody for his 100th birthday and thoroughly enjoyed his festivities. Sadly Dad has now crossed over but it has made such a difference to the whole family, knowing that he spent his final months in such a special place. Thank you to all the staff at Foxholes.
My mother had two weeks of respite in Foxholes and was made to feel at home straight away with the friendly staff. The facilities are very nice. She was looked after very well. My room was very comfortable. The staff even found her a recliner chair and a fan. The food was very nice and the activities were very good. You can join in if you want to. I would definitely recommend it to other people.
My husband lived at Foxholes Care Home from May 2018 until his death in December 2022. During that time his care was exemplary. He was always looked after and was contented throughout his stay. He received appropriate care all through his time there. When he first went to Foxholes, the Home Manager said it would be a home for life but I was sceptical feeling pretty sure that they would move him on if he proved difficult or his needs were too great. I was wrong. Apart from one ten-day hospital stay in July last year, he remained at the home until his death. It really was home to him and during his last days, many of the staff popped in to see him. The care and support we received from everyone during his last days were amazing and deserve the highest recommendation. I really can't thank the staff at the home enough for caring for him and appreciating him as a person throughout his time there. I always knew he was in safe hands and content where he was.
We're so lucky to have found Foxholes. My father has dementia and had struggled at another care home. Having looked at 10+ other places, I knew we'd found what we were looking for the moment we walked in. The residents were smiling and actively engaged with one another (4 were playing scrabble) and the outlook is gorgeous: horses and green fields as far as the eye can see. The accommodation is also top-notch. Everything feels luxurious, and perhaps the most important thing - the food - is top quality. For my dad that was the key. Every meal for him feels like a special occasion. He's also really enjoyed the weekly 'Gents Lunches' which remind him of his days in business. Again, this was a clincher for us because we'd looked at so many places that seemed only to cater for elderly ladies. This one feels like it has a proper mix - like the real world. The staff are very attentive, and communication between staff and our family has been easy and regular. Foxholes is a very special place.
My elderly and much-loved Dad was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year without having made any preparations or expressed any preferences. It caused many months of stress for my sister and me, the single biggest problem obviously being locating the best place for him. Due to decades of hard work and saving Dad was luckily in a position to afford the very best care; we were able to consider it anywhere. The first place Dad went to didn't suit for many reasons but then my sister found Foxholes. Dad has now been there for six months and we could not be happier. The premises and grounds are beautiful, Dad says the food is first class and most importantly the staff, from the very top-down, are wonderful. I believe that the fact it is family-owned and run, rather than the asset of some corporate entity, may well be a key factor in this. And if I'm being really direct it isn't as expensive as Dad's previous place. I couldn't recommend Foxholes more highly.
