View Full Details of The West GateEvery member of staff whom I have met at the West Gate has been so helpful and kind to all of the residents; nothing is too much trouble, even though they are all so busy. Whenever you pass a non "Front Line Member", as in the people in the laundry or cleaning or maintenance, they are all so cheerful and are happy to interact with all they meet, even for ones whose English is not great, you always get big smiles. I believe my father is lucky to be there.
I have been a visitor many times to see my father-in-law, Frederick. On every occasion, I have found all the staff whom I have spoken to to be friendly and helpful. I think that the West Gate is very well run and managed. The carers are compassionate and kind to the residents, looking after their individual needs with great patience and gentleness. The Westgate does everything they can to make life as comfortable as possible for the residents with homely decor in the main areas and the gardening and home-style cooked meals with care, that is flexible for each individual needs, considering the difficult circumstances that residents find themselves in.
Dad has been a resident here for nearly 2 years here, and we cannot compliment the management, staff and activities coordinators highly enough. We do not notify in advance if any visits, so see the home as it really is, which is a very friendly and caring environment. We would recommend this establishment from personal observations and experience.
The standout experience we were left with was how caring and energised the staff were when in contact with the patients. And further impressed with the approachability of all the admin, cleaners, support and medical staff. Especially given the constant pressure of the patient care that comes with elderly and dementia patients.
My experience of the care given at the Westgate was Amazing! ALL staff at the Westgate are kind, caring, professional, friendly and go above and beyond. We could visit at any time and was always made to feel very welcome. Family are given access to an app that gives details of daily care given and a facility to send messages but if you choose to ring instead someone is always available to answer any queries The home was secure and safe.
The West Gate have taken care of my dad since being discharged from hospital on 28/4/25. The care and dignity that Dad is receiving is absolutely outstanding. Nothing is ever too much trouble; we are always greeted with a smile when visiting and never feel in the way. The staff are friendly, efficient and most of all kind. I cannot recommend this care home enough. They have made us feel part of their family.
Access anytime, always well greeted by staff. All friendly and approachable. Wife seems please to see staff/carers. Management listens to family and is generally around. Staff attentive to wife. Time taken to assist wife to eat. Room generally always clean, so is wife in dress and appearance.
Arrived Thursday after New Year. Welcomed! They provided me with clothes, I only had my boots and nightshirt. Contented now home at last. Petty cash for petty short-term loans would be useful. I'm short of a shilling!
The staff care deeply about our father. They consistently strive to provide care, safety and support for him. Always going above and beyond. They really take the time to get to know him, listen to his needs and treat him with dignity. The food and drink provided is great - our father always raves about the delicious puddings and it can often be the highlight of his day. If I have any worries or concerns the staff are always available to discuss anything. The gateway gives a great insight into how each day is going which enables me to have a comprehensive understanding so I feel at ease that my father is happy and cared for.
I am exceptionally pleased with the level of care received for my mum. The staff are very caring in a holistic manner. The food Is over standard and excellent.
The staff, both in the office and the nurses, are helpful and considerate. The office staff have always been more than happy to answer any questions I may have as to my mother's care and the nursing staff regularly pop in to my mother while I am visiting to check she is okay and to offer drinks etc. While I am sorry to see my mother so frail, I do feel she is in good hands.
My father was at The West Gare for approximately two and a half years, in which time, he was treated with respect and dignity at all times. He was made to feel valued within his new home and was involved in my activities within the home and the wider community on trips out. We always found the home clean and tidy, and Dad's food always looked and smelt delicious. As a large family, we could visit Dad at any time and were always made to feel welcome by all the staff, which was a great comfort to us all. Thank you to all.
My husband moved into The West Gate in June after being at another home, and the difference to his day-to-day life is amazing. At only 45 with dementia and other neurological ailments we were struggling to find a home that could cope with his needs. But as a family we are so happy with the way he has been welcomed at the West Gate. He's been out on trips and has started interacting with staff and other residentsm he now joins in games and quizzes and loves his pampering sessions in the pod, not only do they look after his physical health they also promote emotional wellness and social development, they have given him a new life at the West Gate and we are so grateful.
My brother moved here from a previous care home. The staff are all lovely, smiley, interactive and nothing is too much. The staff have kept me informed of any changes in his health. The staff are extensively trained and have dealt with a couple of his situations with ease, care and compassion. He has been encouraged to join activities, day trips, games and pampering sessions. His room is modern, light and he is allowed pictures on the wall and personal touches. The food is amazing and he is given choices on what he would like, the snacks and refreshments provided throughout the day have ensured he stays hydrated and nourished. I am always made to feel welcome and part of a much larger family, but most importantly my brother has regained some independence, happiness and is more active. I can't thank the staff enough for the ongoing care and support we receive.
I thank all the staff for looking after my very good friend. Thanks for everything you do for him as a resident. Thank you very much.
Every effort has been made to make my mother comfortable and safe. She is treated with respect and kindness. Her room is pleasant, warm and comfortable and facilities are good, though she has not been willing to attend activities or the day room despite encouragement. Well managed and staffed.
My family member is receiving palliative care at The West Gate. All their needs are being met to a good standard, not quite like home but close enough. They are regularly checked by a caring team who support with much kindness and a nursing team who show genuine care and understanding to us both at this very difficult time. All staff have ensured that this transition to nursing care has been as smooth as possible, their room has been made to feel homely and cosy for us to spend time together along with visiting family and friends. Thank you to everyone at The West Gate.
Very happy with the service received by my wife, nice room, nice staff and good food.
I am very happy with The West Gate Nursing Home. They try to make Mum happy when she is confused and restless. The staff are all excellent and very patient and kind. Overall, I can't fault this home. The entertainment is also good and they have numerous events happening throughout the week.
The home is great, the staff are generally very caring and respectful to both residents and family members when visiting and normally staff are very approachable, especially when making queries or requests, and when opening the main door always with a smile when greeted, but I found on today's visit 11/02/23 I had the greeting of what appears to me attitude and unpleasant tone of voice as if she needed to impress someone and proceeded to usher me into a lounge lecturing me about procedures and being ready to receive visits, I understand if my Mother for some reason at 10.45am had not yet received her personal care as yet, which on other morning visits had not prevented me to see my Mother as I fully understand that at times things can happen as such staff shortages etc. She had not had her P/C as yet, I felt very ruffled and felt that my time with my Mother was shortened due to this and waiting. You have a great team apart from today's experience, maybe she needs training in people skills.
