View Full Details of Acorn Court Care HomeIt was a very difficult decision for our family to move my husband to Acorn Court. He was very aware he wasn't living at home and didn't want to be there. The day to day life there is nice and relaxed but the staff are always aware of residents needs and difficulties. The staff work well as a team. The food, entertainment and activities are extremely good. Every member of staff - reception team, activities team, maintenance, housekeeping, management, carers and nurses cared for my husband and us as a family in a warm, kind, professional, exemplary way. They listened to us with regard to my husband's care, were prompt in responding to anything we suggested to make his life more comfortable there. Sadly my husband passed away in Acorn Court, the sympathy, understanding, respect and dignity they afforded him throughout his last days there and after he passed away was heartwarming and very moving. When I left him I knew he was in excellent caring hands. Thank you to all at Acorn Court.
Our father was a reluctant resident but during his short time at Acorn Court he was shown exemplary care by all. The staff were courteous and caring and you felt that any suggestions made were listened to and acted upon. Any issues (of which there were few), resolved, and the end of life care was beyond reproach. Nothing was too much trouble. Our father, and the family, were made to feel welcome, supported and respected. The range of activities both within and outside the home great. We too would have no hesitation in recommending the home and its staff. Particular mention must go to one individual, (you know who you are!), who is an outstanding example of everything you would want from a carer for your relative at the dusk of their lives. The communication facilitated by the home with us as a family and the GP was also good, the GP again listened to our and our father's concerns and implemented a care plan which everyone was comfortable with
As a family we are so very grateful for the wonderful care, love and dignity shown to our Mum during her time at Acorn Court. Everyone was so lovely not only to her but to us as a family. Nothing was ever too much trouble and as we got to know the staff from management, admin, receptionists, carers, chefs, cleaners and maintenance we realised Mum had become part of a big loving family. Despite her not wanting to join in a lot of activities she was never left out of any celebration, of which there were many. If she wouldn't go to them they brought it to her and we have some fabulous photos showing us that, with her smiling in every one so we know she was very happy there. Unfortunately we lost Mum in April but the end of life care given was second to none and we were shown so much love and respect by all the staff. We would not hesitate recommending Acorn Court to any family having to make the difficult decision to find a home where their loved ones will be cared for, safe and happy.
It's hard to express the deep gratitude I feel for Acorn Court. Both of my parents, with very different experiences of dementia, have been cared for there at separate times and always as the unique individuals they are. The home and gardens are spotless, comfortable, and welcoming. Residents can personalise their rooms, which really helps ease the transition. Daily care is delivered with dignity, and residents are always smartly dressed, which supports their dignity and identity. The food and range of activities are exceptional-like a five-star all-inclusive. Our mum is truly thriving. The carers are kind, attentive, and bring a lovely sense of humour to their work. It's also reassuring to see the same faces, thanks to strong staff retention. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Acorn Court to any family looking for a compassionate, professional care home for their loved ones.
I cannot fault Acorn Court. Not only do they take superb care of my mum, they have also taken great care of my sister and I. They appreciate that care can stretch beyond the needs of the resident. The staff are caring, knowledgeable, professional and very very caring and kind. I can't recommend Acorn Court highly enough.
On each of our visits before Mum moved in, which was only a week ago, we were greeted warmly by all the members of staff that we met. All the team were knowledgeable and clearly well versed in looking after frail residents. This is a new experience for us so we need to lean heavily on the team. All our questions about the home, the room, activities, the arrangements with the GP etc. were handled promptly with as much clarity as was possible. Throughout our contact we felt that we could approach the team for help and not be wasting their time. In view of Mums Dementia any change of scene is a potential challenge but she seems to have settled in quite well in the short time she has been at the home. This speaks well of how the interaction by the team has been undertaken.
Independent open assessment of new resident prior to admission. Calm caring environment helps to create confidence for new resident. Open access visiting encouraged. Delighted that my mother is calm, relaxed and secure in Acorn Court.
Above and beyond support during an extremely difficult time. Staff support was increased and availability/ contact with the relevant staff was smooth and timely. Staff who don't even work on the same floor as 'our' floor showed care and concern, reflecting the 'family' ethos prevalent throughout the home
I am very grateful for the wonderful care provided by all the staff at Acorn Court Care Home. Also, every member of the team is welcoming and cheerful, creating a very pleasant atmosphere. I noticed right from the start, the trouble and time staff took to attend to the individual needs of residents, e.g. in the choices available at meal times. It is difficult to find activities which interest my husband (and it is also difficult for him being the only male resident on the ground floor Dementia wing) but I am grateful for the efforts made to engage him. Also, I am aware of and thankful for the members of staff who have long conversations with him (often going around the same loop multiple times). I am sorry that I cannot visit frequently at present (due to long-term illness), so I'm grateful my husband is being so well looked after. Thank you so much.
I am writing to express my sincere thanks for the professional way in which the staff of Acorn Court addressed the needs of my friend who spent her last few days in your care. I was so impressed by the compassion exhibited by every member of your team when addressing the needs of her. The respect and understanding witnessed each day through the care and tenderness shown was so appreciated by her daughters and friends alike, who sat with her throughout the week at such a traumatic time. The sympathetic and caring approach of all staff was exemplary, reflecting the total professionalism of the team as a whole. One cannot single out one individual as they all approached their duties in a friendly caring manner which was appreciated by all. The facilities were kept to a very high standard with the rooms sympathetically furnished and kept clean and tidy. Of particular interest was the security of the floors, all protected by coded doors which ensured the safety of clients. Whilst my friend was unable to partake, it was very evident when talking to other clients how much they enjoyed their meals and appreciated the varied menu. In conclusion, whilst the week proved to be very distressing for all, through your team's positive, friendly and flexible approach you created a supportive atmosphere which was so welcomed. I have no hesitation in recommending Acorn Court and close by thanking each and every member of the team that supported both my friend and her family and friends at this distressing time. Thank you.
The care team are very good and I have every confidence in them. They are always welcoming and I know that my husband is, for the most part, settled and comfortable. I have two criticisms, one minor, the second more serious. The minor one relates to the fact that I'm usually offered a drink when I visit; tea or coffee which is often accompanied with cake or biscuits which is very pleasant. Unfortunately on a number of occasions the cake has been stale, which is disappointing and one hopes that this is not the usual quality of the food that is given to the residents. My second criticism relates to the Christmas decorations both last year and this year. Not only do I think that they are over the top, it concerns me that the cost of these decorations must be pretty high and as I, like others, am paying large sums of money for my husband's care, this does not seem right. I would like to know what percentage of the fees we pay go towards such unimportant items.
Mum was moved to Acorn Court a year ago after a stay in hospital after becoming very unwell. She was unable to manage at home anymore and had become very lonely. She has settled well considering she is bed-bound. She speaks very highly of the staff. She feels she is very well cared for and everybody is really kind. I am also happy with the care she receives and find the staff very helpful and willing to accommodate. Sometimes Mum isn't keen on the food but is too polite to say as she worries about offending the staff. She doesn't like red meat and although I have told the staff she often still gets given it. Other than that I have no complaints. It's good to see the staff wearing their name badges.
I have always found the care team polite, informative, kind and caring. My mother has been well cared for, this is a tremendous comfort to me and my family especially as she is receiving end-of-life care.
The care my mother receives at Acorn Court is superb. To see her smiling and enjoying all the activities, whilst being cared for by professional, kind staff is so reassuring. She is always given the option to spend time with other residents or have a quiet time on her own, always treated with respect and given choices. She enjoys such varied outings to garden centres, and museums and is entertained frequently by the many visiting performers. Thank you Acorn Court.
We are very happy with the care provided by the care home for Mum. The staff are so attentive and can’t do enough for her and the other residents. Mum says how lovely they are to her and likes having a laugh and joke with them. She is particularly fond of one member of staff in particular who is a lovely lady and so kind to Mum. Mum doesn’t always join in the activities and can isolate herself sometimes which is a shame as the entertainment team do provide a lot of different activities and events. A particular member of staff and some of the other staff do encourage Mum to join in which we are grateful for and we are glad to see she has been going on some of the trips lately and even been joining in with the fitness classes.
My aunt received wonderful care and nursing for the 3 years she was at Acorn Court. The staff are so patient and understanding. Very friendly and helpful. A very clean and fresh care home. Always some activity going on inside and outdoors (weather permitting). My mother was also at Acorn Court so when my aunt had to go into a care home I didn't consider anywhere else for her.
My mother has been at Acorn Court for over 3 years. The care provided has been excellent. My mother`s needs have been attended to with professionalism and compassion. The staff engage and show interest and make the home a great place to be a resident and visitor. We really appreciate the work of the staff and it is reassuring to know that my mother is safe and well cared for.
Both my parents have been residents at Acorn Court since June 2023 & have been well looked after. Unfortunately, my mother passed away just before Xmas and all the care home staff have been fantastic with how they have looked after Mum in her time with them & the compassion shown to my father & the family.
My mother has been at Acorn Court Care Home for five years this coming October, she spent a few weeks there after being in hospital. When it came time for her to go home she decided it was where she wanted to stay! Mum is shown care, respect and love from her ‘Acorn Court family’. The staff are very friendly and welcoming to visitors, it is a lovely environment to come into.
Two years on, I continue to be pleased with the standard of care my relative receives. The management is always available to answer queries regarding care and implement any changes necessary. Staff are kind and welcoming to visitors.
