View Full Details of Avon Lodge Care CentreWhilst not perfect, and certainly in need of a makeover, there is some excellent care at this home, and whilst it can be somewhat erratic, I do believe that most of the staff genuinely care and do their best. Management, however, and communicating can be chaotic, and could be better organised.
My mum was with you for over 4 years, she was very happy in Avon Lodge and made many friends with the management and staff. As she was with you for so long, she was sad to see the high turnover of staff and was pleased that the number of temporary staff has now reduced. You are a wonderful team, several of you have been so kind to Mum and I know she enjoyed her chats with you and considered you friends. Thank you so much.
Being a F/T carer to my husband diagnosed with EOL, Vascular dementia/Alz was hard. However, in March I found that I have breast cancer and couldn't care for my husband whilst I recovered. Avon Lodge had a room & local to me. To be honest the thought of placing him in a home gave me mixed feelings. I knew he would be cared for, but felt terribly guilty. From the first day of arrival, my husband was welcomed and made to feel important instantly. He was shown a rooms, walked through & asked to choose which fit him best. For once I didn't have to make his decisions, his feelings came first and he was in his element being treated as a person in his own right. Brilliant. Everyone he came into contact with treated him with kindness and respect. Moving forward and his time there has gone on, I can say honestly, all the care, food, entertainment, days out have been brilliant. His daily care faultless. Within a week he was totally at home and told me he loved it there. Family encouraged to join in
My father lives at Avon Lodge and I would recommend it to anyone. The staff are so loving and really take their role seriously and can make the residents smile which is so important. The activities and events put on are brilliant with such a range of things to do and performances to watch and they find any excuse to have a party which celebrating really brings the residents out of their shell and gives them such joy. I'm greatful every day that I chose to put my father's care in their capable hands. Thank you to all the carers and events staff and management for looking after my dad as he is also my best friend
My dad staying here not a good ended up in hospital with severe dehydration left in chair in bedroom ,ignoring him hours not washing or cleaning him if mum wasn't in to feed him every day probably wouldn't of been fed as can't fed himself manager at time not good left in urine soaked pad came home for a while since gone to new home which is fantastic
I would like to say that when I wrote my review I was not happy with the management but we have sat down and talked which is what we should of done before I wrote my review.I hope that everything is now sorted I was very upset at the time.My brother is so lucky to have such good care and has come out of himself and now smiles. They put on lot's of things for the residents.
My friend went to Avon Lodge following a spell in hospital & when she arrived it was as a 'bed patient'. It took her a while to adjust & settle to her new surroundings and during that time the staff were very kind to her. They tried to organise food that she felt able to eat and they called in to see her for chats when she was feeling lonely and frightened. The nursing team gave her as much time as they could and the property team put up pictures and shelves for her so that she could display the precious ornaments that she had taken. They made the effort to coax her gradually to join other patients in the communal areas for meals & activities and also took her on trips to local shops & garden centres. My friend came to love the staff & regard them as friends. By the time she died she was very happy at Avon Lodge. After her death the staff continued to give support while her belongings & funeral were dealt with. Two people also went to her funeral which was appreciated.
Very good care and lovely staff with lovely food.
In the short time of being acquainted with Avon Lodge I have found them caring and helpful.
My dad came into this nursing home through his own choice. This was not what I wanted but I am so glad he did as in the short time he was here. He was a changed man, eating and drinking. The whole team from carers, management, maintenance etc. Nothing was too much trouble for Dad or for us as a family. We laughed and cried together each and every person went above and beyond.
My overall experience of this facility is excellent. The staff from management through to cleaners was the best. I can't thank the carers enough for the attention, care, comfort and warmth that they gave him. The medical team were on the ball with his health. Best wishes to you all.
Dad requested to come into a nursing home, I would have liked him to stay home to take care of him. I am so glad he came to this nursing home, the short time he was here they treated him with care and love. The whole team from the carers, management, maintenance etc were excellent, nothing was too much trouble for Dad and for us as a family.
The pictures of the home don't show what it really looks like inside. Most of the staff are nice but there are lots of agency men caring for the personal needs of women. We made a big mistake using this care home and need to look for somewhere that actually does care about its dementia residents. I have seen residents on the floor and had to go and get someone to help. There is very little interaction with residents as far too often there is agency staff on duty. I feel that we have made a big mistake. The amount of money being charged a month which amounts to about £18000. You would expect excellent care and compassion, this is definitely not happening. I feel I have done my mum a great injustice, who would want young men doing their personal care? Are all care homes the same!
Very nice staff and care my mum gets well looked after at all times, thanks for your loving care and nice meals and very clean home at all times and good management thanks again for all your help with Mum.
I find people here helpful and friendly and they stop me from being lonely, the carers are lovely.
Both of my parents have been residents of Avon Lodge Care Home, they have been looked after brilliantly, all the staff are happy and friendly, this in turn keeps the vibes very positive for the residents. A range of different activities are organised for the residents such as bingo, hairdressing and pamper sessions, singing, knit and natter, coffee mornings etc. Frequently I see improvements being made, such as new carpet, painting, exterior walls being jet washed, garden maintenance etc. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Avon Lodge to anyone.
My experience with Avon Lodge Care Centre is that Mum joined the home in November 2023 and has been very welcomed by everybody. The management were so productive in getting in place her room and things in order to help with her needs having Alzheimer's disease. As for the carers and nurses, they have been so friendly and helpful. We as a family have nothing but praise for all the appreciated work they give Mum. I would happily recommend Avon Lodge.
Since Mum moved into Avon Lodge Care Centre (11/01/24) she has been so much happier and looks so healthy. This care home is a lovely and warm feeling place. The staff here are very attentive, helpful and involve themselves with the residents which I feel has helped Mum become so much happier than when she lived on her own. It's a credit to the management for how they run this place and the staff.
My mother is being well looked after by the carers in the home, they are always cheerful and helpful when I ask how my mother is. Also, the nurse on duty is always willing to discuss her medication. Management has also been very helpful when I have needed to contact them. Residents in the home that I have come into contact with always look happy and cared for.
To all at Avon Lodge Care Centre, a massive thank you to you all for all of your continued kindness and care. It is with appreciation and gratitude for the way you all deal with every day issues and in the way you all deal with expertise and sensitivity for issues in other areas which are not routine. Thank you so very much again, from my family and myself.
