View Full Details of DeerhurstI honestly thank my lucky stars that my dad and I found Deerhurst. The staff are incredible. You can tell that everyone is happy by the way they operate, kind, giving of time and incredibly caring. Dad is thriving on the company and the activities, not to mention the meals. I've also attended carer specific events to learn about how better to communicate with someone with dementia and to get support from others. It was really good. All in all, I feel blessed that Dad (and I) are in such a good care environment.
My Mother has been at Deerhurst for just over 17 months due to dementia and mobility issues and in that time she has been looked after so well by the amazing, caring staff. Whenever she has needed anything they have gone out of their way to ensure she has what she needs with kindness and understanding and she is always treated with respect and dignity and I know that she appreciates this as much as I do. The manager of Deerhurst is an understanding person who listens and will do all she can for the residents in her care. There are many activities available for the residents ranging from games, singing, dancing to therapy animals and outdoor activities. Whenever we visit we are greeted warmly and it feels as though you are in someone's home and part of the family. I can't speak highly enough of the amazing staff including the helpful admin and laundry staff and would recommend Deerhurst to those seeking a kind, happy, caring home for their loved one.
All members of staff greet and talk to my 'dad' with affection and care. They are welcoming and helpful to visitors too and never respond grumpily. Wonderful activities are organised almost daily with entertainers, food and drink tastings, pampering, games and physical tasks eg: dancing and boccia, and more. Residents are also taken on day trips regularly. Lastly, the food and drink, always available and plentiful, is fantastic.
My husband of 61 years, the family doctor and I realised he needed extra care which I couldn't give him. We were offered 2 weeks' respite so I looked around for a suitable home and when I drove into Deerhust car park I knew this was a welcoming home. The atmosphere inside was so happy and bright. The staff were amazing. We were offered a full-time placement so August 1st 2022 our lives changed especially for my husband. He was given the care and compassion he could ever want. The activities were amazing and there are lots. Canal barge trips, farms, etc. Fun days inside, tiny tots, games, even donkeys! therapy animals. Unfortunately his dementia has worsened and he's now confined to a wheelchai,r but the staff go out of their way to make. Sure he's included when possible and he can live his life with dignity. The amazing staff always make time to listen to you. The manager is always available to help if you are having a wobble! I would happily recommend Deerhust to anyone needing a kind and caring home for their loved one.
My mum who has severe dementia moved from a care home to Deerhurst about six months ago. The care home were doing their best but simply weren't set up to support mum's ever increasing needs. I quickly felt relieved that mum was now in the right place. Why? The Deerhurst team quickly got on top of her pain and ensured she avoided pressure sores developing. Over the following months I have seen the staff show mum so much genuine affection and compassion - she is the focus. Staff have been able to connect with mum on a different level. There is evidently a strong ethos of trying to include everyone where possible in activities - even if this presents challenges. Right across the organisation, including management and support staff, you see staff passionately wanting to support residents to have the best lives possible and having a laugh along the way! It's great to see and humbling. I could not recommend them enough!
My experience of the home and its staff has been very good. The care provided to my wife and me has been beyond what was expected. I found the staff particularly caring and focused on attention to detail. The care home manager is dedicated to her role.
My relative has been resident for about 18 months. In that period, her needs have changed, as her dementia has progressed. Deerhurst has gone above and beyond to get to know my sister as an individual and to meet her needs. She is relaxed and comfortable in her home. Deerhurst is full of joy. There are daily activities for her to get involved in - as much or as little, as she wants, she often prefers to watch. Whenever I arrive, she is interested and occupied. The regular social media photos make it easier to show her what's been going on between my visits, even though she can't recall what she's been doing..... Having fun!
All the staff at Deerhurst are wonderful. They provide such good care for my mum. They treat her with dignity and are always thoughtful of her needs. They communicate well with me (as primary contact). They do everything they can to enrich Mum's life and keep her happy. The dementia care is exceptional.
The dementia care is excellent; the staff are exceptionally caring and thoughtful, treating my mum with dignity. They treat them as an individual, understanding their specific likes, dislikes and needs.
Lovely staff and well set up to support individuals with more or less complicated needs. My relative has lived here for years now and they are well known, respected and cared for by a team that have an obvious positive regard for them and all other residents. Events and activities are regular and well planned. Deerhurst is welcoming of new people, relatives and other visitors whilst being safe and homely. The manager is excellent.
Where do I start? Deerhurst has become an extended family. Our journey started about a year ago when Mum spent the odd day or two a week at Deerhurst. The gentle, empathetic welcome to my Mum was resounding. It was a huge comfort to know she was in good hands. Days are up and down for Mum as a resident now but she still enjoys her music and swimming with giant whales! The Staff are knowledgeable, supportive, full of cheer and positivity. I do need to comment on the support Deerhurst gave me personally, it was a difficult time for my loved ones. Thank you.
I transfered my mum to Deerhurst so she could be nearer us as a family. I had also heard about Deerhurst's excellent reputation for caring for residents with Dementia. She moved in a couple of weeks ago and its already been lifechanging for us as a family. Firstly the atmosphere of the home is so warm and welcoming. My 11 year old hasn't visited Grandma for a couple of years because my mum's previous home was so far away. As soon as we pulled up in the driveway of Deerhurst he said 'This feels different'. When we got inside he said 'It feels like a real home'. He is absolutely right. I know that visiting my mum will feel like going to Grandma's house now, where they feel welcome & can feel at home too. The staff are just brilliant and so caring. Over the last few years I'd not seen as much of mum as I would like. When they came to collect her when she moved, they supported me through it too. My mum already looks so relaxed & like she's always been there. I know can pop in anytime too.
Great kind, knowledgeable, fun care team all working hard and well together to provide the happiest community for residents. They all go above and beyond what would be expected and were friendly and always responsive throughout my fathers 2 year stay, which saw him dancing, singing and laughing, boating and peaceful. This home is an inspiration and a model of good care right through to end of life.
My mum has been cared for at Deerhurst for several years now. The support, love and care shown to her and her family is outstanding. All staff are very experienced, compassionate and understanding of the residents varied and often complicated needs. The team go above and beyond to provide an exceptional high level of physical and emotional care. The range of social activities is immense and planned with thought to address individuals interests. As a nurse myself I have a working knowledge of nursing homes and this one out shines on every level. It is more than a care home. It is a safe haven, an actual home rather than an institution. It is so well managed and boosts a team to be proud of. I am so grateful my mum's care is entrusted to this fantastic team. Thank you.
Amazing care home, outstanding management and staff. Mum is treated with love, care and support whilst battling with last stage dementia, honestly felt like I had won the lottery when Mum was admitted to Deerhurst. Couldn't ask for a greater place to look after my wonderful Mum.
Our mother has been a resident in DH for 4 years with vascular dementia. The staff are the most caring , empathetic & patient group of individuals who create a home from home environment with medical care & kindness interwoven. We couldn't have wished for a happier place for mum & she thrives on contact & care , with an unrivalled array of trips, visits & unusual things to occupy her. Not one for beer, she took part in brewing a special beer, visiting the brewery & sampling the beer she helped to make & market! Fabulous experience. Charlie the donkey's visit was especially fun as it was our late father's name but she swears dad was more handsome! Two medical incidents - one requiring surgery-were handled compassionately & sensitively & we always feel DH has her best interests at heart. Management there are visible & keep us up to date with all her adventures but also her day to day living. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. A cruel disease sympathetically handled.
My Father has been at Deerhurst since May 2022 having been diagnosed with mixed dementia ( Alzheimer's and Vascular) The manager and staff were very interested in what my Dad likes/dislikes so that his early days were as seamless as they could be and he would settle into his new environment. Since then I can only describe Dads experience at Deerhurst as one of being comfortable and content. All the staff are wonderful , caring, intuitive, led by management who are very visible and always available. There are a huge and a wide variety of activities available, indoors outdoors and day trips so there is no time to be idle ! My overriding feeling when I enter the care home is one of a calm and relaxing environment that you are lucky to have your loved one in.
Brunelcare Deerhurst Care Home is absolutely wonderful. Prior to 2020 my husband was attending respite at Deerhurst but when Covid hit he was offered a room and on 20th July he moved in and has been there every sense. It meant I did not have physical contact with him for six months apart from waving through windows and door, which was heart breaking. But after that awful time he settled in and we started to be husband and wife again. The manager and her team don't only care for the residents but their families and are on hand anytime night or day. As time has past my husband has become more and more incapacitated, so much so that he can not walk, talk, eat or drink anymore. He is fed via a tube. There is a family group consisting of residents loved one and we meet every six weeks for a couple of hours sharing our feelings abd talking through or mental health with a member of staff who is so kind and helpful. I cannot speak more highly thank you.
My partner has been at Deerhurst since Dec 2024. His care has been first rate. The staff are all unfailingly helpful, cheerful and very caring. My partner has Alzheimers and is registered blind and the staff are always finding ways to stimulate his interest and keep him entertained. They have different activities going on all the time and often have outings for residents. The attention to diet and nutrition is also excellent, with well cooked, varied meals. If he doesn't eat a meal, they will always find something to tempt his appetite. No one wants to have their loved one in a care home, but if it must be so then I'm glad he got a place at Deerhurst.
My father has been at Deerhurst for just shy of 3 years. He has vascular dementia. Well, what a fantastic place it is; I sensed from my first look/ tour that this was a truly caring home with happiness at its core. The Deerhust staff are kind and caring. The manager is always available for a chat or to answer questions, as is everybody. And they listen to you too. There is a very wide variety of activities available to residents and they do various day trips for them too. They have all sorts of visitors - choirs, little people, therapy animals, singers, dancers - the list goes on - it's quite extraordinary! Without exception, the lovely staff I have met since Daddy has been there are knowledgeable, patient, dedicated and are focussed on ensuring all their residents live life as fully, happily and with as much dignity as they possibly can. They truly go above and beyond. I would highly recommend this fabulous place to anybody needing a kind, caring and happy home.
