View Full Details of Ponsandane Care HomeOh my god, can't recommend Ponsandane enough. From beginning to end the care and treatment we received as a whole family no words can explain. If anyone is looking for a home for their loved ones then look no further than Ponsandane as everyone is amazing. The rooms are homely the food is brilliant and the staff are amazing nothing was never too much trouble and always smiling and welcoming. Mum felt safe and happy which took a lot of stress off our shoulders during a traumatic time.
Delighted with the way my brother is treated. He seems happy/contented and is always treated with respect. Visiting only very infrequently due to the distance from our house to the care home. I can't answer all the questions. But what I have seen has been exemplary.
The welcome upon entering your home is always so warm and friendly- every member of staff is a delight- the care and patience and support is outstanding and heartfelt, nothing is too much trouble. Every member of staff, always says hello and smiles.
Ponsandane has an excellent atmosphere, a great nursing environment and positive and capable staff. We would highly recommend this to anyone needing nursing care in West Cornwall. My 102 year old dad was admitted to Ponsandane care home in March 2025 following a short hospital stay after breaking his hip in a fall. The hospital consultant recommended a nursing home as he decided not to get out of bed and did not want to recover. First impressions were good, the home well managed and spotlessly clean. The transfer from hospital was seamless and undertaken with professional confidence and kindness. Dad deteriorated in the first week. Nursing staff ensured that he was examined medically by a GP doctor who determined that end of life, palliative care was needed. All was managed in a sensitive and pragmatic way that enabled him to achieve the good death that he wanted. He was excellently cared for throughout his three week stay. Thanks to all the staff at Ponsandane.
All the staff are lovely and helpful. Food is really good most of the time.
When I first came it was frightening but with everyone being so nice it started to feel like home. There is always someone to talk to and it has turned out to be a blessing and I am not on my own. The staff are good as gold and I enjoy the company. The staff feel more like family and the residents are my friends.
The success of a care home rests largely with the care staff and here the team is generally excellent. It's an old building with its own challenges, but advantages too. Having once been a grand hotel the public rooms are high and light, with wide circulation spaces. The bedrooms in the old part share these advantages. The bathrooms don't reflect the price point - these are tired and need attention. The open door policy, with any time visiting, is most welcome. The only area of disappointment is the food. Residents should be offered a choice of excellent meals prepared on site. Mum's only consistent complaint is about mediocre meals that are not delivered hot. I have joined her for three meals, none of which I'd be happy paying for. In summary: Excellent - staff, space. Needs work - Bathrooms, food.
My Mother has been a resident at Ponsandane Care Home since March 2023. The staff are Kind, considerate and approachable. The food is of a high standard and personal preferences are catered for as far as is possible. There are three large communal rooms for residents to use in addition to a big sunny dining room. The garden provides areas for sitting out and holding barbeques and fetes in the summer. There are lots of activities and entertainment for residents should they wish to join in. Residents, relatives and visitors are always made to feel welcome. The Home has a high standard of cleanliness and is warm and inviting. Overall I am extremely satisfied with the care my Mum continues to receive at Ponsandane.
Friendly staff. Clean and well maintained rooms and facilities. All in all a good care home. The food prepared for the residents is well balanced and nutritious. The outside environs are well kept for the residents. Overall there are no complaints.
My dad is very happy at the home. The staff are all friendly, polite and helpful. The food is lovely and they take note of dads likes and dislikes. Most of the staff are really nice and it's lovely they have a good range of activities.
I am delighted with the attitude of all the staff at Ponsandane to my sister. Everybody has been very caring and undemanding. They have all been sensitive to her and haven't pressured her to do anything she is not inclined to or doesn't wish to do. Always happy to engage and have a chat when she wants to. The first room was a little small, but we were very thankful for it at such short notice. The room my sister is now in with new carpet is truly excellent. Many thanks to you all. P.S. Food and drink and activities not rated as my sister is not really experiencing these. Security is unobtrusive as this is an open-policy home. Value for money... yes all care is dear but this is a comfortable home in a stunning easy to reach location.
My sister-in-law resides at the home due to a stroke which has left her without the use of her right side and in a wheelchair and with dysphagia. The staff are so patient and kind with her. The home is warm and friendly. It is the best one we found for her.
Ponsandane Care Home is doing a first class job of looking after my father. I live a long way from the home but I'm kept up to date with any issues and concerns. Well done Ponsondane very being proactive in my father's care.
This is my first experience of residential care for my husband, I have found all the staff extremely helpful and understanding. The staff have taken time to get to know my husband and given him encouragement to eat again after spending time in hospital. The team have been very good reviewing his health and taking prompt action when necessary.
My mother continues to thrive at Ponsandane Care Home after 21 months as a resident. The staff are efficient, kind and friendly, the food is reported to be very good and the premises are always warm, clean and tidy. There are plenty of activities for any residents that wish to participate. The communal areas are spacious and light and, in the summer, there is an easily accessible garden.
My father has been a resident since June 2024. Firstly, to enter the home is very easy, no waiting around outside to be let in. I always feel very welcome, the atmosphere has a good vibe, plenty of staff around. I can freely roam, to go upstairs to his room or the various day rooms downstairs, to see him. There are a lot of activities organised which are advertised very clearly on a board as you enter, where the residents may or may not join at their choice. The quality of care I have seen so far is what one would expect and the residents deserve.
My mother has improved beyond recognition since she has been a resident at Ponsandane (just over a year). I last saw her at the end of April as, unlike the rest of the family, I do not live locally. The home is clean and the food is good (cooked on the premises). The staff are kind and caring and there are plenty of activities.
My 106 year old aunt has received her customary excellent care this month. Despite her considerable infirmities and the fact that she has been in effect immobile for five years, lying on her back, she is always in good spirits when I or my wife or younger relatives visit. She has retained her mental faculties, and tells us (long) stories about events which the care staff have shared with her. We attribute her condition to the quality of the care she receives. She likes the staff, and I believe they like her too.
Excellent overall care. Friendly staff. Very good food. Good standard of rooms. Old historic buildings mean limited facilities to an extent. Very conveniently situated near transport hubs and Penzance town centre. Well managed. Good consultation between management, senior care staff and relatives. Always a welcoming face when visiting.
The staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. They are kind and thoughtful. The grounds are very well looked after with mature planting. The rooms are a bit small but they are kept very clean and the linen is changed regularly.
